From the sound of it, it seems as if Phil is ready to give Ariza not only more minutes, but a much larger role on this squad. And so far, Ariza has really shined for us in the trade doing the small things, while also giving us a solid, consistent source offensively…

L.A. Times: Then, too, there’s the development of Trevor Ariza, who is beginning to get some serious playing time now that he has had a chance to practice with the team, learn the offense and ramp up his defensive efforts.

As the first player off the bench Thursday, Ariza played 17 minutes and had six points, three rebounds and two assists, sustaining a progression that has won approval from Coach Phil Jackson.

“How he’s going to flesh out his role, I’m not sure,” Jackson said before the game. “But what we’d like to see him be able to do is be a real energy source for us coming off the bench, someone that can infuse our team and maybe be a starter.”

Or more.

I’m not making him solely a bench player,” Jackson said.

    He does look pretty good

  • DoDoBallz

A starter then what does that say about Odom. Think about it we are
going to make one more move don’t know who but we are going to make a move.

    I like it
    he looks comfortable.
His defensive presence is needed especially
    with good offensive teams..
Hes a pretty good free throw shooter too
with the exception of those pair last night

  • IMmichael

he just needs work on his mid range shooting

Ariza is a great defensive player and brings needed energy and athleticism to this Laker team. I hope to seem him get more playing time, excel as a laker, and throw it down on everyone!

  • LakersFirst (Change) (Close)

    His jump shooting is awful!!

  • LD2k

I don’t mind his jumper though; he’s never been able to shoot.

He sucks why do you think the Magic traded him?

  • drew

Ariza can help this team with his defense and he is aggresssive on the offensive end…he looks to cut and penetrate and is very active on the boards….i like the athletic ability he brings to the table.

What an improvement Ariza is over flat-footed always parked at the 3 point arc “Cookie”.

Now if we could get rid of the “vertatile” Lame-ar. I am so sick of watching his horrible outside shooting and his constant falling over after driving right into his defender and not having anywhere to go. We need to FLUSH ODUMB!!!

    i agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Jcritt.=star

What in the world happened! Phil puts him in for 3 minutes and takes him out before he could even get the ball. Pathetic coaching. His inability to use his bench will be a downfall for the lakers this season. Keep lamar fresh and play ariza. Hey, Ariza can definetly score so its worth some more playing time!

  • drew

Ariza can score yeah but he is better at defense and we could of used Ariza in the game guarding Baron Davis down the stretch….I mean if Ariza can stick wit Iverson he can stick wit Baron Davis.

The 3 that Baron hit at the end of the game would have been a lot harder trying to shoot over the long arms of Ariza.
