According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, the Lakers have inquired about New York Knicks G Iman Shumpert.

Shumpert, a 6’5″ combo guard in his third season with the Knicks, is averaging 6.7 ppg on 37.9% shooting, 2.0 apg, and 4.3 rpg in just under 28 mpg this season.

An athletic guard and an above average defender, Shumpert could add some depth to the Lakers injury-depleted backcourt.

This news comes just after Kobe Bryant‘s post-game comments following the Lakers win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday:

The Lakers are also said to be interested in another Knicks player: C Tyson Chandler.

The Lakers did not inquire about Chandler when they called about Shumpert, but they are weighing the possibility of a Pau Gasol-for-Chandler trade, according to sources.

Broussard, however, reports that no trade of Shumpert is imminent at this time.
