Looks like we might dealing with Artest to Lakers news ‘maybe ’til February. Awesome! Sound-off.

ESPN: The Ron Artest to the Lakers talk is more media- and fan-driven than it is Lakers-driven. A source close to the situation told me, “L.A. hasn’t decided that it needs to go out and get Ron. It’s not really committed to making a Ron Artest trade. It would take Kobe really pushing for this deal to give it a really good chance of happening.”

Kobe and Artest are friends, and Kobe wants Artest in L.A., but after last summer’s PR disaster, his front office forays are over. Chances are Artest will start the season in Sacramento, and if the Kings struggle, he could be moved before the February trade deadline.

    arrest isn’t worth it anyway
Am I the only one who would rather keep Lamar til a better deal comes along?
Losing ronny is one thing but trading odom for arrtest will kill our chemistry

  • lalball81

^ I feel the same way. We’ll be a lot better defensively with Bynum back anyway, so there’s no reason to trade away Odom for Artest.

  • Fish Guy

Ditto AndreW-Unless it’s on the cheap, RonRon is a big risk.

Thank GOD, now we get to see the Odom Bynum Gasol frontline! Artest would KILL our chemistry and clog our offense. He is a great defender but he has too many personal issues that will hamper our team. Having Bynum back in the middle will solve a lot of our defensive mishaps!

Artest isn’t worth it. He’s too unstable mentally and emotionally. This report actually confirmed my take on the potential trade and that is Mitch would be stupid to trade LO for Ron.

Have any of you guys watched Ron for the entire last season? One of the things I caught Ron doing is he starts fouling on the defensive end (ie. getting himself into foul trouble) like crazy when his own shot isn’t going in. He’s easily frustrated and he’ll jack up more quick shots when he misses a lot of shots. Of course some of you may argue that he’s an excellent defender when he’s calm but how is that going to be accomplished for the entire 82 games season?

  • LakersFirst

Lakers still lack a perimeter defender. Ariza is a good perimeter defender, but he can’t be the only one.

  • Michael_23

I thought Lakers are focusing on Sasha this week and only Sasha.

    Bring back machine!

As long as they don’t trade LO for him I’m cool. As long as they don’t trade anyone from their starting 5 including Bynum I’m good. Trade Vlad Rad please.

@Michale_23: Word up….Thats what im talking about man!!!!!

  • Raggaemon

If you’re looking to buy a high performance vehicle with a reputation for being temperamental you’ll need deep pockets. In the case of Artest you risk team chemistry, in Lamar we know what we have and it ain’t bad at all.

  • Raggaemon

Health is the key word for the Lakers in the upcoming season. For once I agree with Mitch that having a completely healthy roster and also giving Mbenga the full advantage of a Lakers training camp can only be positives. Unfortunately the Lakers suffer major deficits with Luke Walton, Chris Mihm and Vlad Radmanovic as far as slowness of foot defensively.

    Keep Odom ;D.

Except Odom will have to do some work at the SF position >_<.

How can you people guarantee he will ruin team chemistry? Are you fortune tellers? They said the same about Dennis Rodman when he first signed with the bulls, the guy is cancer, he will ruin team chemistry, etc…. In fact, he was 10X more unstable than Artest. We all saw how that experiment worked out.

Artest respects Kobe and Phil. Will he still have an outbreak here or there? Probably, but so did Rodman but the bottom line is this. Defense wins championships. That’s what Rodman brought and that’s what Artest brings. You think Paul Pierce would have a straight path to the basket with Artest guarding him?? Hell no.

The duo of Artest and Kobe will be the closest thing to Jordan and Pippen.

Why won’t this trade talk just die?!?!?!?!?!?!!? The only thing the Lakers are going to do acquisition whys is deal with Sasha and bring someone to replace Turiaf. So lets close the books on Artest until the 09-10 season and concentrate on Kobe and Team USA right now :)

  • http://myspace.com/brittnay678 Brittnay

And how can anyone guarantee that a Odom, Gasol, Bynum front court will be the best one in YEARS. Huh David?

  • Short Diezel

Brittnay you look too hot to disagree with, but please tell me what skills Odom posesses (CONSISTENTLY) that will make him successful at Small Forward and ultimately and asset for the team at that position

If we choose to keep Odom over Artest, which I think is insane, Odom should come off the bench for Pau at Power Forward and start Ariza

    SASHA (hopefully)

  • VoiceofReason

Alright guys dont be ridiculous. Kobe would never allow Artest to ruin our team chemistry. I’m glad this trade isnt going down. I’d rather see Artest play with the Kings and then sign with the Lakers when hes a free agent. Lakers do have a sharp defensive team with someone like Bynum in the middle. I’ve been watching and studying the game for years and I know that my boy Odom would be a great fit for the 3 as well. He can work on his jumper a little. He has everything you want in a player. Thats ridiculous how some people say hes a bad defender the mans a above average defender especially with those long arms. I dont know about you guys but I’m happy we keep to see:

What Lakers need to do is resign Sasha and sign that guy from the Raptors whose a very good back up as well. I wouldnt mind trading for Deng but as long as we keep all of our starters I’m fine with that.

You can’t guarantee it, I never said that you can.

  • einyo

    artest sucks a fatty

  • Salty

Obviously the smart thing to do considering they have to at least see how the Odom-Gasol-Bynum frontcourt will actually work.

  • M0Z

They will give it half a season to see if LO fits with Gasol and Bynum before looking elsewhere.

  • True Lakers Fan

Brittnay is right guys I mean we don’t honestly know that how our 3 big guys will do I say that we wait till February and then CONSIDERING but personally I think it will work cause LO has really been constant with Pau and Bynum is only 20 years old so u know hes knee will be better and ya LO was struggling during the finals but u guys has to remember it was his first finals appearance and i kno that u guys kno that emotion was paying a huge factor in it soo if I was the Lakers i will wait but some of us soo called “fans” r too damn impatient that we cant enjoy our team that was only 2 games WITHOUT Bynum from Finals soo please guys wait

No more waitin’,fellas.Mitch has to get on the ball RIGHT NOW!Others teams are making MAJOR moves and have scouted our Lakers really well, which is why everyone is STACKIN’ the interior with bigs.

Every year we go in with the same crap(Vlad,Mihm,Luke,etc.).Yeah,Lakers went to the Finals but they didn’t WIN,IT’S TIME TO WIN and the only way to do that is to SHAKE THINGS UP A BIT,remember Boston beat us twice….with Bynum.

[Comment ID #46530 Will Be Quoted Here]

wow, looks like people sound like they’re high on drugs again. Kill chemistry? Are you kidding? And you would rather keep Odom’s inconsistency? You think we’ll be better defensively with Bynum? Hold the thought. The Lakers have not been a defensive team for like a decade, and you think they will magically become one next season? Unreal. Remember defense IS NOT a sum of each player’s individual defensive skills. Great defense is when a team plays together like a unit!
