ESPN: Shannon Brown scored a career-high 22 points, Pau Gasol had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers scored the first 15 points of the fourth quarter Monday night for a 98-92 victory over the Orlando Magic in the first rematch of last season’s NBA finals.

Kobe Bryant scored just 11 points on 4-of-19 shooting, but his teammates carried the Lakers to their 18th win in 19 home games in a remarkable fourth-quarter rally led almost entirely by reserves.

Brown scored nine points in the fourth, while Lamar Odom and Jordan Farmar combined for 13 straight points while Los Angeles roared away in the opening minutes of the final period.

Dwight Howard had 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Magic, who wrapped up a four-game road trip with their third straight loss and seventh in nine games. The way Orlando lost was even more disconcerting, with a wildly up-and-down performance that bottomed out in the fourth, when the Magic didn’t manage a field goal for nearly six minutes.

Farmar scored 11 points and Odom had nine points and 16 rebounds for the Lakers, who reached the halfway point of their regular-season schedule with another win over the Magic, who fell to Los Angeles in five games in the finals last summer.

good game for shannon an farmar

  • KOBE THA MVP 10′

    what happened to Kobe?????????????????????????

Only 11 points on 20 shots?? He looks a little rusty, I may give the MVP to Lebron cuz Kobe is’nt what he was in tha beginning of tha season but as long we win tha Champion, its all good

    • Green Flannel

kobe doesnt care about mvps or scoring titles as long as he is all about playing 82 games. and hes obviously not hurting the team so he has every right to play

      • Green Flannel

oh yeah dude he has a FRACTURED FINGER of course he’s not what he used to be hes injured!

    • ilikebasketball

did you not watch the game? and have you been in a cave the last two years?
he has two broken fingers, and now has back spasms.

      he shouldn’t even be playing.

at this point if he doesn’t rest or recuperate, then he may not get the mvp.
but the ring is what we want.

      • Green Flannel

i have been well outside of a cave for quite some time and thanks to league pass i have watched every game except for one for the last three and a half seasons so i have a generalization of kobe and his playing style. and if you have seen ‘kobe doin’ work’ then you know that even if he plays well or needs others to carry the team he still doesn’t stop giving advice. him and Pjax never give up they act as though they still have a fighting chance (if they are being blown away) and play smart if they are up by a lot. and you still did not disagree with, me he is what he is because of his injuries. i forget why but kobe had any injury on his middle finger during the finlas..they won. i agree with you as long as we win the ship it’s all good…but kobe has yet to hurt the team enough that they would be behing the cavs or celtics.

Nice to see others steppin up while Kobe’s shots weren’t fallin! It’s evident that Kobe’s back is still botherin him. He didn’t have the explosiveness nor was he smooth, kinda just rigid all night long. Props to Shannon for fillin in and showin that he can do more than just DUNK! Hope that Kobe’s gonna be fine come Thursday night! Can’t believe that Kobe’s always hurt when he’s playing against LeBrick! Wish that it would be the other way around for once or that Kobe would at least be healthy!

    Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jim

Great win tonight for us, with the exception of the 3rd quarter, the defense was outstanding tonight. The guys really worked hard on their defensive rotations and trying to contest every shot.

The bench mob came to play tonight, particularly Shannon, Farmar and Odom (2 huge tip ins to tie the score at 68). They outscored the Magic bench 42 to 15. As Chick used to say, “That’ll get it done.”

But the great thing is, Kobe had an off shooting night, scored only 11 points, and we still won against one of the best teams in the league. That’s awesome.

  • thanhttrinh

possible is nothing when its KOBE !
even with a back injuried still bothering him and a bad index finger but then, on thursday night KObe will show why he is the best !
that would be a fukin disappoint lose at home for the Cavs and Lebitch !

  • http://theLakersNation Marwan..

-Worth noting about the Lakers’ 4th-quarter comeback: Lamar Odom 7 rebounds, entire Magic team 8 rebounds

-Bynum DNP in 4th quarter. Phil said gastrointestinal problem that involved one run to go throw up.

-Shannon had a career high 22 points in the game.

-Jackson credited his bench for the win and recognized that Kobe got cracked on the hand & suffered to find rhythm.

-Dwight Howard on Shannon Brown: “He’s in the category of Vince Carter, Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins.”

-The Lakers tied a season-low with 7 turnovers, while Orlando had 7 in the fourth quarter alone (13 total).

-Phil said Kobe’s 4-for-19 shooting was b/c he didn’t shoot past 2 days while resting sore back — and b/c aggravated finger.

-Brown and Farmar combined with Lamar Odom (nine points and 16 rebounds) to outscore Orlando’s bench 42-15.

    • 09champs!

Nice summary ;) and yeah, not an excuse, but kobe got hit in the first quarter, and said it felt like it was completely broken.
I guess Farmar has heard about the rumors, he has been playing in a way he had never played before. Good to see though.
Props to this year´s dunk champion, Shannon played out of his mind.

  • The Emperor

Well we can thank that Slam Dunk Contest acceptance for Shannon’s magical performance.

    • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

Wasnt Shannon playing great before he was in the Slam Dunk contest? This guy plays his best every game, just this game happened to be the best one so far.

      • Green Flannel

exactly.. the announcers were saying he is on fire and i seemed almost used to his constant makes.

      • The Emperor

Yeah, I won’t deny that. When I said magical I meant better than average. Oh well, kudos.

      • Green Flannel

yea he is a special guy, isn’t he?

  • lkrz008

KObe should REST the damn finger, its getting annoying now (although i do feel bad for the guy it must be really frustrating). O wait he cant 8 game road trip begins on thurs. I don’t get how playing all 82 games is more important than being fully healthy and ready for wen it matters most. KOBE kobe kobe…stubborn fellow. As long as lakers keep winning its hard to get mad though. Hopefully they beat the cavs and redeem us fans for the xmas day horror.

    • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

Well seeing how we are 2 or so games ahead of Cleveland, Kobe cant risk homecourt to rest his finger, because anything can happen. I say its a smart idea and stupid idea. Smart because he doesnt wanna lose homecourt, but stupid cause what if the records stay this close throughout the season, he would have no time to rest it for the playoffs. Oh well, lets see what he does.
If we do lose to Cavs (pray to god that we dont), things change in the playoffs. We got swept by Magic last season, but destroyed them in the Finals. Point is, anything can happen in the playoffs but still, beating Cleveland is good for us.

  • drive-for-16th

Yes Cleveland is important to beat but lets not forget Boston. We have to beat them both like last year on their home courts.

  • http://TheLakersNation LeBronx

Hi I’m LeBronx, I’m headed to New York next season!

  • http://TheLakersNation LeBronx

    I’m the Choken One

  • http://TheLakersNation LeBronx

Im LeBronx Ames, I got no J

  • http://57.amklac laffs atu

to badd there wasn`t O.T..kobe could of gone 4 for 30, another laker record for it.

  • Bench Bynum

I think the Lakers should bench Bynum and start Odom. There’s more ball movement with Odom in the starting lineup. Lakers should go 6-2 on the roadie with the losses against Cavs and Celts.

    • B Holland

That would be a dumb move. You want Odom coming off the bench because he is a more versatile player and can sub for any front court position.

  • AllthewayLA

Kobe was off but as good as he is, he was able to find a way to contribute, by dishing out assists that is.

  • 242LakerFan

Why is playing 82 important? It’s called pride. It’s called something to look back at and say, “Yeah, I did that. I was that damn good.”
It’s obvious some of you have never had something like that in your lives.
Kobe prides himself on being the best and, as much as skill and athleticism are involved in that, there is another factor that lifts him above the rest (including LeBron) into the category of an MJ or an Isaiah or a Bird; being a warrior.
When it’s all said and done, whether or not you agree that he was the best ever, you will never be able to say he could have done more. Kobe will be done only when there is nothing left.
Props to the team for proving that as much as Kobe carries them, when the time comes, they are capable of carrying Kobe. This is the kind of team that wins Chips!
    Lakers World Order: Stand UP!

    • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

Man you couldn’t have said it any better. People sit out to play for tomorrow. Why play tomorrow when you can play today and look back on it tomorrow?

  • onlyone laker fan in L.A.

Kobe is the mamba does the mamba take a day off no never? He kills everyday.
Props to Shannon phil maybe you should adjust the line up .
Start Fish then ifs hes not hot sit him fish that is
Bynum also start and get rollin and if not play Lamar.
Farmar played well but his defense is still a little poor.
Lakers need to kick Clevlands ass .

  • daboss1848

good thing we have the weak ass “ears” fartmore kid . . .

  • thanhttrinh

@ bench bynum : Lakers go 6-2 with 2 losses against cavs and celdicks ? nice prediction dude
    i would say 8-0, we will…

  • drive-for-16th

We will not go 6-2, how can ya’ll even think about losing to the cavs and celdicks.

    • daboss1848

hes right . . . 5-3 with losses to knicks, pacers, and grizz.

thanks for keeping them honest, drive.

  • http://TheLakersNation PWNED

Lebron was 0-7 from 3PT. Kobe wouldnt shoot that much 3s in one game. If he would, he would make at least 4 or 3 of them. Thats just disgusting Lebron. He only had 1 foul. How rare is that. Once in 20 games.

  • http://TheLakersNation PWNED

    “Tough home W for @Cavs 108-100 over @Raptors behind LeBron’s near trp-dbl 28 pts,9 reb,11 ast. Mo Will 22 &10 ast & Bosh 21″ From NBA’s twitter.

If Lakers had a close game like that at home to the Raptors, they would say that they are shit and slumping and cant play championship basketball, but its ok for Queen Lebronx and his Traveliers, it was just a tough game for them.

  • http://57.amklac laffs atu

get used to it girls…LE BRONZE is the face of the NBA the only people that can“t stand him are you lossser laker fans.Kobe is yesterdays gunner news.

  • thanhttrinh

im getting tired of hearing about LeBitch Clown, the reason that KObe didnt score much in last game against Orlando and he still not reach the 25000 pts because he wants to knock off LeBitch on the next game and would reach his 25,000 pts i think, and after all the top story would be nice when KObe celebrates on a disappoint loss at home for LeBitch and his clowns in that gay city !
anyway, but i believe that we gonna destroy both Cavs and Celdicks, we should win those 2 fukin games, however we went 6-0 last yr so imma say we gonna go 8-0 on that road trip !
