The Lakers and Jazz each eliminated their respective opponents tonight.

The Lakers defeated the Thunder 4-2 on a dramatic last-second tip in by Pau Gasol with .5 left in the game.

The Jazz knocked off the stumbling Nuggets, but perhaps the bigger news is the injury of Deron Williams (wrist). We’ll keep an eye on that.

This Sunday marks Game 1 of round 2, Lakers vs. Jazz. Tip off is at 12:30PST on ABC. Time to silence the Jazz… again!

What are your thoughts on this match up? The Lakers have knocked out the Jazz the last two playoff years; a legit rivalry in the West.

Regardless of the past, we here at TheLakersNation.com hope that Williams will be alright and ready to go come Sunday!

  • Game 1: 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Staples Center (ABC)
  • Game 2: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Staples Center (TNT)
  • Game 3: 5 p.m. Saturday in Utah (ABC)

The Jazz are undersized against our front court…and with Okur out, they have no chance in hell…Kirelinko is also out…and Williams looks like he might have hurt that wrist.

    • http://www.myspace.com/626bones Lakers 24 7

Plus, the Jazz haven’t won at the Staples Center since 2006. That’s 4 years, while the Lakers have beaten them in Utah at least once in each of the last 3 seasons.

    • LakerMarc

The Lakers have an easier match-up time against UtAH. They would have been worse off against Denver. Everything lining up quite nicely. Don’t want to underestimate the opponent but, Utah down in 5 (same as last year in Round 1).

  • samtlk9

Gonna be a semi though series but I say Lakers in 5
IMO I got LO to have an explosive series

    • WINLESS

Ring rhymes with _ing…..ahhhh Never Mind.

  • j.dizzle

Not even tripping, LO will be more of a factor vs Utah then Bynum…He usually plays well vs them cuz they dont have any atheltic players that match up with him on Utah, OKC did. Kobe-.Gotta ive some props to Fish, his defense wasnt all that vs OKC but dude shot almost 50% from three this for the series! LA’s defense is looking very good too when they try hard.

    • LakerMarc

So far they are testing out that fucking switch but, its been okay thus far (especially on the last 2 games). There were sketchy and sloppy moments in game 6 but I noticed that OKC wasnt able to capitalize. Go Lakers!!!!

PAU has to have been MVP for this Series. Every game he had was tough, well played, and most of all….CONSISTENT.

  • http://www.facebook.com/thejahjah Josh Herrington

A smal, sick part of me wants Deron Williams to be injured for this series so they lose their primary scorer. The rest of me just hopes for the Jazz to bring out the best in the Lakers and show the league how champions play. Undersized, undermanned, the Lakers should definatley take advantage.

Dont wish bad on another NBA player….KARMA…..it could come back on us. Except for Bron I still hope his arm dries, shrivels up and FALLS THE FUCK OFF!!!!!!!!

      • http://www.facebook.com/thejahjah Josh Herrington

Like I said, a small, sick part of me just wants him to be a non-factor. I take back the whole “I hope he is injured” statement because I don’t want any analyst to make excuses for the Jazz. Plus, he said he’s fine, so if you’re fine, then bring what ya’ got. Haha you just said to not wish bad on another player. “Except for Bron I still hope his arm dries, shrivels up and FALLS THE FUCK OFF!!!!!!!!”
What was that? HAHA go LAKERS!!

Someone needs to tell the Utah fan that we have home court. Not them. They can try and bring it, but they will be hurt.

  • Anthony

What are your guys thoughts on a series score? I’m thinking 4-1, possibly a sweep. Then again knowing this team there’s no telling what’s going to happen.

The Lakers have played this team far too much to be surprised by anything. Two years back we should have take them out 4-1, but only took it at 4-2 and then last year should have swept them while we only took them in game 5 (I was there!). I think this year they’ll handle their business.

    • http://www.facebook.com/thejahjah Josh Herrington

Same here. 4-1 if we can just steal a road game. We are gonna win 3 in a row and then lose one (if we go 4-1) and win game five. MAybe if they play to their potential they will sweep them but the Jazz don’t just roll over because we are defending champs. Expect a physical but short series.

    Bring on the Magic!
    .
Yeah, we seemed to dodge the 2 teams that were supposed to be trouble for us, the Mavs and the Nuggets. I think we can handle all the remaining teams, including the Spurs (which, I predicted would be the ‘most’ trouble in the West, due to their playoff experience).
    .
Anyway, I’m not so sure the Cavs are a ‘sure thing’ anymore. But even if they were, they are going to be pummeled by the Magic. That will prep them just fine for the Finals (meaning: wear them out).
    .
Hmmm … a part of me wants to see the Celtics in the Finals, just so we can have another victory over them. But …. prob. won’t happen.
    .
Am I jumping the gun here?

  • Kelly Fitzpatrick

Williams hurt his shoulder, not his wrist–check the video–he was just holding his wrist to keep his shoulder from moving. Didn’t look that bad though.

    Even with a healthy Williams–Lakers in 5

  • JazzHands

D-Will is going to tear the Lakers apart. Jazz in 5.

WoW, Utah aiynt nuthin can we bring tha brooms?

  • chot

why does the lakers only have a day to rest and the rest had atleast 3 days?

  • vlade4kobe8

lets not everyone get too excited about the series. I know the Lakers should beat them easily but remember we said the same thing about Houston last year and we went 7 games and same about the Thunder and it went 6 So lets just cheer them on because this series could get ugly, I don’t think they will lose but they might have to play games that are not needed to finish the series. Go Lakers!!!!!!!

  • http://thetruthrenaissance.wordpress.com/ BE_A_LakerFan

    Lakers in 5. Lake Show!
