It seems like the Lakers are looking at everybody, I wouldn’t be surprised if their looking at bringing back Mike Penberthy. Yeah, that’s right, a Penberthy reference at GetGarnett.com.

N.Y. Post: Magloire, who has drawn interest from at least five teams, including the Wizards and Lakers, seems to be at the top of the Nets’ big-body list. Magloire, 29, has attributes the Nets like, and the team has something that appeals to Magloire: Jason Kidd.

  • Kevin McHale

Take him NOW because Garnett will never come. The Lakers will never be able to attract a big name free agent, so get this second rate player, that is if Mitch can get anything done.

  • That’s Right

I’d rather have Penberthy. And fuck you McHale.

  • punkjones

Never is a pretty strong word. Don’t bet on it yet. I like the rumors floating around right now. I’ve said for the record that it seemed like McHale and Taylor were content to not move KG no matter what and have him opt out or not next year, but boy, the rumors sound good for all sides. Check out Clublakers for the details. It’s only rumor and maybe it hasn’t been discussed at all but I hope it has or does because it sounds great for all parties, Lakers/Boston/Minny. It’s win/win/win all the way. Probably too good to be true because it’s so perfect. I’m crossing my fingers. You reading about this one LF81?

Getting Magloire has nothing to do with KG or JO.
Though 6-11, Jamaal Magloire is a center. And if we get JO or KG, who are PF, we still need to fill center position if we lose Bynum, Kwame and don’t sign Mihm.

Ok guys, I’ve been reading some of your comments and articles on GetGarnett.com, I must admit you guy’s really read “EVERY” article that’s out there…don’t believe everything you read. If it’s out there it’s probably been talked about but then there is a lot that’s made up just to make it sound even better. We are taking our time to get the right players BUT we will not give up too much to get a big name…it would only set us backwards. Thanks for your support.

    Ed24 –
That’s weird. It’s in there under the Lakers Discussion Forum, not the Lakers Trade Forum. I believe it has its own thread, not the big long KG one at 40 something pages. Anyway, I barely want to talk about it so as not to jinx it. It’s purely rumor right now. It’s been floating around, but it basically looks like this from my memory:

    Boston: Odom
    Lakers: KG
    Minny: Green, Ratliff, Kwame, Bynum

Works for Boston as they’re giving up Ratliff as expiring and trading Green (future player) to get Odom for the now to play alongside Al Jefferson, Pierce and Ray Allen. Makes them a contender for next year in the east.

Minny doesn’t have to take Odom’s contract which was the hangup with our proposed deal. Instead they get two young talents in Green from Boston and Bynum for us, plus two hefty expiring contracts worth basically 20 mill to come off the books next year.

Works for us for obvious reasons. We might need to get back Blount from Minny for us because we’ll be depleted at center. We could also re-sign Mihm because we have his Bird’s rights.

It’s just so good all around that it really blows my mind. I just don’t want to be the guy to get everyone’s hopes up here, especially since I’ve been one who’s been saying I thought it was looking like Minny would just hold onto KG and let him opt out. But here it is. I guess hope springs eternal. I don’t want to give false hopes or jinx anything is all. But I’m sure hoping myself.

  • TheComeBacKid

Here’s the deal…Jamaal Magloire isn’t worth a dime to the Lakers. The guy is a stiff, and would probably have a tough time learning the triangle. In my opinion, this is Kupchak trying to show McHale that we are looking elsewhere if need be. Mihm is a good back up center…not a starter, a back up, and he will do fine for us.

I don’t know what the hell that Mark Caseus is doing on here, but get him the hell off. The guys pretending to be McHale and Kupchak are funny, but this guy is a bigger moron than Ric Bucher.

    The Lakers give up Odom 13.5 Kwame 9 Bynum 2.1 = 24.6
    KG 22

Leaves us with no center. If we sign Mihm we still weak at center. I think Bynum would kill the deal. How would we acquire another center? Any ideas? We only have vet min and 1 mil left on MLE.

How about a counter offer of Odom, Bynum and vladimir? Ah forget about it, too serious for me this late at night.

Why yes…I do have a big dick Mark. Thanks for the complement! The only question I have is how do you know?…unless your cracked out mother told you how amazing it was. Grow up douche-bag!

Back to Jamaal Magloire. I’m looking at his stats, and Kwame averages better than him…and at the moment we’re looking to deal kwame, so we’d only be getting worse. In reality, we can only sign one more new player because if we completely rebuild the team, theres no chemestry and the new guys will spend most of the season trying to learn the triangle.

ARTEST is NOT going to be a Laker…at least not this upcoming season. Lets stop talking about him. We have a good team…we’re missing one major piece, which would be KG. We get him, the Spurs are going to have a horrible time competeing with the Lakers.

  • fred0s

I say sign Maglore (well see if he would take what is left of our MLE, and fuck Mihm, peice of shit who wants way way more than he deserves), trade Kwame to the Queens for Artest and Bam, a significant upgrade (well at least on the defensive end).

  • punkjones

Sorry I didn’t give the link guys. Here it is on Clublakers – no idea why you guys couldn’t pull it up on the site itself but:

    http://www.clublakers.com/forums/now-the-celtic-insider-odom-to-boston-t77789,start,30.html

Yeah, it leaves us depleted at center but really, who the hell cares? If you can get KG you do it. If you get Mark Blount that would be ideal. Bynum would obviously have to be in the trade. There’s simply no question about that. He would be a key component for Minny to be interested. Let’s not get too picky in our pipe dream rumors ok? Jeez. We’re talking about the guy that this site is named after. Even hearing this, which is pure unsubstantiated rumor at this point, is heartening to me, just because it’s three team not four, is realistic in terms of appeasing and helping each of the three teams, and simply makes sense. Now that might be because it’s totally FALSE. But this is literally the first time this entire offseason that I’ve heard anything that makes me think a trade for KG would even be possible.

Ummm Is This Supposed To Be A Surprise Lakers Were Interested In Jamaal During The Season. And Fred A. Dont Show Any Sympathy For Lamar Because All The Laker Fans Want Him Gone That Shows Why None Of Them Will Ever Be A GM( Seriously Why Would You Want To Give Away A Triple-Double Machine). And You Try To Use Your Best Players As Possible So Instead Of Mihm At Center Put In Luke Walton And You Have

    PG Fisher
    SG Bryant
    SF Walton
    PF Odom
C O’neal . . . . . . Report – Luke Walton On Espn Said That Kobes Going To Be In A Laker Uniform And That Phil Jackson Thinks That Hes Not Doing His Job If The Lakers Dont Make The 2nd Round. So If Lakers Don’t Make The 2nd ROund Phil Could Leave After This Year.

  • AlexKB24

just get gasol and sign francis that would make a championship teame guys. Fisher will not be a good poing guard beccase he will not concetrate on the game but his daughter think about it.
    PG-Francis
    SG-Bryant
    SF-Walton
    PF-Brown
    C-Gasol
    this will win championships

  • BYNUM17

    TRADE KOBE

For Tyrus thomas, Ben Gordon, and Luol Deng

    Starting lineup is

    PG- Crittenton
    SG- Gordon
    SF- Deng
    PF- Odom
    C- Bynum

Championship in THREE YEARS. Kobe’s butt will be out of LA finally.

Laker fans with half a brain knows kobe is the problem

All you little shitty 15 year old laker fans don’t know JACK about the NBA and BASKETBALL. So fuck all you fools.

    BTW everyone visit kobe-rape.com

    That means Lakers would be
    PG: Fisher/Farmar/Crittenton
    SG: Bryant/ Evans/ Crittenton
    SF: Walton/Radmonivic/Evans
    PF: Garnett/Turiaf/Cook
    C: Blount/Turiaf

    Celtics would be:
    PG: Rondo
    SG: Allen
    SF: Pierce
    PF:Odom
    C: Jefferson

    Timberwolves would be
    PG: Foye
    SG: Davis
    SF: Brewer
    PF: Howard
    C: Bynum

The only question about this trade is if Minnesota would take it, but the Lakers would involve this year’s First round pick and a future Second round pick, while the Celtics would give their First round pick this year. What do you think about this?

    PF – Odom

    C – Turiaf

    Key Reserves: Miller, Evans, Madsen

Sorry, I was off for couple of hours, I didn’t mean to ignore. I just saw your inquiry.

1-Ratliff has an expiring contract. So, that could work although he is close to retirement at 34.
2-Green has also expiring contract and next season is a team option. It’s doable. But I think Wolves may ask for Al Jefferson.God knows what that stupid McHale has in his head?

I hope the rumors are true. But I will not believe it until I see KG next to Mitch showing off his purple and gold jersey with number 21 on it.LOL

how long we have to wait ? the whole fucking summer ? GET SOMETHING DONE, MITCH !

  • lakerfan81

    punkjones
I had suggested a 3-way deal with minny and boston before. It all depends on whether or not Boston is interested in Odom. I think nwith a core of Allen, Peirce, Odom and Jefferson that Boston could compete in compete in the East. But I’m not sure if Either Ainge or McHale are going top be wiling to create a KG/KB combo. But I have a feeling McHale is under a lot of pressure from Taylor to move Garnett and get salary relief. Its a long shot but it could happen.

If you can not get Kg why not try a deal of Odom, Bynum, Cook, Farmar 2008 1st rnd pick for JO and Foster. Indiana saves about 6M in salary right away Puts them well below luxury tax, which is good because they are just at that level now. Then Odom’s salary comes off the books in 2 years so that will save them money after they extend Granger’s contract next year. The problem with that though is this deal puts them at 16 players so they will have to cut someone. just cut Owens (theres only 687K left on his contract). If you could get Indiana to agree to that trade Mihm becomes expendable, as opposed to trading Bynum and Brown for KG or JO where Mihm would be necessary. You could then used Mihm in a sign and trade to a team that is interested in him but did not want to spend any more money (chicago). Maybe a Mihm (S&T) for Duhon or Khryapa or a long shot in Sephalosha. Could work.

  • TheComeBacKid

Hey guys, apparently the stupid cunt Mark Caseus has all our answers with Madsen and Slava. This guy is either a twelve year old little bitch whacking off while he’s on here…or a middle aged little biych who is whacking off to pictures of Madsen and Slava. Final assesment…MARK IS A BITCH ASS!

Its become evident that the butthead Mchale is the reason why the trade hasn’t happened. The Celtic Pride he shows is hurting the Lakers, KG and even his own team. Apparently, his hatred of the Lakers runs so deep that he can’t bring himself to do the right thing.

So, how do you handle that roadblock?

You bring in another team that he feels comfortable with. One that he feels not only comradery with but lands in his comfort zone. Well, let’s see, who could that be? Why, could it be Boston? Last nights punkjones rumors intrigued me. Why? Not just because the pieces fit. Not just because each team is made better by the trade. (a must requirement in all trades) But, because, it gives Mchale a good feeling inside to rationalize giving the Lakers his great player, which is also his great failure. Failing to be competitive with the great KG and watching the Lakers win with him, would be hard to swallow for this former Celtic butthead.

You see, not only is his team helped. But most importantly, his REAL team is helped in his mind, the Celtics. Danny Ainge, his friend, has been trying to right the Celtic ship for how long now? Ainge seems stuck, and is spiraling down. Mchale would be the savior of his beloved team. Adding Odom to the existing pieces of Pierce, Ray Allen, and other fine young talent that the Celtics have would make them a very good team in the weak East.

And who would be responsible for this? Who would be the man that made the Celtics great again? Who could go hunting knowing he personally turned the lowly Celtics around?
And who was demoted this year and probally is going away and could do one last great thing as GM, help his former team?

Mchale would do more to help and save the Celtics than anything he ever did on the basketball court.

He will never trade straight up with the Lakers. This is the only way. That’s why punkjones was so excited about the deal. He saw what it meant. The pieces are close. They actually don’t matter as much as we might think. Its the channel to accomplish the trade that’s important.

The must trade equation rule: All teams will be improved

    In Mchales mind:

For the Lakers: Good, but they are stuck with a large contract

The Twolves: Good, the future now has hope

But for the Celtics: In Mchales mind GREAT. The Dynasty is back. An extra smile on his face when he shoots Bambi between the eyes.

This is the only way this trade will ever happen.

    “Ainge not a willing accomplice”?

Out of all the former Celtics as GM’s, he seems the least one to let hate keep him from making a Laker trade. Remember, he traded with us over Mihm. He wants to build a winner real bad. His fan base has slipped to where they are cheering Kobe on. I also feel he would love to see the Celtics and Lakers going at it again in the Championships. Nothing would get his fans back like a title rematch.

  • That’s Right

Fatty – I would tend to agree. But if you’re McHale, do you want to be the guy who created another Laker dynasty? If McHale is the problem and Taylor wants to make the trade, maybe it will take McHale resigning or being fired before the deal goes down. From what I have read, McHale is not loved by Taylor or Minn fans so I would not discount this possibility.

I think that Taylor has finally determined that dealing Garnett is the only way to make the franchise improve. If you are him and see that McHale is keeping you from getting max value before you lose massive leverage, don’t you fire McHale (or make him resign)?

  • Fatty

    That’s Right

I agree, Mchale is on the way out. Mchale has been there a long time. A forced resignation could be in the works. But when? Before or after the trade. This Boston deal may work. But I still see Mchale going.

  • TheComeBacKid

That’s Right, I couldn’t put it better myself. McHale is stalling because I think he would kill himself if he creates another dynasty for the Lakers. I see him on the way out as well, I think before the trade could happen. My guess, if a deal isn’t done by mid August, Taylor lets McHale go, and does the trade himself.

McFail and Micth Cupcakes will never make a deal at this rate!!! Everyone is holding out too long. It’s a matter of time before someone gives in. Everyone wants the price to go down. It’s really up to Kevin Garnett now. The ball is really in his court. Take less money and make more money later or wait it out as his agent tells him too. Hmm…

  • Fatty

Who would our next center be if the deal goes down as advertised?

We would have none. Mihm could be signed. But, its been a long time for Mihm. I used to remember him being so foul prone that Stu would say he get’s called for a foul when he checks in at the scorers table.

I bring this up, because when push comes to shove, I think the Lakers would do this deal.

With limited resources who could we get? Vet Min and 1 mil left on MLE, that limits us big time.
    Jelani Mcoy will sign cheap.
    Weber?
    Mikki Moore, sign and trade?
    Magloire?

We ain’t gonna get a good one, but with the rest of the team being as good as it is, we will be competitive. The following year we kick butt. I would be happy with that. Most importantly, I think Kobe would be also.

Not that I have the utmost confidence in the Lakers FO, but I sense that if there is no major concern in shoring up the center position. I believe the reason for this is the effort to follow the Chicago Bulls model. Their centers were a rotation of space fillers who were not required to do much.

The triangle really only requires a good passer at that position. The triangle philosophy was necessarily tweaked for Shaq because of his being the first option. But ultimately, a Mihm-Turiaf-and filler center position would be sufficient if you have at least 2 viable scoring options on the floor other than the five position. KB and KG with Fisher would more closely mirror the combination of MJ, Pippen and Kerr/Armstrong. That said, who knows if that is the focus of this year’s free agency effort. Actually, they are making up for the failed summer of dealing Shaq and at the same time dumping Phil and abandoning the players acquired to fill the triangle. That was knee jerk and a huge mistake.

I sense the Lakers feel comfortable in their approach with KG because there has been no effort to shore up the center position. I sincerely doubt that Jerry Buss would have got on the phone with another owner to discuss the acquisition of a player, as reported, unless there was already some substantial foundation already laid for a transaction. I suspect there were some discussions between low levels and KG’s agent prior to that time with the call by Buss being the confirmation to Taylor that Buss would take on that huge financial commitment. Perhaps after this, McHale butted in and torpedoed the deals for the reasons we have discussed.

However, I cannot believe that the Lakers who desperately need to keep KB to maintain its status and financial viability would be so poorly prepared as to not consider other centers if a deal went down. Perhaps the ones on your list will be added and each will be fine once they learn the complex triangle offense, but they will still be insignificant in the scheme. If they don’t land KG, KB will opt out and who would blame him?

I think if McHale wants to save his job he has to get something done with Garnett, even then it may not be enough. Ainge is pretty desperate right now as well, because his job is on the line. That is why he traded for Allen thus creating an older version of Peirce and Walker. IF you add Odom to that line up and use him as a point-forward to create plays for everyone that just might save his job. Also with Odom and Jefferson in the front court that would be 20 rebounds a game, much better than what they have now in an aging Ratliff (who doesn’t even try because the team is bad) playing center. Plus with Odom’s contract only being 22 more years if it does not work out the team can easily be dismantled. Plus this trade does not put them over the luxury tax, like a Garnett trade would.

Minnesota gets young talent in Green, Bynum (you would probably have to include one more player from Boston) plus two expiring contract, and a 2008 first rnd pick (LA) maybe Boston would throw one in as well. With those first two round picks they could trade up in the draft and get two of the following players Beastly, Rose, Gordon, Mayo. That would be a young talented team with cap space. McHAle would an idiot not to take it. But we are talking about McHale though.

The Lakers Could get Blount back from Minny as well which might sweeten the deal, besides that would add at least a little depth to the front court. Garnett would have to wave some of his trade kicker though he could still take almost 3M of it if he wanted to. Garnett would more than make up the money in Endorsements plus contract extension. The lakers would be way over luxury tax.

The lakerrs are at 58M. WHen they take the team option of Turiaf that puts them at about 60M. They lose 24.8M in Bynum, Odom, Brown and take back 28.8M. When Walton and Fisher sign their first yr contract will be about 8.2M together. The lakers would have to resign Mihm. Hopefully they either do a short 1yr deal at 4M or a 3 year deal at 10M. But I will just say he gets 4M in his first year. THat wouuld put the lakers at 13 players (league minimum) and at a salary of 76M. About 9M over luxury tax (that would make us tie PHX for the largest salary). Garnett could still take 3M of his trade kicker (I think he has to if the salaries allow it) which would put the lakers 12M over the luxury tax and at a salary of 79M, easily the highest in the league. So Buss would be paying twice for Fisher, MIhm, and Walton. But he said he would be willing to pay it for Garnett. Plus he would probably easily make it up in extra endorsements the lakers would get by having Garnett on the team.

This trade makes too much sense for everyone for it to actually happen. Maybe if we lock the 3 GMs in a room together until they have an epiphany that this trade works for everyone.

  • KBisDarthVader

dammit, this trade should get done. odom peirce and allen would be a great combo out east, and minni gets to dump a bunch of money and pick up good prospects.

KBisDarthVader, I agree that a deal should get done and the stupid celtics can have there attempt at a great run in the east again with the good players they’ve acquired, but I disagree with you that Mchale is a good gm unless you were being sarcastic. Mchale is an idiot because 1. Because he won’t get Lebron because cleveland will either extend him when the time comes to his free agent year and if they were stupid to let him go when it came that time, Lebron would goto a big market city like LA, NY, or Chicago. #2 on why mchale is an idiot is because his hatred of the lakers is ruining there chance of finally getting to officaly rebuild because eventhough Golden State is a threat to try and get him, that may not last long because if they deal pietrus (someone who minnesota would want back as part of the return out of other players is dealt to miami thru sign and trade as recent rumors have surfaced that i have seen on realgm come through), that takes them out therefore leaving LA as the only team that’s willing to take on his contract. KG is going to be dealt before the season because Glen Taylor has ordered it and for us laker fans, we actually need Glen to step in and do the work because Glen will do it regardless if its the lakers or not because i’m sure he is getting tired of Mchale’s stupidity and insubordinate acts.

Knicks 88 mil = No Playoffs
Suns 76 mil (only have 12 signed players) = Yet to beat a good team in playoffs
    Lakers 150 gazillion? = ??????????? (Kobe stays)

My Laker wish: Kobe and KG take less money when they can opt, so Lakers can bring in more pieces to the puzzle

  • lakerfan81

Is the Knicks pay roll that high? I thought Dallas was the highest at 79M because they are still paying for Finley.

  • lakerfan81

Players should be able to renegotiate their contracts to make less money if they so desire. That would make it easier for teams with players like Kobe, AI, Peirce to build contending teams.

lol were not giving mihm another 4 mil

  • Fatty

If we lose all our centers and with little FA money to sign people, Mihm, unfortunately for us, he can fill out his own check.

Mihm, before injury was making 4.2 and was considered a bargain. I don’t care what he gets, I don’t have to pay him.
Finding a center to play the triangle is tough. Mihm according to Tex Winter is a good fit for the triangle. Has nice range, has a low post game, can pass, and can catch the ball.(tex’s word’s, not mine)

More on centers. We could start the year with Mihm, Ronny, KG, Jelani Mckoy, but it doesn’t mean we finish it that way.
Trades could open up, players get released and we can sign them, etc….. Once we looking good, some guys will want to play with us.

I’m sure Buss has his limits, but who do you sign with the exception limits were under. We have Bird’s right exception with Mihm, we can match any offer out there. That’s how we signed Walton for so much. We also could trade Mihm later in the season as well if the right deal comes along.

Who is the GM for the Spurs? Whoever it is, he is the best GM in the NBA. He just traded the draft rights to Scola and Jackie Butler to the Rockets for Spanoulis. Spanoulis does not want to play in the NBA so he is going to waive his contract. This saves the Spurs about 7M. IT works for the Rockets because Scola is a solid player and they needed a PF. But the Spurs were not going to ever buy out his contract so are not really giving up anything and still saving money. Brilliant. Can the Lakers clone him?

There is a great Chad Ford article that describes 5 rules for GMs. It is quite good. I will paste the link and recommend reading it.
