The Los Angeles Lakers secured the #7 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night.

After a train wreck of a season, the Lakers sent “Big Game” James Worthy along with some good luck charm bobble heads. Unfortunately, the luck was not there as the Purple and Gold fell one spot from their projected spot at #6.

The last time the Lakers found themselves in the lottery was 2005, when they acquired a young and raw center from New Jersey: Andrew Bynum.

It is unknown what the Lakers plan on doing with their #7 pick, but the consensus is that they will do all they can to trade the pick to acquire an established star to pair with Kobe Bryant in an attempt to win sooner rather than later.

How many people think the lottery is rigged, Cav’s get the #1 pick AGAIN with a 1.7% chance! Lakers had a 6.4 chance and get 7th pick, The Bucks had a 26% chance again! and loose it to the Cav’s again.

    • mck

Why in the WORLD would the NBA rig the lottery in favor of the miserable Cavaliers!?

      • Thomas Klein

Because they lost Lebron, and cried to the league

        • wangkon936

Yeah, but what about that cancelled Chris Paul trade? The NBA so owes us….

          • stucktrader

            no doubt… they do…

Sadly, the Lakers should have traded Pau, even for a 2nd rounder… would have gotten under the luxury tax line…

Pau wont stay… now no top3 pick (although any top 10 pick would have worked)

Kobe taking up that much cap space…

In the end, he might have to be happy with 5 rings… and maybe #3 on the all time scoring list…

      • phreyncee

They want Lebron to come back, the story line would sell millions of seats/ads and fuel storylines for the NBA

    • stucktrader

it feels rigged if Lebron goes to the Cavs

  • wangkon936

In honor of this exceedingly strange day:

  • Max Prime

Resign Gasol, pick up Michael Beasley, Marshall and Kelly a year better and a healthy Kobe…1st pick Vonleh second Kane

  • Max Prime

We pick up Vonleh 1st pick…DeAndre Kane 2nd pick. This and a Gasol resign, a Michael Beasley sign, Marshall and Kelly a year better and a healthy Kobe should get us back in the Finals

    • wangkon936

Yo, we don’t get a 2nd round pick this year. We traded that to the Bucks.

      • stucktrader

Lakers can buy a 2nd round pick if they really wanted a particular player…

The Lakers are trudging up Dark Mountain and approaching the precipice. If they go over the edge, the franchise may well enter an extended period of bad times, the likes of which we haven’t experienced since the end of the West/Wilt era. Getting this draft, free agent and trading period right is going to be critical. The suggestion here is that using the overall 7th pick plus whatever other assets will work, they should make a run at acquiring either Kevin Love or Kyrie Irving.

Both teams have reason to want to get something for those players, who will likely opt out and leave the teams with nothing when they become FA’s. Cleveland probably loses Kyrie anyway, so they could parlay their 1st overall with the Lakers #7 to basically build something around those two picks plus guys like Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson. and, maybe, Anthony Bennett (Certainly they haven’t given up on him yet). They will undoubtedly want more than just the Lakers pick, but perhaps given a choice of a couple of guys like Kendall Marshall and Jordan Hill and a pick from 2016 or ’17 would be enough to sway them – if they are convinced that Kyrie will leave on his own anyway.

Minnesota is probably more convinced at this point that Love is leaving. The problem with acquiring KLove is that a number of teams look interested and some of them could likely marshal better trade offers than the Lakers are capable of matching or beating. Hopefully they will be dissuaded by Love refusing to give them assurances of a willingness to re-up with them after next year. Unfortunately, Golden State is likely one f the teams with interest and Love probably would give them such assurance. Still, it doesn’t hurt to test the footing.

The main thing is getting it right. This test is going to tell all of us a lot about what we can expect in the next decade with Jimmy in his ability to guide the franchise back to glory. If he gets the next few months wrong – darkness. He has done very little to convince anyone that he is up to the task. We’ll see.

  • Leon

The Lakers got screwed out of moving up in the draft and then the Cavs get the #1 pick after all that crap i find out the Lakers did their first coaching interview and it was to that piece of crap bald headed idiot Mike Dumbleavy.Yeah this is the worst 24 hours in Lakers history……I hate life right now and i hate Mike Dumbleavy he is the worst coach ever and he will be the worst hire ever.

  • Max Prime

per 36 minutes. Beasley will give you pretty much the same stats that laMarcus Aldridge gives you.

  • Max Prime

Yeah Im not saying we build our team around Michael Beasley but he makes a great 3rd option. Kobe, Gasol and Beasley. as your top 3 options. each one can create each one can shoot and each can demand a double team.

  • Max Prime

Beasley still puts up good numbers when he gets minutes. Better numbers per 36 than Gordon Hayward, Kawhi Leonard, Chandler Parsons, Jeff Green, Better per 36 than Josh Smith, Rudy Gay, Luol Deng, Andre Iguodala. Per 36 similar numbers to Paul Pierce and Paul George with better FG%. Than George. Still only 25. go get him Mitch, go get him. He’d make a great 3rd option. You need 3 offensive options and 2 defense first players to make a good squad.

  • Max Prime

stupid Mitch Kupchak…breaks up a team if they don’t win a ring. Jerry West wouldn’t cast off players because they didn’t win it every year. ad a piece and go with the bitter taste of losing as motivation. But stupid Mitch say “it’s not like we’re breaking up a Championship team.” yeah it is!!! That’s why the spurs are always right there. they leave the core together. and add a few peripheral pieces. Sometimes you catch a bad break that costs your team the ring. But don’t go break it all down. So shut up with; “it’s not like we’re breaking up a championship team.” bullshit!!! and stop Micro Managing.

  • Max Prime

If we don’t have lock down defenders which we pretty much don’t right now. Than we need good to great team defense. But D’Antoni wants non lock down defenders to play individual lock down defense. Therefor he never institutes a team defensive scheme. the worse your individual defense is the more you have to hide it with schemes. traps, zones etc. and mix it up.

  • Max Prime

This is the real reason we were so bad defensively this past year. Glad he’s gone. Give the Job to B-Scott.

  • GQ Magic

I think the Lakers should draft Marcus Smart with their pick.Honestly Marcus Smart is the total package at the draft combine he scored better times in speed and agility than Chris Paul,Russell Westbrook,John Wall he was faster than those guys wow yes lets draft him.Marcus Smart is compared regularly to Dwayne Wade and that is the highest compliment to any guard. Also he has drawn many comparisons in the past to Jason Kidd because of his handles and passing ability. And yes he has been compared to Gary Payton defensively they play similar great defense. The Lakers will be very lucky and blessed if they draft Marcus Smart.Lets draft Smart.

    • Max Prime

Dwayne Wade shot over 50% in College. Smart shoots in the low 40’s…in college which will probably be in the high 30% in the pro’s.

    • Max Prime

DeAndre Kane has better all around numbers than Smart and can be gotten much later for less than Smart.

    • Max Prime

Also…DeAndre Kane had the fastest sprint time in the whole combine. 3.16. vs 3.26 for Smart. Shot a better FG% better rebound and assist numbers. Juxtapose and you’ll see that Kane is the better player. Smart just has more hype!!!

  • Max Prime

Marcus Smart’s FG% is too poor. In the low 40’s does not translate well for the NBA. I predict Smart is not a true PG. Although he played it in College. All he is, is a poor man’s Andrew Goudelock.

    • Ben

Poorman’s Andrew Goudelock WTF???Whoa you must not have ever watched Marcus Smart play a game before. You don’t understand his game at all.Marcus Smart is a great player and he is much netter than Andrew Goudelock ever could dream of being.Marcus Smart is all world on defense check out a you tube video he has a new defense one an and you will see how defense should be played. His defense creates offense when he forces turnovers and he is fast and athletic with great basketball IQ.He will prove you wrong. You must just be a Marcus Smart hater.

      • Max Prime

Not a Smart hater…just a student of basketball. But you may be right and I may be wrong. We’ll just have to wait and see. right??? I got Dante Exum as the best player in this draft. I had Michael Carter Williams as the best in last years draft. And I got criticized for saying that. But who had the last laugh. go ahead and take Smarts 41% FG . Take it all the way to the lottery again next year.

      • Max Prime

The only knock I have on Smart is his FG% But that is a big one for me. To me FG% is the biggest factor in the success of a team. that and assist/turnover ratio.

  • Max Prime

per 40 mins DeAndre Kane stats; 19.8 pts. on .483 fg% 7.9 rebounds 6.9 assists
per 40 mins Marcus Smart stats; 20.1 pts. on 413 fg% 7.1 rebounds 5.4 assists.
They played in the same conference against the same competition.

    • Damian

He is just as delusional as some of our fans on here. Please remember Marcus Smart is only 19 years old and DeAndre Kane is 25 years old that makes a huge difference in stats. Also Marcus Smart is a way way way better defensive player than Kane.Come on now you must already know that NCAA and NBA are two different games and Marcus Smart translates to the NBA since he is very fast and very athletic and very strong he finishes at the rim with contact all the time.

He shot over 50% from 2 point range but he did take 3 pointers that brought his overall field percentage down.Overall most people compare Marcus Smart to Dwayne Wade since they both have similar builds and simialar style of play.

They both are not exactly Stephen Curry from 3 point land but they are great at other things like shooting pull up jumpers from 10-15 feet and also when they finish at the rim with contact creating tons of and 1 chances. Both are excellent defensively.Marcus Smart has a winners mentality and he has a big heart as he is very competitive he just wants to win at all cost.Marcus Smart might get picked top 5 while DeAndre Kane will be a second round pick or undrafted.GM’s love Marcus Smart and that’s a fact they all gush and drool all over him and have rave reviews. While DeAndre Kane is unwanted and not looked at positively at all.Lakers will draft Marcus Smart and i hope they draft Smart just to piss you off.

      • Max Prime

Marcus Smart lost twice to DeAndre Kane and Smart is such a great defender that Kane put up 27pts. 7rbnds and 8asts in the first game and 26pts 9rbs 9asts in the second game. So much for Smart being a great defender.

      • Max Prime

Also Iowa St. won the Big 12 Championship this past year and DeAndre Kane was the MVP. DeAndre Kane will be the better NBA player in the end who ever gets him. I Guarantee it!!!

  • Max Prime

per 40 mins Elfrid Payton stats; 21.4 pts. on 509 fg% 6.7 rebounds 6.6 assists
per 40 mins Tyler Ennis stats; 14.5 pts. on 411 fg% 3.8 rebounds 6.2 assists.
Only case where i have seen a players FG% increase from college to pro’s is Chris Paul’s .
Other than him it usually drops by .05 to .10%.
Who are the knuckle heads that would take such a crappy FG%…I like the Smart to Wade comparisons. Wade shot over 50% in college, Smart as stated earlier 413%. just horrible shooting.

  • Max Prime

Let me put in this way…If you don’t shoot plus 45% as a guard in college I don’t even want to look at you. Unless your putting up big assists numbers than I could bring it down a little. As a forward, you better be 49 to 55% and as a center you need to be high 50’s to to low 60’s FG%

  • Max Prime

The name of the game is efficient scoring. The reason Lebron is so good, the reason Jordan was so good, the reason Spurs are there every year(Tony Parker). Anybody can put up points, But can you do it efficiently? That’s what wins games and that’s what wins rings.

  • Max Prime

Best Point Guards in this draft…DeAndre Kane and Elfrid Payton
Best Shooting Guards…………….Nik Stauskas, Jordan Adams and Zach Levine who shot 44% which is okay for a freshman.

  • lakefan87

I think Lakers should take Gordon.. we really need to invest in a SF.He’s very athletic and could make an impact. although Smart is starting to sway me a bit because i truly believe that he will be able to guard new and current point guards.

    • Max Prime

If we keep the pick…Gordon would be a nice pick. But he will not be a huge contributor for a couple years. However- he is definitely not a centerpiece on a Championship team. He’s a good sidekick at best.

    • Max Prime

Although Gordon has the higher profile(hype). I believe T.J. Warren is the best SF in this draft. Most polished and able to contribute much quicker.
      T.J. Warren per 40mins stats; 28.1pts. on 52.5 fg% 8.1 rebounds. 2.0 steals.
      Aaron Gordon per 40mins stats; 15.6pts. on 50.6 fg% 10.1 rebounds. 0.8 steals

    • Max Prime

Warren has an amazing running floater which be unstoppable in the NBA. If guards can get it off, imagine a 6.8 player with an already well developed one!!!

  • Max Prime

i think Beasley will be offered more money somewhere else. I’m making my pitch to the Lakers to pick him up. We are in dire need of a SF. The Lakers can manage to get T.J. Warren, Jordan Bachynski and DeAndre Kane in the draft. With the Beasley pick up, A healthy Bryant and Pau resign. We’re back in business

  • Max Prime

T.J. Warren, Jordan Bachynski and DeAndre Kane….These are the Lakers best bets. Trade 7 for more picks. Get these 3 guys.

  • Ace Williams
    • Max Prime

Kobe’s a sociopath….It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Kobe pulls a O.J. Simpson one day.

  • Max Prime

Lakers should be in the Lottery the next 2 to 3 years. I’m certainly not seeing the method to the madness!!!
