Lakers need Odom more then ever now. Will he step up? Or will he be a complete dud for the next 7 weeks? Sound-off in the comments and tell us what you think!

L.A. Times: As evidenced by Wednesday night’s second-half meltdown at San Antonio, this could be a rough patch for Lamar Odom and the Lakers. . . .

L.O. goes AWOL too often. . . .

That could become especially troublesome for Phil Jackson and the Lakers, who play only eight of their next 22 games at Staples Center before Andrew Bynum’s expected return in the second week of March. . . .

  • T-Dub

I’ve been saying that for 3yrs now!

  • gugy

Odom needs to grow up and play real basketball. He needs to stop being so insecure. Come on, he makes too much money to play too little.

Now more than ever I believe LO needs to get trade on the off season.

  • mauriceaj

come on Odom, U must step up, 18+ ppg and 10+ rpg !!! I know you CAN do it, have confidence in yourself

  • LakersFirst

Odom does step up in the playoffs. For the past two years in the playoffs, he’s averaged 19 pts and 12 boards a game (so he can do it), but he needs to step it up NOW more than ever with Bynum out.

I don’t know what his issue is. Since the beginning of 2008, he
seems like he’s trying pull a Robery Horry and coast until the playoffs. If he is doing this, then he should reconsider this thinking because we need him to step up and show more consistency now.

  • Shaq786

if odom doesn’t start being more consistent…. ship him out to miami for udonis and j-will… then send j-will and a second rounder for maggette (if we could swing maggette for artest, i would do it in a heart beat!)

    LAKERS:

    D-FISH/FARMAR/JAVARIS
    KOBE/SASHA/JAVARIS
    MAGGETTE/ARIZA/WALTON
    UDONIS/TURIAF/V.RAD
    BYNUM/KWAME/MIHM

  • sammie

Come on Lamar! we know you can do it! you want to start winning? HELP YOUR TEAM OUT ALREADY! Kobe is not going to keep on doing it by himself!

  • LakersOnFire

i never see odom make a consistent effort to impact the game. i’d like to see him come out and be more aggressive posting guys up and getting into the lane especially when alot of the other guys are just standing around on the outside. but as T-dub alluded to, how long have we been waiting for lamar to come out and be a star. even with andrew out, he’s only averaging 12.5ppg, about the same as before. other guys like fish, turiaf, farmar and sasha are stepping it up. i’d like to see him go 20ppg and 10rpg and he is capable of that with his level of talent.

i seriously think that he has problems focusing and concentrating on the game. he has shown to have alot of mental lapses during games (not waiting to take the last shot and dribbling the ball in from out of bounds). i think his mental weakness is hugely handicapping the potential he has to be an awesome player. at 6’10” with his kind of agility and length, he could easily dominate his matchups on a nightly basis but we don’t see it happen that frequently. i think we’ve all seen glimpses of what he can do (19ppg/19rpg) and this gets our hopes up but most of the time he only leaves us wishing for more. COME ON LAMAR! (if phil needs to make some snide comments to get him going, im all for it)

on a side note, walton has been playing terribly. i don’t know if its injuries or what but at the moment he brings nothing to the team. i really wanted them to keep him over the summer, but now i wish we had someone with more talent.

I couldn’t agree more on Odom and Luke. I’m not with the people that say trade odom or with those who defend him. Lamar can prove either party wrong on any given night. His mental lapses drive me insane! His latest being against the Spurs and feeding Barry two 3’s in a matter of seconds. I start yelling at my TV when i see lamar lose focus and just lets the game get out of hand. It seems like he’s either out of the game entirely or he tries to force something and it ends in a turnover.

I know Luke isn’t 100%…but usually when you aren’t 100%, only pieces of your game are missing. I don’t remember luke every playing this bad. I wanted to keep him over the summer too, but now he just looks incapable against other players. If anyone can tell me what luke brings to the game now (don’t say passing cause that’s now OUT THE WINDOW), please let me know. I wouldn’t want to dump him out of the blue right now, but he needs to start showing signs of life.

Shaq 786 I think your really on to something, though I would love for LO to stay but this for DEM Rings(whether this or NEXT).I’ve been saying get Maggette since last year. This guy is toooooo good to playing with the SLIPPERS.Somebody on another site said Udonis would be a nice pick up for the Lakers but I would rather have BW(BIG BEN).Both have championship experience so it’s a toss up.I use to be a Pistons fan back in Isaiah’s day.

  • MILO

    PLEASE NO CHARGING ODOM!!!

  • MILO

    MIHM WHERE ART THOU???

  • LEADERFISH

Everyone on this site knows LO goes AWOL.

    TO THE MODS:

Since you have a little more influence to the Lakers than most of us here. I have a little petition, maybe we (yes, us fans) should start demanding Lamar to play HARDER. I know it’s not just I that thinks Lamar has (or had) so much potential. I think he can be an ALL-STAR caliber player if he chooses to. But it never happened and probably never will.

Last game was a great example of how Lamar will only be as good as he allows himself to be. He doesn’t shoot the entire game when he was needed to step up BUT decided to take over when the chances of getting back to the game was slim. I want to call him Lamar “A little too late” Odom.

I’ve always backed Lamar up about how he has so much potential and how you really can’t teach 6-11. But daym, he’s one of the main players on this laker squad. He’s got to start playing hard everytime he’s in the game, not only whenever he feels like it.

Someone start a column called “Lamar-watch” or sumthin, please. If he doesn’t get it together, maybe we can do a Brian Cook on him.

    Please make this work mods.

  • T-Dub

I didn’t have a problem with the re-signing of Luke…it was the 6 years I had the problem with. I think he deserved more like 3yrs/ 12mil. I felt he had peaked talent and skill wise and he’ll only get older and slower at this point. As I said in another post on LO, I really don’t think he wants to play basketball, that playing more for other people than himself. To me, the ideal attitude of a professional athlete should be to want to be great, the best. I just don’t see that in LO.

  • Flush Odumb

Step Up? What do you mean?

10-15 points, around 10 rebounds and a handful of assists per game. As so versatile!

What more do you want from the second highest paid player on the team?

  • 187 ON BOSTON

IS’NT THIS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SAYING SINCE WE SIGNED HIM. LET BRYAN AKA “CHIPMUNK” KEEP MASSAGING LAME-ARS BALLS WITH HIS JAWS SOME MORE AND WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET WIM TO PLAY THE WAY WE NEED HIM TO PLAY WITH THIS INCENTIVE.

odom is good but he doesn’t do it in the game, he is a good passer, especially for a PF, so if you have him with 2 other good passers Kobe and Luke you got the team passing like the harlem gobe trotters

but lame-ar o-dumb is not using his increadible passing ability during the game. remember his rookie year, he said he was a great passer who was tall like magic so he needs to do that

he is a good three point shooter and he is tall so it makes him hard to guard, so he needs to take advantage of that

but he is not, when ever he shoots a three it looks like he doesn’t have a good look at the basket and he is not positive he will make it so he needs to be a better shooter

the other thing is when you compare his stats this year to last year last year he had way better stats so he needs to get the stats he had last year and take bynum’s place

if lamar cant do that trade him along with kwame and radmanovic

Ya’know something T-DUB I think convinced me about LO.I just think the lost of his son was too much to deal with and it’s showing on the court,in a since I really feel for the guy. That’s what makes it so hard for me to judge him because YOU NEVER GET OVER THE LOSS OF A LOVED(ASK ANY FATHER THAT HAS BURIED A SON OR DAUGHTER,ESPECIALLY AN INFANT).For me though,if I had the cruel challenge of trading him GET S.MARION OR C.MAGGETTE OR JO(it would be better if him & JO was on the team together).

  • thisbedo

i know he has gone thru alot in his life and no-one knows how that feels but he is a professional he should check everything at the locker room door. When its game time punch in and show up and play! i would want to trade him but realistically hes the best person we can get for pf right now he just has to play like he did in Miami or hes not gonna be s laker until he retires! he needs to stop playing like a pg and play like a damn pf take it coast to coast and dunk the damn ball not pull up for a 3

That’s what they say check it at the door or how ever they say it but until either me or rest of Lakernation go through what LO has gone through and continues to through, all I can do is pray for the Brother and wish him and his wife alot of strength and a piece of mind,AMEN.

  • alex

lamar is garbage he has been inconsistent for the last 3 years he is not a guy u can count on even kwame had more poinmts than he did and luke just straught out sucks

  • willow

Is anyone else here tired of the word “potential” and “Lamar Odom” being mentioned in the same sentence or reply? Potential, smotential! He is basically wasted talent. Someone had mentioned here that he is mentally weak and I totally agree with him 100%. Even before the tragic death of his son, he’s been very inconsistent in going about being a professional basketball player. Why Pat Riley must’ve been high on crack when he gave LO that ridiculous contract.

  • kaynam24

SOMEONE REALLY NEED TO CALL ODOM OUT… HES ALWAYS SAYIN IN INTERVIEWS “I NEED TO BE MORE AGGRESSIVE… I HAVE TO SCORE” WELL WTF MAN DO IT!!!! DONT SAY IT DOOOOOOOOOOOOO ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT… MAN… PHIL JACKSON SHOULD CALL HIM OUT… HE NEEDS TO AVS LIKE 20 PTS A GAME TO FILL IN FOR BYNUM.. WHICH HE CAN DO EASILY IF HES SMART…

  • Nikko

this guy has never been a leader, we have been saying this all the time how we need him now more than ever. He’s good when followed by example. Not much self motivation or the will to know when to take charge. Pippen knew when to step off and step in when needed to lead his squad. (since some have compared him to Pip in the past)
Don’t count on Odom to bail us out..he just works there

  • mplakers

NIKKO THAT’S A GOOD ANALOGY FOR WHAT ODUMB DOES….”HE JUST WORKS HERE”
ODUMB IS A WALKING ADVERTISEMENT FOR THAT SLOGAN. THEY SHOULD SHOW CLIPS OF HIS LOWLIGHTS AND THEN FLASH THAT SLOGAN…KIND OF LIKE THAT “WHERE AMAZING HAPPENS” COMMERCIAL FOR THE NBA…..ODUMB “HE JUST WORKS HERE”………LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • as1084

this guy needs to get traded big time! all this guys does is rebound, commit charges (too lazy to use his footwork so he just bulldozes his way through defenders) and bricks 3s! once again he disappeared in dallas tonight. i mean once in a while its ok to have off games but damn this becoming a habit for him. TRADE HIM!!

  • http://getgarnett.com lakeshow08

L.O is not a scorer, yes he has his strengths but not a good fit for us. Kobe needs a sidekick and with Bynum down he doesn’t have it. Lukes’ done a complete 360 from last year we need to get rid of both these bums.

  • Flush Odumb

Lame-ar sure stepped up tonight against Dallas…

    2 of 9 shooting, 4 points, 2 rebs

And this is the guy that is going to complement Kobe & Bynum and help us win another banner? Sorry folks but it ain’t gonna happen!

This guy has got to have one of the lowest basketball IQ’s on the team. He makes one dumb play after another. Time to pull the plug on this turkey!

  • Odom the worst player

Again like I said all along, this guy can’t step up. He is what he is, a guy who shoots brick after brick and plays no defense. He is so inconsistent that it is pathetic. This guy is a joke.

  • e

why couldnt we have kept caron butler and traded lamar instead!!! oh the irony!!!

  • willow

Good point Flush Odumb on how LO has the lowest basketball IQ on the team. I thought I would give it to Vladi or even DJ Mbenga or even the immortal Smush Parker if he was still on the team but this guy is definitely what Phil would call a “Space Cadet”.

I’ve given up on LO years ago. He is what he is, lacks heart and will to be a winner. You can find someone else for a helluva lot less money to rebound as much as he does. (and not even consistently) Someone please push the dump button on this guy.
