Hopefully, he can have it skipped. No reason for him to play an exhibition game that doesn’t mean anything. Sound-off in the comments and tell us what you think!

ESPN: The Los Angeles Lakers are hoping that Kobe Bryant gets clearance from the league to miss Sunday’s All-Star Game in New Orleans after announcing Thursday that Bryant has a torn ligament in his right pinkie.

But Bryant doesn’t yet have that clearance — and may not get it.

A league official confirmed Thursday night that the NBA is not looking for potential replacements to fill Bryant’s spot on the Western Conference squad. That’s because the league office still expects Bryant to start and play for the West, even if it’s only for a brief cameo, after he played for the Lakers all the way through to their final game before the All-Star break Wednesday in Minnesota.

Bryant scored 29 points in 35 minutes in Wednesday’s 117-92 win at Minnesota. Bryant sat out the fourth quarter and had the finger X-rayed after the game.

The Lakers, according to team sources, are trying to convince the league that Bryant should be excused after a visit Thursday to hand specialist Dr. Steven Shin revealed a ligament tear. Bryant is expected to make that plea personally once he arrives in New Orleans on Friday after Shin recommend that Bryant undergo surgery that would likely sideline him for six weeks.

it wouldnt be an all star game if kobe isnt playing…

  • gugy

Well Kobe can always play 10 minutes and seat the rest of it.
That would be the second best thing if he can’t skip the game altogether.

  • Pourky

The only reason I want Kobe to play and not skip the All-Star game:

    1. Has been an active All-Star Player since his 2nd year in the NBA
    2. Be able to vote Kobe for ’08 MVP All-Star

The more records Kobe does, the better to show he is the best player in the history of the game!! =)

    The NBA loves the Lakers.

  • KONG!

I don’t think Kobe should participate in the All-Star game. Kobe is so competitive that he would forget about his injured finger during the game and take over to win the All-Star MVP, possibly injuring himself in the process.

David Stern hates the Lakers and Kobe in particular, so he’ll try to pit his lil pet project (LeBron) on Kobe knowing that Kobe won’t be able to defend him.

  • lakerschamps08

the nba is stupid man… kobe should not play and then get surgery after we hopefully beat the suns….

Kobe needs the rest. This man has pour his heart out for the NBA,the least can do is give him a day off.Ratings are more important,I guess.Damn that David Stern!

  • LakersFirst

Of course the NBA wants Kobe Bryant to play in the NBA. He’s one of the MAIN draws for the all-star game. Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are arguable the most players on the planet (put Yao up there too). The NBA does not want either of these guys to not play.

Why would Stern hate kobe and the lakers? They bring the NBA a fortune.

Kobe’s little Eagle Rock incident cost himself, David Stern, and the NBA a bulk amount of sponsorships, commercial deals, and merchandise sales. It is only obvious that Kobe was once the NBA’s golden child, cherished especially by ratings-hungry David “My-Wrath-Can-Be” Stern. Once Kobe was tainted with the “rapist” persona, he fell out of favor with the commissioner. Stern then decided to focus his attention on his shining new star; LeBron James.

I like LBJ and his game but Stern and his kiss-as.s commentators glorify him like he’s some sort of man-god. We fans must save LBJ from Stern’s clutches before it’s too late.
