Lakers will play fewest back-to-back games this season

They finally caught a break. They will need all the rest they can get.

L.A. Times: Guess which of the 30 NBA teams will play the fewest sets of back-to-back games this season?  Yep, the Lakers. According to number-crunching BasketballProspectus.com, the Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks each got stuck with 23 back-to-backs in 2010-11, topping the dreaded B2B list. It’s the second straight season the Bulls have led the NBA in this grind-it-out category. Meanwhile, the Lakers will play the fewest, with 15 sets of back-to-backs.

    • http://www.twitter.com/TLN24 Marwan Marzina

I got the article from L.A. Times. They posted it on the 28th, and it happens that I did too, which means I’m not late for posting the story up from L.A. Times, its L.A. Times’ fault for posting it 2 weeks late.
Please stop criticizing this blog for being late. We are doing our best, and I’ve actually slightly cut back sleeping hours just to try and find news to post and keep you guys informed, you can’t expect us to find the article the first minute its posted up. The point is that you guys get the message of the article.

      • ceballos-neverforget

Agreed. These guys take the time to bring a quality LA fan blogsite (one that R T even reads) For god sakes, its the offseason after the prime of free agency…I wouldn’t be updating everyday either. So either stop criticizing this site, or nut up and make one yourself, see if you can do any better. Everyone’s a critic. Not bad, Marwan and others, not bad at all. Keep up the good work.

        • R T

a matter of fact I do have my own blog but no im not telling you the site. I dont want to invite unnecessary criticism from people who dont have a understanding knowledge on the topics (im not callin you out, but i would bet that only a handful of people on this site are involved in my field of business).

      • R T

Doesn’t matter when the L.A. Times posted it, the fact still remains that this site about Laker news should be up to date when information comes out. Its not hard to set up a Google alert for laker news.
Just reposting articles posted on L.A. Times, ESPN, or Yahoo puts you in just above those fans that come around during playoff time. A real fan reads as many articles even mentioning the Lakers, and don’t act like it takes more then 2 mins to post a new article on this site. I have my own blog, admiringly I have about half the number of viewers given the topic is more business rather then recreational , but I post articles and commentary within the first 12 hours of the news breaking.

      • laughoutloud

stop jerkin off Marwan, get ahead of the game …………………. lol

        • lilkobe24

stfu rt.. who gives a shit if its late. and stfu lol, grow up little boy. and rt about the shit about having your own site and dont want to share it. thats just stupid.

  • stucktrader

If the bench HOLDS or even STRETCH leads with the starters resting…

It really won’t matter. It’s all about the bench resting the starters…

LA’s bench is extremely versatile – but Blake/Barnes/Theo will hopefully win on D… as they will have to learn the triangle quickly.

  • http://57.amklac laffs atu

without gasoft or shaq the kobester has HOW Many rings?………..keepin it real.

    • PRLaker

without pipen jordan has cero, without kobe and d wade shaq has cero and so on, kobe is the man on the team unlike lebron who is a guest in d wade’s team, love him hate him, kobe is anong the greatest to ever play the game period

Likeable? Hmm. I don’t hear that he’s likeable. An majority See lebra as rat like..he always loses, why root for him. That is all 100% fact. I’m keeping it real !

  • laughoutloud

Dont get me wrong. Lebron is a heck of a player. Almost averages a triple double every game! Not many players can do that. But…… his attitude is esoteric. He doesnt repsect the players or respect the history of the game. Im talking about how he didnt shake the Magic Players hands after defeat. I dont know if its because of his age, is he still too young? But when one compares kobe to lebron, you can use respect as a key difference between one another. Kobe respects the history of the game. He understand the significance of MSG when he plays there. Not many players know/comprehend the knowledge kobe has. Just my opinion …… enough said

    • PRLaker

i will never forget kobe shaking the hands of the celtics players in 08, and going to the press conference afterwards, that’s what a pro does,

  • hoop247

screw yahoo sports man. they ranked kobe #2 n wade 1. wtf. thats stupid piece of a crack smokin son of a transves. eff them all. Kobe back to back still don’t earn any respect from these blinded media. F the heat n the media. How u gonna rank kobe #2. u gotta smoke crack in order to be able to do that. Let me say it loud n clear: KOBE BRYANT IS THE #1 PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE, ya heard. stupid shiet.

  • Robert.

Who cares what the media thinks about the Lakers anymore. They have pretty much been ignored in the 2nd Championship win summer, in favor of the 3-headed cream puffs.
    .
But that’s ok, they won’t be able to ignore the Lakers when they win another Championship. I suspect the media will be building up the heat all year long. I almost hope they play the heat in the Finals, but Kobe would say ‘It don’t matter who we play’.
    .
And, the NBA is giving the Champs props by this scheduling. They respect them, and it makes complete sense because 1) The Lakers have been GOLD for the NBA – generating a lot of revenue, 2) Playing in 3 consecutive Finals is tough. And there will be a few more Finals appearances, which is even tougher.

    • PRLaker

the media can go to hell, i watch as many lakers games as i can, and exept for boston there are lakers cheers everywhere unlike other teams, the lakers are beloved everywhere, don’t believe me, just watch the lakers games and see for your self, even in places like san antonio and phoenix you can hear a big croud of lakers fans so, FUCK THE MEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Robert.

I can’t wait for Blake/Barnes (& Ron-Ron) to bust everyone’s chops (esp. the heat) this upcoming year.
    .
And look out for LO. He has to play tough in the FIBA games (Euro basket is pretty rough). That’s going to give him a whole new perspective for the coming year. He’s had to adjust his play around paint clogged foul-happy players to slash to the basket. It will help him figure out how to do that better in the upcoming year without generating a charge (like he has in many games last year).
    .
Lakers are going to be beasts (esp. in the playoffs).

  • http://57.amklac laffs atu

maybe bryant will show some effort on defense, lebronze blocks about 5 shots a game….too bad lebronze doesn`t have gasoft to carry his ass like the mamamaba.

    • DRE1984LA

too bad lebron had to run to another man’s team like a coward.
Too bad you are a faggot and a racist
Just get this through your head KOBE DOES NOT WANT YOU FAGGOT AND NEITHER DOES LEBRON
      YOU ARE A FAGGOT

    • 242LakerFan

Yeah, blocks 5 shots a game…if by “5″ you mean “0.9″, then yes, you’re exactly right.
Take care of that stutter. No one likes girls who stutter.

  • Robert.

Kobe will be able to concentrate on his ‘esoteric’ game, rather than worry about details like lock down defense, slashing to the basket, etc.
    .
He will leave the hard defense to his attack dogs, who are tough, mean, and athletic. They will stop the other teams (esp. heat) cold, and so Kobe will be able to shine like always with his spectacular plays.
    .
It will be a stellar season for the Lakers.

    • laughoutloud

So your gonna make fun of my choice of words now , esoteric from a previous post.

  • HeatnNation

It will be a decent season, I think. But, without winning a ring though.

    • Jake Gasol

I dunno HeatnNation… I just don’t see the Celtics beating us in the inevitable rematch… #17 for the Lakers

      • HeatnNation

Maybe not the celtics because I don’t think they are getting to the finals this year. I am talking heat baby the molesting stone inside your right shoe

      • 242LakerFan

Okay, I know people are saying some mean stuff about the Heat, but molesting people’s shoes? That’s a bit of a low blow, isn’t it?

    • Robert.

I agree. It will be a decent season for the heat. AND, the ‘heat won’t win a ring, though’.
      .
The heat will be fun to watch, but the heat will be watching the Lakers win another Championship. The heat can take notes, and maybe after Kobe retires, they will have learned what it takes to be a Champion.

  • HeatnNation

You all talkin with your hearts and I respect that but you know “something special and immense like a giant snow ball is forming and coming unstoppably toward you and that thing is called the heat”

    • laughoutloud

U think they will get past the celtics? No man, Bosh struggles against Shaq and Garnett. Lebron struggles against Pierce, so does Wade. They have no big man to handle Both Oneals. It will be celtics lakers rematch!

    • Robert.

Well, if we really want to get the metaphors correct — when I last checked ‘heat’ tends to melt snowballs. So, the snowball will turn into a puddle of water before it even begins to start rolling.
      .
      AND …
      .
that puddle of water will just be devoured in entirety by the “Lake” …

    • Showtime4eva

Lol! You do realize this is a lakers site right? Lmao! Your heat is just hot air. Remember my words when it’s all over .your already finished. And you know it. Learn your history.. Your talkin trash to the greatest franchise with the greatest player!!! Learn to respect if not we’ll teach you. GO LAKERS!!

  • HeatnNation

Ok I wouldn’t say that the lakers isn’t a great team because I am not a irrational fan but I seen what dwade can do night in and night out with almost nothing as teammates. I am not talking LBJ here I am talking wade if any doubt ask Kobe about dwade and who was the leading score in the Olympic team coming off the bench by the way. Now give me lbj and cb next to him he will be your nightmare, anybodies nightmare. Guys this ain’t about the lakers it is about the truth something that happen once in a sun’s life. Feel fortunate to be your time and you could witness it… My bad it happens in miami

    • Showtime4eva

A lot of talk for someones team that has done nothing yet.. Make sure you stay in touch.remember, we know championships!! What do you know about that?like I said stay in touch watch an you’ll learn your first lesson. Talk is cheap..

    • Robert.

Truly, there is no doubt that DWade & LeBron are 2 great players, maybe among the greatest after all said and done. However there are several issues which will come out in a team situation.
      .
      1) They are not necessarily complementary players: they have similar playing styles: both rely on ‘slashing’ as their primary mode of scoring. DWade has an ok mid-range, and not much of a 3-point presence. LBJ has virtually no mid-range, but does have 3-point capability. They perform much of their scoring (for their team) by drawing defenders to them as they are slashing, and when that happens, they pass it out to peripheral shooters (3 point, etc.) if the lane is blocked. DWade’s 2006 team had pretty good 3 point shooters at the time, least of all Jason Kapono (won a 3 point shootout in All-Star, etc.), and Damon Jones, who had a good 3 point year. DWade also had Shaq that year, who fit in well with their array of 3 point shooters. That was the ideal team for DWade.

      2) Neither DWade nor LBJ have a great post-up game. Yes CB has a great post up game, so that could make up for their deficiencies. We will see.

      3) Neither DWade nor LBJ have great foot work. Again, they are slashers. DWade in particular is ‘quick’ AND ‘speedy’, and relies on his speed to sprint to the basket. LBJ is a ‘football player’ trapped in the NBA. No finesse, nor ‘quickness’ (linebacker, not wide receiver, ok?). His speed is primarily in fast break, and many of his baskets come when he charges down the lane (who wants to be in the way when he’s coming?? – truly a formidable player). But once the play goes 1/2 court, neither are even close to the level of Kobe. It’s ok, because nobody can be that great, but that is an important aspect of the game that is ‘very difficult’ to acquire, if one doesn’t already have the skill. That aspect of their game will be missing (yes, CB can probably provide some of that).
      .
      4) With the type of players that DWade and LBJ are, something has to be sacrificed: pick one: scoring, or assists. Both are high scorers, and relatively high in assists. They will not BOTH be able to do both with each other there. And, if they just pass to each other all the time, that won’t work all the time either. Perhaps one day LBJ will score a lot, another day DWade. There goes either of their chances at a scoring title (unless one sacrifices all year long).
      .
      5) Defense: Defense WINS Championships, PERIOD. DWade’s contribution to defense is steals. He is one of the best stealers, ‘ever’. LBJ is one of the most exciting ‘swatters’. But neither tend to make All-D (not sure about LBJ, but that is not part of his main skill set – he is primarily offense). So, during the regular season, the heat will do well (defense tends to be ‘less’ important, because there are so many games played during the year, and it has to be ‘paced’, because it takes a LOT more energy to play good defense). But during the playoffs, they could come up short — EASILY.
      .
      6) Basketball is not only a team sport, but a game of balances. It is true that the heat are a stacked team, but they have to have a ‘balance of skills’. The Lakers ALREADY had that this year (2010-2011), and now they have closed up virtually every hole that was present in that already great team. They have the BEST all around team this year, and maybe in Laker history (or so says Dr. Jerry Buss – but I can’t help but agree with him!).
      .
In summary, I agree that the heat will be one of the most exciting teams to watch this year – maybe even reminds some of us of the Showtime Lakers. But – with the “Kobe/Pau” Lakers in town, it’s going to be hard to dethrone the Champs.

    • PRLaker

dwade may had been your leading scorer but it was kobe who saved the olimpic team’s ass against spain dude

  • http://57.amklac laffs atu

if kobe retired the lakers would at least be watchable, unless of course the heat are playing.

    • Showtime4eva

Yeah if Kobe retired, finally your shitty little team would have a chance. But last I heard, he’s still playing. Might well start designing our new ring your team doesn’t have snowballs chance in hell

  • HeatnNation

I’ll see you all in chritsmas

    • Showtime4eva

Who the fuck cares about one game on Christmas we play in June you better worry about that.

      • HeatnNation

Ok I will. I apologize. I will go back to burying my head on LeWadeBosh’s nuts now.

    • PRLaker

yeah see in christmas, cause the lakers will be playing in june while the heat choke against the celtics or the magic or the bulls

  • willmo

Cavs Fans of 2009-10=Heat fans of 2010-11
All hype and no hardware. The Lakers and their fans don’t care about Christmas cause they don’t give you a ring in the winter, just ask Lebron last yr.
The Celtics will beat the Heat cause if healthy they don’t have an answer for Rondo and the Celtics will clog the middle and dare (Lebron 32% career 3 ball shooter) and Wade (28% career 3 ball shooter) to beat em from the outside and that ain’t their game. And the whole talk that Bosh is all of a sudden a Tim Duncan monster is rather laughable, he gets his ass smacked by Bynum and Pau all the time. Wade is the only one with heart on that team.

  • HeatnNation

There is a little taste of what is coming for you.

take that site and shove it up your ass!

    • Showtime4eva

Piss on your unproven choke artist. We got Kobe remember??? The greatest player ever!! Your little lechoke bull shit suppose to scare us??? Lmao at you!!! Go Lakers!!!

      • laughoutloud

We’ll see what happens……… shit happens. On paper, Heat have a great team , you have to admit. The edge the lakers have are our big men. But Lakers team is stacked as well.

        • Showtime4eva

Knowing lebras track record. This heat team does not rate high on my concern list. We got teams in the west I’m more concerned about, and in the east I’d say the bulls or celtics would be a more threat than the heat. I just don’t sweat the heat.until they do something.they’re just pretenders not contenders. GO LAKERS!!!

    • 242LakerFan

WOW!! Video proof that Spoelstra can’t guard LeBron! Shocking!!

  • HeatnNation

I understand that the lakers are all about championships, so the Christmas’ game must mean nothing for all of you even if the lakers loose. Wow, I am gonna have to wait until June to be able to hear your apologies. That is a very long time. I think we should make this more exciting. What about if we beat the lakers by 30 or 40 on Christmas, I think that should be more than enough for you to start having some doubts for how unbeatable you are and start showing some love for the heat…maybe just a little bit. I think this is a very reasonable request.

    • 242LakerFan

I live in The Bahamas, so I love the heat. I just don’t like the Heat.
But I will apologize in advance. I am really really sorry, but your Heat will NOT win the 2010-11 NBA Championship. No hard feelings, okay, HeathenNation?

    • 242LakerFan

BTW, there’s only one “o” n “lose”. You really should get familiar with the word before June. Your Heat are going to be reading it a lot in the Herald and the Sun Sentinel.
“How could the Three um-Egos lose like that?”

      • HeatnNation

Dude, you live in Bahamas. Why are you even a lakers’ fa?. It makes more sense for you to be a heat fan at least we are closer to the caribean.

        • whoa

Mychal Thompson, Brian Cook, Rick Fox

  • http://Lakernation Robert

The management has prepared for a team that is very competive and is a champion. Will the desire and thirst to repeat or three peet be at a high level? The next question is injuries are the Lakers equiped to handle key injuries to their big men if something happens to Gasol. Remember the Lakers had that problem at different peroids of last season. Could the Lakers rebound from this rash of injuried players and how much more do you place on Kobe Bryant to carry the team in their absence. Phil should be distrubting the responsilibities on scoring to others and is Theo Ratliff enough to keep the Lakers competitive. These four players are coming to training camp is nothing more than two big bodies filling the void. Can Caracter be an effective backup center and power forward or do the Lakers need to rethink and make some quality additions. The Lakers could have used Brad Miller.
