Explains why Mihm was trying so hard last night. His 2-10 shooting, really must have tick Mitch and Co. Good luck, Mihm.

Commercial Appeal: The Grizzlies have traded a conditional second-round pick in 2013 to the Los Angeles Lakers for Chris Mihm and cash considerations, an NBA source confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

The deal is expected to be announced this evening or tomorrow morning.

Mihm’s $2.5 contract expires after this season.

  • Orangezack

Wow, I saw Mihm’s final game as a Laker… well.. anyways

  • mihms a baller

    1st. latuh mihm

  • Zj

I dont like this trade that much at all. I wanted Mihm to be in a package trade. I feel really sorry for Chris though, watching him play after those surgeries just looked awkward, not how he used to play. And he did play pretty decent basketball before his injury fiasco(s).
Could have used him for a better trade opp, but i think this is just for clearing money up for possibly a big move.

  • lyk13

1 more player to dress…wait, WE SEEING DACOS AGAIN!!!

  • zako

i dont get this trade…at least we can see MBENGA play!

  • Mitch4Pres

  • lafanfromindiana

I don’t understand this. I know that he didn’t play very good last night and didn’t do very much for us these past few seasons but our starting center can be done for the year. If we see D.Howard in the Finals, we could have used Mihm’s 6 fouls. Look at how many guards we have! Why not trade some of them!

  • king.manu

wow…i dont get that trade but okay, lets see if dj picks it up

i allways loved mihm, he is a great guy, allways wanted to be a lakers. i wish him the best!!

  • Ajay Virk

Damn DJ got his ass traded after that fight, lol I thought Kobe only had those powers lol jk

  • VL

It’s salary cap relief. Lakers may pick up a player on the cheap.

  • mr.laker19

    Well I guess why not!

  • PauKobeBynumOdomDynasty

I really don’t see how a SRCOND ROUND pick in 2013 is gonna help us…i really liked mihm and its sad to see him go especially after his fight with DJ….but its true, the first season he played with us was very good, but since the surgery its just been off for him.

I bet this is Part 1 of Kupchack’s owing back to the Grizzlies.

  • DameC24

See ya Mihm, DJ will start to play more.

  • louis

LOL a 2nd round pick in 2013…that’s how valuable that trash MIHM was… hahaha let’s go CONGO-MAN

  • 323 TOWN

    I got one word… MBENGA!!
There’s no doubt that KOBE, ARIZA, AND L_O are coming back next season!! GO LAKERS!!

  • Sako

    What are cash considerations?

  • http://www.keyshop.org Makaveli3

I don’t really like this trade. I wish Chris Mihm luck. I know he could get better, but I guess they needed cap space.

  • Fireworld

Memphis is the official trash dump of the LA Lakers..

Hey, you never know. Just because a player is picked in the second round doesn’t mean they won’t be good in the NBA. It’s all about commitment and devotion to working your way to the top. Anybody can be an All-Star in the NBA, they just have to work for it.

It’s sad to see Mihm go, but he was better this way.

…as soon as I saw “MIHM TRADED TO GRIZZLIES” I thought we tricked the Grizzlies again into giving us Rudy Gay or OJ Mayo or something lol

  • gugy

    Vlad is gone
    Mihm is gone

Now the Lakers to become a dynasty just Luke must go.
Great job Mitch unloading the garbage so quickly.

  • xUSCx

    1. Taking out the trash
    2. More time for Dacos
    3. Salary Cap/Luxury Tax Relief
    4. Throw in Conditional 2nd Rounder (What more could we have expected for a guy who plays 2 mins on 2 bad ankles that hasn’t done anything for us in years?)
    5. Roster down to 14, which means we have a spot left open to sign a veteran big for the playoffs (PJ Brown? Robert Horry? – Make it happen Mitch!)

Good riddance Mihm – you were a 2.5 million bench warmer and prob Vitti’s bff

  • Eidraq

so we gave chris mihm and cash for a 2013 second round pick?
never was a big fan of mihm but doesnt this seem a little weird bcuz if we’re trying to get more cash in the future, why are we giving some right now? perhaps im just confused and need an explaination…hopefully someone can do that for me

  • LakersFirst

This trade could also be designed to clear roster space for a run into the playoffs. The Lakers now have 14 players with one open spot remaining. Could there be a free agent the Lakers are looking to sign?

  • Eidraq

[Comment ID #62324 Will Be Quoted Here]

i hope thats the case..but my question is who??
i dont see anyone right in the fa market that we can pick up..reggie??? hahah doubt it

  • Dave

Its either a salary cap move (meaning LO and Ariza are more secure) and/or its to make some space for a possible free agent signing. We’ll find out if its the latter by Thursday.

This has got to be the Lakers setting themselves for another big man. The Lakers need size and just like Phil said the Lakers are not just going to stand by and not do anything this year. They cannot just wait and see what happens with Bynum. Also, the Lakers dont need cap relief like other teams. They make plenty of money. This has got to do with something else. As good as Mitch’s moves have been up to this point I just can’t believe that they are going to rely on Mbenga stepping in doing something significant while Bynum comes back.

  • DonJericho

I’ll say it… extra roster spot… lakers sign Alonzo Mourning.. if it comes to fruition.. I said it….

  • 323 TOWN

    323 town,

that was funny. I almost ran to ESPN! lol…

maybe dj can start a fight with Luke so he can get traded.

  • showtimelakes

I love this trade……Next in line Luke Walton. Dj will pick up nicely.

[Comment ID #62319 Will Be Quoted Here]

LOL. I was thinking the same thing, except I thought we got Marc Gasol back or something.

That tricky Kupchak. Fool them once, shame on you. lol

  • David

Let me clear things up. The trading of mihm doesn’t clear any salary cap space to sign odom and ariza because this was the final year of his contract. This move was most likely made to open up a roster spot to sign another big man, perhaps alonzo mourning???

  • king.manu

horry or alonzo. not another guard…..

  • Eidraq

[Comment ID #62338 Will Be Quoted Here]

    that makes more sense

  • Johnny R

    trade for hilton armstrong

  • jason

I hope this trade was to clear a roster spot otherwise it was just stupid. DJ is horrible with a capital HORRIBLE. They better sign some more length to fill that spot or this was really a bad idea. Mihm might not be what he used to be, but he still gives us some length with at least a decent basketball IQ to go with it. DJ has none, hes just big and that doesnt get u very far in this league.

  • Lakers 24 7

[Comment ID #62338 Will Be Quoted Here]

Alonzo retired…but I’m sure he would gladly play for the Lakers if a ring is to be reached. I hope we sign Alonzo or some other big. I just hope the Lakers don’t sign a guard, a Euro, or a white dude…no offense to anyone, but we need some veteran toughness, and Alonzo can be that guy.

  • Retrospect

[Comment ID #62318 Will Be Quoted Here]

    LOL. COOL!

Damn, good luck Mihm, you were once the Lakers’ starting center, sorry to see you go. But you’ll probably get more minutes there and we need h4lp. And basketball’s a business.

Yay for more minutes for Mbenga ahaha. And another space :o

  • domz

This move gives way for a roster spot. Perhaps, big shot rob, starbury(if waived), cheik samb or anyone who Mitch likes.

  • hundreds

It was done to avoid the luxury tax. S2 mill + S2 mill for Chris Mihm definitely not worth it. Second, maybe this means that Bynum does look pretty good, well enough for them to be really confident that he can be back playing at a high level, if not soon then soon enough. Lastly, the draft pick is conditional. Meaning the Lakers are not probably gonna even get it. So Mihm was basically traded for salary purposes.

  • kwame4mvp

y do we need a draft pick all the way in 2013?

  • hundreds

We probably won’t even get that draft pick so it doesn’t matter. It’s CONDITIONAL. Meaning it’ll most likely still belong to Memphis.

  • rd3levelpls

Hilton armstong is trash r u serious? I would rather hav Sean Marks’ old unathletic trashy self than hilton armstrong! Hilton is one of the softest playrs n the league! arent we trying to get more physical? You touch that dude and he goes flying

Another big man…how about…um..SHAQ?…..HOPE SO!!! Hope this is the plan and reason why for the trade!!! 2down, 1 more to go:

    2. Mihm

  • freakincrod

    Poor Mihm :'(

  • Sean All Ivy

Zero chance we get Shaq. That would condemn us to mediocrity in a few seasons because with Shaq’s salary on our books next year there is almost no chance we can resign Farmar, L.O., or Ariza. I think we are a MUCH better team with those players than Shaq.

We all know that if we got Shaq, We(the city of LA) will NEVER hear the end of it. Kobe HAS TO win without Shaq then maybe he can come back to LA.

  • Big Phil

Come on Mitch…your not done yet…next should be Fluke. Move Ariza to starting SF, Shannon Brown as backup SF…good enough to rid Flukee

Mihm was a true professional and a good guy. Hope he gets PT in Memphis.

  • ATLakers

“Mihm’s $2.5 contract expires after this season.”

Lol, so Mihm’s contract is only worth $2.50? I should have traded for him, I could use someone to do the chores here.

Luke is playing well. He’s getting playing time. Phil likes him. Why trade him?

  • ricky

Man I really don’t get this trade other than the fact that it was for salary cap reasons. We are still light in the front court with Bynum still out so I’m going to assume the Lakers are gonna pick up a center on the cheap. I was hoping that if they made this trade, we could have at least shipped out Sun Yue, I really don’t like him that much and he doesn’t look like he will pan out to be anything more than a bench warmer in the NBA. Lately Mitch has been making solid moves, so I’m hoping he’s got something good up his sleeve besides just shedding salary but to also make us even stronger. He always pulls some unexpected shit.

  • jc

    The Mailman anyone?

  • OClakers

  • green_apple

    Why trade mihm?
mihm was there to take off minutes from gasol(atleast give pau a breather), cause bynum is gone.
mihm is/was a better center than mbenga. his contract was expiring, why didn’t the lakers just let it expire and use him as a backup in case of anymore injury or absence of bynum.
    i don’t get this trade.

  • Lakers50Years

I don’t think any of you people who want Luke traded know zhit, he is the glue to this teams triangle stability and is playing very well and smart basketball. Luke, is not going anywhere because the Lakers are too smart to make a dumb move-that makes no sense at this time. So shut your pie hole and suck it up, Luke is not going anywhere and is here to stay for now.

  • LakersBoy24

Mihm was a cool player, don’t mind him on my squad, good luck to him, we need odom, ariza, farmar and sasha more than him right now. Mihm was aite though and you know it, DJ got his ass traded but w/e, good luck to mihm

  • patrick bateman

Maybe the deal was for A Shaq signing?

Suns buyout or waive Shaq because he cant run with them.
    Shaq agrees. Signs with LA

now, Kobe and Shaq part 2?

    We’ll see what happens

Maybe Mitch liked what he saw During All star Weekend.

  • LakersBoy24

You rid Luke the ball movement is gone, LUKE IS NEEDED, ya’ll don’t like him but its a fact, go LUKE!!!!!

  • 24kar33m24

luke is not that bad…the lakers are 16-0 when luke plays 19+ minutes

  • CG

Mitch is finally taking out the trash and stacking the money.
Mihm was a good player before his injury. After his surgery, he never really fully recovered. Oh well more minutes for Dj

  • bassti

We need another centre. That’s for shure. Never trust the DJ. So let’s take Chris Kaman and we’ll be just fine ;)

  • gj

Shaq will probably retire after this year. I wouldn’t be surprise to see a Hollywood ending in the works. One more ring for Kobe and Shaq would make a great story and Shaq would probably rather retire his jersey as a Laker than a Suns. That’s just my opinion but if the Lakers want to get a big, the Diesel is still a force to be reckoned with. Some might say this would be bad chemistry but seeing what happened during the All Star Weekend, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this happen for Laker fans. Love it or hate it I suppose. We’ll miss you Mihm.

  • T-Dub

They are finally starting to see the light! Get rid of the sorry white boys! Two down…( Vlad, Mihm)…two to go( Zasha, Puke). Way to go Mitch, you’re finally starting to listen to me!

This is just a move to clear up a lil more cap space for this offseason. The Lakers are trying everything they can to make sure they can sign Kobe, Ariza and possibly Lamar as well. Its a business and you cant keep everyone. Players come and go. Lakers werent using him and want to give them the best chances to sign their more important players. Mitch is finally showing he learned from the best Jerry West. Dump the salaries and players that arent as important. Turiaf, Vlad and Mihm are decent players but in order to keep core players that are really responsible for your succeess like Kobe, Pau, Bynum, Lamar, and Ariza, you have to clear space and give up on “deep” bench. Your rotation should only really consist of 8 the final 9-15 players just interchange every year. Thats why they say as fans you cant fall in love with every player and accept that they may be gone at any time. Its a business

  • Michael_23

Mihm never took advantage of the time he had. Josh Powell will scrap whether he plays 2 mins or 20 mins. Mihm never seemed to get back on track.

Nice way of dumping salaries this year Mitch. You get my vote for executive of the year!

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #62403 Will Be Quoted Here]

What are you talking about!! They traded VladRad for another white boy in Adam Morrison.

I think it’s been established, with your lack of faith in the team, you are NOT a Laker fan.

  • sketch

see what happens when you try to pick a fight with Mbenga?

  • Suuede!

This was all about the cash…and he was really not producing the WAY the Staff wanted him to they gave him enough time and were really patient with Mihm he was on the squad for 5yrs! Numerous amount of times Mihm would get dunked on or not challenge a shot …Mbenga will happily give you a foul or shot block against anyone. And for all of these ppl who think the Lakers should trade Luke don’t know sh&t about Basketball…!

  • 187 ON BOSTON

  • xtro

can we sign a free agent now that there is space in the roster?

  • RambleOn33

DJ Mbenga is an alien from the future who is teleporting in and out of our dimension at will and only Chris Mihm had the guts to stand up and do something about it!
And because of that, they had to ship him out.
Sad really, i guess Scott Bakkula will be next.

You said it lets also get rid of Gasol and bring back Cook and Mo Evans. What an Idiot.
