2006-07: Averaged 13.5 points, 10.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds for Beijing Aoshen of the ABA. Named to 2007 All-ABA First Team.

ANOTHER PG kinda suspicious??!?!?….KG???

• LakerNation1

im gonna say…cool.

im probably the only guy here who doesnt like to bash every damn thing there is to bash about. so…yeah. cool.

• kisofdeath

another guard?

trash

(SOON you-AH)

Hey Kobe, “SOON you-AH” gonna be outta here.

HATE this pick.

:(

• JSAHMAD

im getting sick to my stomach…

derrick byars was still on the board…

wow….

• KEEPbynum

i think gasol from spain would have been great at 40 and then sun yue at 48 would have been cool. but i still stand by saying that i think crittenton will be traded

• Lakers305

@LakerNAtion1
LOoks like Bitch Kupcake shitted on you after you stood up for him.

• lakerfan_24

i dont know to much on this pick but it looks okay. i wanted to get green from florida. i know we dont need another gaurd but we might trade young players to twolves if get kg. just sharing my thoughts.marc gasol is still up on the board and with this pick it makes me wonder that a trade is on its way landing a big player maybe kg i hope

• kb24 kg21=gold

something is fishy, another guard?

the guys in laker management are either pulling a big time trade or are just plain idiots.

• http://hzmdesigns.com hZm

YELLOW MAAAMBA!!!!!!!

• kb24allday

Stop saying we are making room for kg… we are not doing anything… nada… finished… soo yue what the hell is that??

• fred0s

A 6’9″ Guard? Wow, if the Lakers keep him and he does develop, he can be a pretty useful player. Think about it, someone of that size who might be able to play many positions could be an asset. Maybe he is not the greatest player, but he does seem to be a good prospect.

• http://www.kb24.com darkice18
something is fishy, another guard?

THEY’re PLAIN IDIOTS lololol!!!

• kb24

ANOTHER FUCKIN GAURD. WE COULDVE ATLEAST GOT MARK GASOL AND DRAW PAU GASOL

• Ricky

wtf!! what a strange pick to take at 40! i don’t really like this pick cause he doesn’t look like nba material, a 6’9 guard that’s ONLY 205 pounds. too scrawny for the nba, considering his height, he should be at least 20 pounds heavier. i don’t like the pick to be honest, and its another pg, and we need to draft a big man damn it!!

geez, i hope mitch can make up for this #40 draft pick by trading for garnett or o’neal cause if either one of those two are on board with the lakers, then everything else is cool with me.

• kb24allday

most definately they are idiots… i got off work early to watch this… we get yue… big move kupchak strikes again.

• JSAHMAD

you think they are getting guards because of the idea of kobe leaving next season?

• nate

hey! he’s not that bad! check out his profile. he looks more like a SG than a PG cause he stands at 6-9. he almost had a quadruple-double in 1 game

• http://www.kb24.com darkice18

WOW GS WARRIORS ARE FUCKIN SMART!!! THEY GOT A KG LIKE PLAYER IN BRANDON WRIGHT!!!!bye bye jason Richardson time for you to play for MJ’s dumbass team HAHAHAHA

• nate

this guy looks good and all, but why didn’t they pick Marc Gasol?

yeah he sure did. F mitch kupchak…burn in hell cupcake.

dude whatever. u can be all negative about everything for all u want. im just gonna relax, wait and hope for good news, and not speculate on every damn thing. hes the damn GM, face it. im not saying i love the guy, but shit hes the one thats dealing with GMs to try to get KG. thats why i stick up for the guy, bc hes the GM. he can suck for all i care, but im not gonna bitch and moan all damn day.

im not attacking any one of u, im just advising u guys to calm down before u blow a nerve. the more emotional u get, the more disappointed and hurt ull be later on if shit dont work out.

• kb24 kg21=gold

maybe lakers can redeem themselves by drafting him at 48. at least then we might be able to entice pau gasol in the future. plus, if we do trade bynum and brown… we’re gonna be a bit short on centers.

• nate

@Ricky. Corey Brewer was the #7 pick and is 6-8 and only 185

• http://www.kb24.com darkice18

maybe mitch chose 2 guards so he can make them play against eachother in the training vs Farmar too and see whos the best PG..and the others might get traded for KG,Pau,JO?!?!?!?!? IDEAS???

• Rpoc

Omfg.

• kisofdeath

is that gasol paus brother?

• _HuStLiN_PhEnOm_

The Hustla is smelling something. (GSW ARE DUmBASSES)

• DMX

WOW! hopefully they use him for a trade.

LakerNation1 is right

gasol, a good choice.

It’s been said by Mike D’Antoni that the trade rumors weren’t as serious as the media made it. If it’s true that Garnett has been traded, it’s possible that the Lakers might have acquired him or that the rumors are non-existent.

• kyler

hell trade luke

• Ricky

haha, that video of yue sun was nice. watch out everyone!! it’s the chinese magic johnson, haha!! :D good pick at #48 by selecting marc gasol, perhaps he can be bait to lure his older brother pau gasol to the lakers. and at least we got a big man, after selecting 2 guards. with the lakers possibly shipping out bynum and/or brown through trades, it’s good we selected another big man for insurance purposes to help fill the front line.

not a bad draft overall, but could have been better i suppose. heck, just go out and fucking get garnett or o’neal and it’s all good!!

I dont understand why we drafted a PG. I thought we have that guy from Greece in the bag pretty much, and then we have Farmar Still. Maybe its all trade bait…thats what i think.

• LAalltheway

So the Randolph to NY deal went through already?

• Lakers305

Why didn’t we pursue Zach Randolph??? we could of had him for nothing right? I mean The knicks basically got him for nothing.

——————————-
NOw we can sit back and maybe force Indiana’s hands because they dont have any pick. They are asking too much for O’Neal and they are desperate to get rid of him which the Lakers know too.

• Lakers305

@gabe
GS warriors’offense doesn’t really need Richardson, they only need players who can shoot. But they lacked an inside presence which they now fill with Wright.

Michael JOrdan just proves how stupid he is again. How could you give up Wright for Richardson when you have a proven Scorer in Wallace?? not only that, Richardson is not a franchise player. Why do you think the Warriors failed so much until BDiddy became the man??? RIchardson is not fit to be #1 Option.

• http://thrrhtrh joge

marc gasol will be and allstar one day and it might make pau gasol to get traded to the los angelis lakers. Not big on the other pick at 40? but another gaurd might mean big trade is Garnett a possibility?

• LakerKobe4Life

The 19th pick was a good pick up, but the 40th and 48th pick are both just sooooooo HORRIBLE. Anyways, the Randolph trade to the Knicks, it worked out for the both of them, because Randolph is a cancer and he’ll feel right at home in a cancer organization like the New York Knicks, now the other sad part is, that they got Steve Francis, another cancer, so Blazers totally lost in this deal, although they do get Channing Frye, they still lost in this deal. Also, Golden State probably made that move in an attempt to get KG, but I still do think the Lakers can offer a better deal than Golden State will offer.

Mo williams/Farmar
Kobe/Javaris/Mo Evans
Vlade/Luke

lakers305- thanks, but I think you misinterpreted my post.. Only the last paragraph was my post. Someone else had suggested in an earlier post that the Warriors were going to put together a package built around Wright and send it to Minny for KG. I totally understand why Golden State was trying to ditch Richardson and his large contract.

My question was simply, could GS theoretically trade Wright again to Minny, or is it forbidden to trade a draft pick twice under NBA rules. If anyone has an answer, please let me know

you think minnesota will want crap like sasha and a phantom draft pick like sun yue?

at the bare minimum, they would trade us garnett and ask us to take one of their mediocre point guards (hudson or jaric) for odom/bynum/brown along with perhaps farmar or crittenton. but even with that, it would take a desperate wolves management to make that deal.

blahh… we need to hope for some kind of laker miracle to happen.

I can’t really answer that because I’ve never seen it happen before. But it was just my implications from previous articles saying that the bobcats were willing to be the facilitators in a kg trade. Based on an interview of the vp I don’t think they are trully going after garnett, and it didn’t make sense to me either, it would be smart for them to go young. :)

But after an interview with the vp it seems that they were just trying to make a move for the future. I never thought pursuing garnett was a smart move for them in the first place

• http://www.kb24.com darkice18

yo guys look at this it talks about Crittenton and Sue Yue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2yZ3KEHcwo

• gstoneballer

ya showtime no bs

• LAalltheway

” Jason Richardson is headed to the Charlotte Bobcats along with the draft rights to Jermareo Davidson for the draft rights to Brandan Wright. Warriors sources have yet to comment. League sources have indicated that the Warriors had originally hoped to make a move for Kevin Garnett, but a deal with Minnesota was not in place when the Warriors triggered the deal for Wright. Warrior sources have also confirmed that they plan to keep their first round pick, Marco Belinelli.”

Saw that on hoopsworld.com

Sounds like we still may be the #1 candidates for KG?

• http://www.kb24.com darkice18

mitch was on AM570 and sounded like he wantsa keep all the picks and rebuild….?!?!?

• l@kers4life

i gree the 19 pick will be part of the lakers and the other 2 would end up traded or in the d-league. i like better papaloukas better then the 19pick. papa plays like manu from the spurs. check him out at youtube and judge for your self. you agree or not!!

• gstoneballer

if he wants to rebuild let kobe go.. why make hiim suffer with the laker fans through a rebuilding processs

• KOBEISKING

stupid mitch we’re the leaders in the kg race and he says that what a dumbass

• KRAZYKEVIN

Dear God,
I wish KG would come to Los Angeles LAKERS.
This would be the greatest thing you have every done.
Please GOD.

• l@kers4life

BUSS should fire mitch and have THE MAGIC MAN(magic johnson) run the show, i know he would have traded for kidd in aheart beat.

• KOBEISKING

if we could trade gms which gm would be trADED 1ST HMMMMMMMMM-_-

• kb24lightsout

Man y does evey1 gang up on Mitch?
everthing he says/does is criticized
hes made some good moves and yeah he has made some mistakes but just be patient.i think he will make some good choices and it all starts at the draft which was solid.

• http://WWW.AOL.COM FOXXY

IT STILL DOESNT LOOK GOOD!!!!

• kb24lightsout

how DOESENT it look good when we got good value in the draft to either keep or trade?

• LAalltheway

I agree, kb24lightsout, Mitch (as well as many other GMs) I think takes more blame than he deserves. Many of these decisions, for example if we decide to rebuild instead of go for an immediate contender, are ultimately Buss’ decision. But with some of the deals he’s made, I feel uneasy with him working the KG deal. All I know is, if we miss out on KG, I wouldn’t want to be that guy. Fact is, we’ll never really know if it was his fault. I think West would have gotten it done.

• kb24lightsout

yeah and if we do get KG or Oneal then how will he be criticized?
he wont.
well i hope to see KG or Oneal in a Lakers uniform ASAP

Yue Sun :

Strengths: Unusual height for his position, terrific athlete, excellent jumper and quickness … With 6-9 height, he has the ability to play the point guard position … Decent ball handling skills, talented passer, outstanding court vision, good at finding open teammates … Very unselfish with pass first mentality, great fast break player and play-maker, accurate bounce passer … Penetrates well with a good ability to attack the hoop, quick first step … Takes advantage of being left handed catching opponents off guard … Likes to dunk, can do windmill/360 dunks easily … Can shoot anywhere inside the NBA 3-point line … Nice shooting stroke, soft touch, high release points on his shot … Can guard positions from 1 to 4 , taking advantage of his height and length to pressure his opponents to adjust their shooting rhythm … Great lateral speed on defense ; good reflexes as well as leaping ability make him a good shot blocker … He performs as a help defender and even a rebounder under the basket for his team. 2.5 blks,1.9 stls and 7 rebs per game, the numbers reflect his defensive contribution … His versatility gives him a chance to get Quadruple-double statistics in games, granted it’s the ABA…. Shows a great passion to win other than his stats … In addition, his age is not in question.

Weaknesses: Physically weak like most young Chinese players …His ball handling and ball protection need improvement for the NBA level … As the main distributer (a team high 6.7 assists per game) , he usually saw the most pressure from their opponents, getting doubled sometimes. 4 Turnovers per game indicates that he should better learn to deal with tough defense … He relies on his left hand too much , though he is making progress on his right handed ball handling skills … To be a NBA player, his shooting skills still need work, less stability from downtown (39% FG, 25% 3pt FG ) Raw 1 on 1 skills … Underdeveloped post skills, with his size learning to post up smaller wing players would be a big advantage for him … Some concern about his ability to guard fast NBA guards …

Marc Gasol:

Strengths: Physically Gasol has great upper body strength … Like his brother has a great set of soft hands … Does a great job of establishing himself in the post … Fundamentally he is as sound as they come in the post … Displays a rare combination of power and soft shooting touch … It is not uncommon for Gasol to overpower his man and then shoot the ball off the glass … Back to basket skills are quite advanced … Owns a good assortment of moves as he can shoot the jump hook, turnaround jumper plus spin off his man for the soft finger roll … Quality rebounder in his area who does a solid job of boxing out opposing players … Hard player to double team as he keeps the ball high and away from guards and has the court vision to quickly kick the ball out to open teammates … Enjoys physical contact in the lane where he does an excellent job of drawing fouls from opposing defenders … Shows the ability to absorb contact and finish with relative ease … Does a good job of denying his man position in the post … Intelligent player with a great work ethic to improve …

Weaknesses: Unlike Pau, Marc is a below average athlete … Heavy legged player who will need to improve his foot speed to play in the NBA … Lacks fluidity in his movements as he is a bit mechanical … Must continue to work on conditioning his body as he appears to be carrying a little extra weight … A focus on strength training could improve his overall mobility greatly … Lacks the explosiveness to be even a decent shot blocker at the NBA level … Not a very good rebounder out of position, as he possesses below average lateral quickness … Post defense has improved greatly this year but still struggles when having to guard top athletes … Offensively his execution in the post is slow which allows opposing defenders to recover quickly, must learn to make moves more decisively … Can be a little foul prone … Not a great help defender by any means as he is often late on the play … Even though Gasol is a late bloomer who has yet to reach his potential he’s made big strides in the past year …

• lakersforlife77

I got to admit I got caught up in the moment and a little cranky because we didn’t get kg. But from a regular draft night standpoint: we really did bring in some good talent and I am VERY happy about the acquisition of Marc Gasol. Overall it was a decent night, not epic or amazing, but decent. There seems to be no standing offers for kg and all the suns trades were denied by D’antoni, and were most likely ESPN generated for ratings(stupid assholes), so we still have a chance to make a push. And even though my heart was crushed when golden state went for brandan wright, they made it clear that they were not doing it just for kg, and i think mullen knos that going for kg wouldnt be a good idea for their offer would have to be steep and a bdiddy/kg combo isn’t going very far. With that said, keep your heads up guys :) . I know it’s tough to do, I already gave up way too early, but we still have many options.

• LakerKobe4Life

I’m still not giving up on this KG trade, I’m continuing to stay optimistic about it. The draft I don’t care about because they won’t be immediate impact players, but the 19th pick will have alittle more playing time. That guy seems like a smart PG, if they said he needs to work on his decision making, I’m sure he’ll grow with the Lakers to become a really good backup to Farmar, it’s a good thing that they both have college basketball experience which makes them alittle more mature. Again, I’m really trying to stay optimistic and I really do think the Lakers have the best deal on the table for KG.

• lakersforlife77
your whole roster is gone[DUH!]
what if he gets iinjured
what are you gonna have 4 the future because you gave away all of your young talent
who knows if we can even win a championship with KG because the West is a tough confrence.
Given the situation our bench is not as important as keeping Kobe Bryant in a laker uniform. And just because we enter rebuilding does not mean we’re going to ever restore what we had. If entering rebuilding guaranteed you a championship in the future every1 would have a trophy by now. We could go 30 years without a championship, we could go a decade without a playoff win. just think about it, we have to think now, and keeping kobe is more important than our future at this point in time

• LAalltheway

We all got a little ahead of ourselves, but we’ve been through a lot of bullshit this week, and we had high anticipations for this day. I’m with you guys, lakersforlife and lakerkobe4life. We are still the front runners for KG, and maybe getting this deal done later rather than earlier will be to our benefit. The T-Wolves are running out of options.

• LaKeRkB

yes i completely agree minnys options are fading away and it seems dat we r da only ones who have a formadible deal to offer.

• “Billy” Kupchak

Sun Yue is MUCH BETTER than you guys think! He’s a perfect PG for the Lakers. Take a look at the following 8-9 minute clip of him playing & you will TOTALLY CHANGE your opinion of him.

• Kupchak or Kupshit?

Kobe will stay and why is Kupchak looking for players with wannabe Steve Nash abilities: Papaloukas/Sun Yue… those two early first round exits still fresh in your mind cupcake? Is Nash in your nightmares yet?

I wouldn’t mind a lineup of:
Papaloukas/Bryant/Odom/Oneal/Mihm

If you think about it, that team is HUGE!!! Kobe will be the shortest guy on the team… All we have to do is speed up Papaloukas, Mihm, and Oneal and we’d be good to go. The hardest part is getting Indianna to accept the fact that we’re not trading Odom and Bynum. I’d definitely prefer that lineup over

Papaloukas/Bryant/Walton/KG/Mihm

BECAUSE I have a feeling Cupcake is gonna go on vacation after he lands KG thinking he has done his job…

I say this because if you look at his resume, he has shown no understanding of the triangle and will not make any moves that would offer decent support for kb24 and kg. Maybe we’ll get out of the first round with kb24 and kg, but we are by no means contenders. But hey, its never bad to be optimistic. =)

• Rpoc

Right, a highlight reel will totally sway my opinion on him…

• ryan

sarcasm perhaps? lol.

• JSAHMAD

he is the chinese magic johnson…. supposedly lolll

i like marc gasol…but he has no aggressiveness whatsoever…

we didnt need javaris.. hopefully we got him because he was the best talent left..and we trade him?….

we will see..

• http://www.getgarnett.com Rok

why didn’t they pick byars.. at 40

• http://www.getgarnett.com Rok

but Yue Sun ain’t a PG .. he’s 6-9 dude

• JSAHMAD

magic was a big pg…

• Lakers305

I dont know, He looks nice in the highlight. But I’ll only judge him once i see him against Nba players. and i’d like to know what’s his Assist/TO ratio.

• Rpoc
magic was a big pg…
There’s a gigantic reason Magic was the #1 pick and this guy wasn’t even on the radar.

• E-ROC

Should have taken Derrick Byars at #40, then taken Ron Lewis or DJ Strawberry. Sun Yue can’t shoot to save his life. Where is he going to play? I like Marc Gasol, but I thought Ron Lewis or DJ Strawberry were better players. Hopefully, we can sign Mario Boggans or Cartier Martin or Craig Bradshaw or Jamal Tatum or Trey Johnson or Curtis Sumpter or Kyle Visser. There is no way we should be done with the draft. We can’t be. Any of those players mention above could be an upgrade over Sun Yue or Marc Gasol.

• lakerfan81

people are ignoring the fact that most likely neither of the 2nd round picks will make the team.

• gcdeen

Just being realistic and looking at the history of draft picks through the NBA, most 2nd rounders never even make it. (unless you’re san antonio) For the most part they all end up not making the team, playing in a developmental team or something else. I’m not looking for the Sun Yue or Marc Gasol to do anything for our team or even make the team. Yeah, the highlight reels of the Sun Yue are impressive, looks similar to Lamar’s game, pretty good passer and court vision but that’s against subpar talent. At least by drafting gasol, maybe his brother will want to come to L.A, that would be an upgrade at center. Whatever happens, looks like we probably won’t know anything until the trade deadline in February, ’08.
McHale is as scared to make a trade as Kupchak. Leaving it up to those two to get a deal done is wishful thinking at best. That’s probably a good thing for the creators of this website as they’ll have it running until February’s trade deadline. As for us Laker fans, it basically sucks. Yeah, I’ll keep the faith, but I’m not going to pay my hard earned money to see them in person or buy any jerseys to keep the Buss’ happy.
Mitch needed to make a move, no matter how small it was, just to show that he was serious about getting things done. The #19 pick had some value and we could have potentially used it to get Cook or Sasha out.

• lakerfan81

gcdeen. I agree the 19th pick could have been used to make a trade. I will assume that it was tried but nothing came to fruition. It is really easy as a fan, myself included, to say should have done this or that. But it is entirely different as a GM to actually get a trade made. Besides the pick can still be used to make a trade. Crittenton has a fairly big up-side and teams will be willing to make trades to acquire him. A lot of people were expecting him to go in the 13-15 range. And lots of teams are trying to rebuild and need a PG for the future. So I am going to hope that something will still be done to make the team better.
