For years, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has ducked the glaring spotlight of the Los Angeles media. After another demoralizing home loss to a championship caliber team, he finally broke the silence to NBA.com writer Scott Howard-Coope in a piece posted on NBA.com a couple of hours ago. Here are a couple notable excerpts from Kupchak:

“Regarding a trade, I may have to. I’m not saying that I’ve made calls today or I’ll make them tomorrow. But I just don’t think that we’re playing as well as our talent level should allow us.”

“I try to be as objective as possible, but I’m concerned that our performance is not living up to our talent level. Our record is certainly OK. But we’ve lost a bunch of home games. We’ve lost a couple of big games at home. And to me, those are red flags.”

You can read the entire column, and several additional quotes from Kupchak, here.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of our major piece is traded (hint hint Gasol). The mind-set isn’t quite right. We have enough talents to play much better than we are playing.

    • cliff

This might sound silly, but I think our biggest need is the vintage funny guy/team cheerleader… The John Salley, Damon Jones, Mark Madsen, Sasha Vujacic, Adam Morrison type guy. Bring back Ronny!

    • LakersThe2010Champs

How about Artest (6 mils) + Odom (8 mils) for Melo? That would be equal money and a fair trade. If I were Denver, I’d be happy.

      • SHOWTIME4EVA

RON?AND LAMAR? THATS NOT FAIR AND DAMN RIGHT DENVER WOULD BE HAPPY!IT’S GIVING WAY MORE THAN YOU GET.

    • LakersThe2010Champs

The real problem I think is Phil Jackson. Too bad we can’t trade him. The Lakers got top players from many teams (Odom from Miami, Gasol from Memphis, Artest from Kings) but Phil can’t put them together. Rather, he continues to allow Kobe to hog the ball and take everyone out of rythm. One can argue that he’s had championships under the belt. But I do not see these guys are playing at a fraction of their potential in Phil’s system.

      • Laker101

Phil Jackson the problem…hhhmmm…think about that statement for a minute and just let it sit. The guy with 11 championships going for his 12th cant put the talent together on a team that just came off of winning two championships with in as head coach, come on now we could come up with smarter answers than this.

      • LakersAllTheeWay!!!

artest(ROCKETS) NOT KINGS, HINT HINT….DONT TALK BOUT PHIL, YOU DONT KNOW WHAT U TLKN BOUT.

  • Don’t judge me but

I think it’s time to let Bynum go. It was nice dreaming of the capacity of potential he could hold but I haven’t seen anything significant.

    • ahuh

      agree

  • lakerville213

    gasol for melo(ahem)

    whoa who said that?

  • SHOWTIME4EVA

    HEADS ARE GONNA ROLL

  • BG

lets trade for some lock-down defenders at the point. bynum is always being called for fouls that could be avoided. ron-ron couldnt stop people like he used to. i wouldnt be surprised if we lose one of rookies, a first rounder and ron-ron

  • Elijah

We need someone who wants contact under the basket..bynum plays like he’s 6’10 not seven foot.

    • LakersAllTheeWay!!!

      Naw thats more of Gasol…

  • http://www.jackyang.info Jack

I don’t know why you guys are complaining about Bynum. He’s been playing much better (and consistently) in comparison to Gasol for the past month. Bynum doesn’t shy away from contact. Gasol seems unmotivated for a very long time now…

  • http://rivalmedia.tv chris

i don’t know how i’d feel about melo, but that could be a good thing. where woudl ron ron go? he’s needed.

    • LakersAllTheeWay!!!

      we also have barnes

  • edsel pinoy 2

I think Gasol being traded is a bigger possibility than Bynum’s. Kuptchak always keep the younger one (i.e. Kobe Shaq?). But something tells me, Odom will be in the mix. I guess the wear and tear of Gasol showed off earlier than expected. This is the result of abusing him down low in the early part of the season, averaging almost 40 min/game. We needed a Gasol reliever, a big body, not as athletic, but perhaps, better in the defensive department. And bynum is injury prone. What keeps him in Kuptchaks set box is a potential to be another laker great big man.

Honestly, the lakers look just as tired when I see them play. Especially late in the important waning moments of the game. It’s just mileage. We needed a better pg right now and a better(healthier) center. That’s the solution I see to righting this battle-rattled ship.

Winning in the end, takes all the frustration, disappointments away.

    • hey

THANK YOU! You’re like the only one who agrees with the PG situation. Everyone else seems to think that its not an issue.

      • kobe-wan kenobi

you guys dont understand a pg is not useful in the triangle,
there is no classic pg needed in the triangle

the ball has to be in kobe s hand not a pg
otherwise kobe will not be effective

        • Smexii

We don’t need a PG on the offensive end, but on the defensive end. Often we’ve seen Fisher being burned by a speedy PG and the scrappiness of Steve Blake hasn’t been there.

          • More Cookies 4 Kob

            Enter: Kirk Hinrich

      • LakersAllTheeWay!!!

We hella need a pg, like a daron or something cuzz blake and cutting it.

  • Kings of the West

It seems that Ron Ron, Bynum, or Gasol might be traded…I kinda what Gasol and Ron for Melo and Nene…but that’s just me

    • kobe-wan kenobi

that would be my ideal trade, even though risky,
      worst defense
and who knows how kobe and melo would play together they both need the ball

gasolf for blake griffin (i know impossible) would be much better
or anyone not called kobe for howard (if howard says he wont sign with orlando and wants to go to la)

  • matthew

odom is not gonna be traded.. he is need ed off the bench
and why would gasol be traded? he is the reason why we have been in the finals 3 yrs in a row
maybe ron.. not sure if anyone will take his contract.. but we may need him so he can guard the top small forwards.

at best, maybe we get a minor trade done.. but who knows.. strangers thing have happend.

    u guys agree>! sound off

    • Kings of the West

True but Gasol doesn’t have what the Lakers need right now. I mean, you have the Spurs, Heat, Celtics, heck, even the Bulls.

      • Laker101

I think if we were to trade Gasol it would be a huge mistake. He’s had his struggles this year but I dont think trading him would be the answer. He’s got too much talent to just simply let him go. Ron Artest is probably on the trading block but even then we need somebody to replace him in guarding the better wing players that Kobe cant guard throughout the whole game. I think what the Lakers need is to get to the playoffs. Their a 7 game team, built for the playoffs.

        • CM

TRADE RON RON FOR TREVOR ARIZA!!! SIMPLE!

    • ilikebasketball

ron is the likely to get traded of our best players.

      i agree.

      STEPHEN CURRY would be great

  • Day

I wish Josh Smith was on the Lakers =)

  • Kings of the West

23 days till trade deadline…DO IT MITCH

  • Inverse

I really hope Mitch doesn’t do anything stupid…Sure everyone wants to win these games, but i haven’t given up…truth is these losses don’t even bother me. Maybe it’s because I know how good this Laker team really is. Having Barnes and Ratliff back in the rotation will help out a lot. The way I see it, if the Lakers play up to their true potential, there is no one in the league that can match their size, versatility, and talent. If anything, the only thing this team really needs is a consistent shooter that will spread the court and let the bigs operate down low, but nothing drastic like “trade pau”!! C’mon, remember who helped get the lakers to 3 straight final appearances. W/O pau, theres no kobe, so where’s the loyalty here?!?

    • Day

Business is business, even if you help(or even are the reason) get us to the finals for the past 10 years, if you aren’t doing it this year then you will potentially be traded.

    • matthew

you know wsupp.. trading pau is not even in the plan right now..

      • SHOWTIME4EVA

        I wouldn’t be so sure ?

    • kobe-wan kenobi

      loyalty?
      really?
pau gets 17 fukking millions a year, that is the loyalty!
he HAS TO FUKKING DEFEND AND REBOUND, which he doesnt, and stop complaining when kobe tries to take over a game when pau cant do shit!
so i say ship his ass off to get some player that actually puts effort

      • Inverse

You gotta point but still to give up on a guy mid season when hes been revered as one of the best power forwards in the game for the past 2 years?! Really? C’mon! I’ll tell you one thing, when Pau is on his game and hitting those left handed baby hooks, or dribble middle right handed swoop shot, theres no one in the league that can stop him..NO ONE! So i think laker nation needs to take a deep breath, and enjoy this year’s journey towards winning a championship. Afterall, this is hollywood, we gotta make things interesting

        • ilikebasketball

          i agree.

but fuking Jackson needs to give him more rest during games.

i thought he’d get more rest once Bynum came back, but he’s still playing 40 plus minutes a night.

      • jaydubb415

I feel you fuck loyaty ” there is no loyalty”this is about winning and with the lakers its about winning championships honestly for all the people saying its stupid to trade pau.Do you honestly think pau can out play out hustle out defend KG in the finals ” hell the fuck naw’] lets trade pau and ron ron for dwight howard

  • Day

Actually, GS said they would trade Curry if the deal was right…. =)

Whoah… Calm down people, 2nd in the West (1st in their division) so far. Last year the Lakers lost 10 of their last 22 games prior to the playoffs. Results were pretty good, right?

I’m not totally against a trade, but to talk about getting rid of 1-2 of their core is ridiculous right now. being in the Finals 3 years in a row can make it pretty hard finding your motivation on a game to game basis. It sounds like an excuse but it is what it is.

Also, their record last year, so far, nearly matches what it is right now at this point. The Spurs are just on “a tear” at the moment. I just don’t think in a 7 game set, that a team will win 4 of them against the Lakers. Really, the only team I’m worried about is the Celtics with their size.

    • ilikebasketball

the spurs have been on a tear since oct. they’ve only lost 7 games.

but i do agree with you.

there is no way that our core starters are leaving.

but i really wouldnt be surprised with how we are playing that we wouldn’t try to bring in some fresh blood in the pg position. Blake has really been a dissapointment in every aspect. i remember him being so great in portland, too. But he’s shown me nothing.

i’d like a trade of Blake and artest for someone that has speed on d, and a 3pt threat a big plus. who is that?

    • jaydubb415

Every year is different and this laker team knows phil ain’t here after this season this is a older team and their will be changes. Now you would think that would push a older team to do something special 3-peat kind of like boston who’s trying to win their 2nd.Th different between them and us is we have some pussys on our team(hate to say it but its true) and i think laker fans know who is and isn’t.Thats why a defensive trade needs to be made and it has to be a big.I.m sorry but pau is to soft he’s a hell of a talented 7-footer and i wouldn’t trade him bynum needs to go because i honestly think we wouldn’t get the same in return unless its dwight howard.

  • Bbldat257

I tried a trade of Artest and Blake for Nash on the ESPN Trade Machine and it worked.

    • kobe-wan kenobi

      nash is garbage
his defense is the worst in the league
triangle doesnt need a pg, kobe needs the ball

      fukk nash

      • ilikebasketball

we need a pg that can hold up on defense, not for offense. dumbass.

        • Heber

and a point guard that can make open shots. Something fisher does not do on a consistent basis

  • LC09

LOL damnit mitch..now mofos that dont believe in da team will start tradin players…dont give em more to talk about wtffff dude keep it on da down low

  • masalakers

I think Mitch just said this to light a fire on the Lakers just like Jerry West did with the defense comment. Although I do think that it won’t last long, just as the Jerry comment didn’t last. Maybe he did it to get the team ready for the upcoming road trip (which in my opinion will determine if we will make the finals). On the other hand if the Lakers don’t respond by winning games then a trade is inevitable.

      • Nick

As if we would do that. Rondo is the best PG in the league along with Rose and Westbrook and Fisher sucks. As 4 the Bynum Perk comparison.. haha it is simple. A centers job is 2 bang, rebound, set hard screens and be an enforcer. Perk is all of the above. Bynum is a pussy who’s ALWAYS HURT get real with another awful trade u clowns

  • Inverse

If you guys really think Mitch is gonna do anything drastic, you gotta relax. Please, this is just a mere wake up call for the team, and it’s to let them know that no ones spot is safe. Mitch isn’t trading anyone because Jerry buss is an owner that doesn’t panic. Great strategy by mitch

    • jaydubb415

Are dumb or just play that way online ,mitch and throwin up no smoke screens fool and i’m tired of clueless ass ”lakers fans”that jerry and mitch is just using this fake ass ”motivation”to pump up one of the oldest if not the oldest team in the NBA.Changes do need to made this team doesn’t play defense and weve been ” PUNKED”at home against all the top teams (1-5) and some sorry ass teams to.We got soft ass players and thats no bullshit and the top teams knows that ain’t no fake ass motivation can give a coward heart thi is not ”the wizard of oz”.Of course phil will poo-poo this losing as were not panicking thats a front they see the holes on this team and a trade will be made who it is we’ll find out but it will be a trade

  • purple_and_gold

mitch is not going to trade gasol or bynum. if gasol gets traded kobe then is going to ask to be traded aswell. gasol just needs to lock in offense and ron on defense.
if mitch does trade it will be like for luke, the rookies, smith. for someone that brings energy and husle thats what this team is missing.

  • LakersFirst

A lot of players the Lakers could look at. I think the problem with the Lakers is that they don’t have expiring contracts that would be attractive to other teams. With that said, the Lakers may have to roll the dice and give up talent, such as Gasol, LO, Bynum, Artest (if anyone would take his contract), Barnes, Shannon Brown, or even youth such as Ebanks and Caracter.

Melo is a possibilty, but Denver wants to draft picks, expiring contracts and youth. The Lakers don’t have expiring contracts like that of NJ (Troy Murphy) , NY (Eddy Curry) or Houston (Yao). so I don’t know if Denver would trade Melo to L.A.

Chris Paul is a player that the Lakers could look at as they are in dire need of point guard help and he doesn’t seem very satisfied with the state of the Hornets. I don’t know if the Lakers have anything that NO wants. Chris Paul is their franchise so they are going to want a lot. The strategy behind acquiring CP3 is to lure DHoward to the Lakers should he opt out of Orlando after next season.

The Detroit Pistons do have some players that the Lakers could be interested in such as Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince. Tayshaun is especially attractive because he has an expiring contract. He’s a vet and has playoff experience. Hamilton can still play but his contract is a little too long (3 years and around $39M left). I think the Lakers are hoping that the Pistons buy out Hamilton and then they can approach him.

Memphis does have OJ Mayo and Zach Randolph. Rumor has it that they want to trade Mayo and won’t resign Randolph. Mayo if relatively affordable for his talent level and Randolph is an expiring contract.

Kirk Hinrich is another player that the Lakers have always liked but he has an elbow injury.

There are a ton of players that the Lakers could look at, but with the current Lakers squad having multiple years left on their contracts, I’m not sure other teams will want them. Kobe is 32 years old and has lot of miles on his legs so make no doubt about it , the Lakers are looking for their next franchise player.

  • Smexii

Am I the only one that has his eyes geared to Iguodala for Artest and Luke?

    • Nathan

It’s ideal. But people need to go and take a look at how much is left on Lukes contract and measure how realistic that is. Yet this is where this team can benefit from Artest contract which is actually pretty appealing.

      • purple-n-gold

iguodala makes a good fit for the lakers, sent out luke and ebanks or future 1round pick.

      • sweet daddy

i think A.I. would be a good fit in LA, we need more athletic players on the lakers, teams run all over us. i think Granger and foster or the center out of georgtown would be a good fit in LA, hes only 27 and he averages 21 points and 5 rebounds.. i would give up Bynum and one of our younger players . for two players from Indiana.

  • Nathan

Yeah, I can really see this as Kupchack taking a note outa Phil’s book. This just may be to light a fire under this team. I know Gasol has slumped a bit but lets not over react. Lets re-visit the fact that we’ve yet to fall short of the Finals since Gasol’s arrival. If we won that game yesterday by 15, I’d still be saying this could very well be a different story with Barnes comin of the bench and guarding Peirce in the situation that Artest gets injured and DOES only play 22 mins. Lets not forgets Barnes is our 4th qrt. man @ the 3. Our man at the 3 when Artest is NOT injured at that. I got more to add to this but my dads got Double Pneumonia and is hurtin. I hate hospitals with a passion…

    • http://www.jackyang.info Jack

I’m not saying Gasol sucks but he seems content with winning 2 NBA championships. He looks like he doesn’t want to try on offense AND defense.

      • Nathan

Can’t argue that. Gasols a follower, not a leader.

  • Nick

Barnes??? Really? WE WERE MISSING DELONTE AND JERMAINE O’NEAL both who are substantially better than Barnes. Get a fucking clue u godamn goons, this ain’t ur year, IT AIN’T HAPPENING! ur P.G sucks and so does your bench. Thats life. deal with it

    • lakerman34

Delonte West better than Matt Barnes??? Really?

Wait…..JO is still in the NBA? I thought he was riding the bench for the Pacers. (sarcasm)

    • Nathan

Hmmm the state of the NBA. The team with our PG that “sucks” and our shitty bench. Can some one update me on who is the current b-b champions. We abbreviate that because we have to remind cats like you. Think about all the reasons you criticize L.A. then ask yourselves. “Who’s go the hardware? Who has heavy hands” They wear purple and gold.

  • lakerman34

Only minor tweaks needed. I can see the Lakers trading Artest+Shannon Brown for a PG/SG and putting Matt Barnes in the starting 5.

I’m not entirely worried. 3Peat dreams aren’t dead.

  • sasha4lvp

The way I see it, there are 2 problems with the Lakers.

    1. Ron Artest

Not only is he slipping defensively, his offense is laughable. I’m not even exaggerating when I say the way Ron played on Sunday, he should be in the D league right now. I mean the guy can’t even make a lay up or a put back anymore and Pierce lit him up. The ONLY reason we got artest was for D and he can’t even D up anymore. RON HAS TO GO. He is our biggest problem.

    2. Lack of an outside shooter.

We need a pure shooter like Ray Allen to make 3s consistently and floor for our bigs and kobe. The closest thing to that that we had was Radman and he was a space cadet. Bynum and Gasol are always getting crowded because our outside shooting is a joke. You know we have a problem when Shannon Brown is our best 3 pt shooter. Not to knock Shannon, but Shannon isn’t a shooter, he is a slasher.

When it comes to players we should try and trade for, I really like Omri Caspi from the Kings. The kid can shoot and he is young. I haven’t looked at the numbers or anything for a trade, just throwing names out there. I also think we should try and get Battier. I know he is on the older side, but the guy can STILL play lock down D, unlike artest, and he can knock down the 3. We don’t need a major shakeup, but just a few minor changes.

    • Inverse

You, my friend, are right on the money

    • daboss1848

didnt we just trade a pure shooter for an old PF

    • Smexii

How about trading for Aaron Afflalo? He can play D and shoots 3s. The problem would be snatching him away from Denver. His contract is so small we’d have to give up both rookies to even consider that deal “fair”

    • ilikebasketball

i totally agree with the first point.
but we’ve been to the finals three years in a row. and the only time we actually had serious 3 point threats was in ’08 when we lost.

it isn’t three point shooting that is killing us, though i agree it would help..it’s the point guards getting by us at all speeds and running us ragged.

  • Dreamboat

trade Gasol for Stan Love’s kid and former UCLA product

    • lakerman34

how about bynum+artest to CHI for noah+deng+james johnson?

the numbers work out. chicago gets one of the best post bigs in the game, save on the long term salary (dengs 6 years worth more than $11M, artest’s $6M), lakers get a HARD worker in the paint in noah, a good offensive player in deng, and a little young talent in james johnson.

  • kb24dbest

I’m not sure if there’s any goog players outthere for a trade right now. The lakers problem is again “DEFENSE.” They need to focus their entire practice on defense and forget about the triangle because the triangle will come if they play good defense. The lakers right now is like triangle offense is their primary language and defense is their secondary nature. They seem to be having a harder time focusing on defense which means they need more practice. Defense should be human nature and offense is second nature. Until they get it together DEFENSIVELY, forget about a 3peat.

  • Coach Brian Shaw

Mitch usually doesnt leak out anything about impending trades. He didnt do it with the Gasol trade or any other trade. I thinks its all just a tactic to motivate the players.

  • Lakers_The_Truth

Walton, Artest and Shannon for Melo.
    That’s my take.
Odom is untouchable now dure the his contract and the way he is playing. Gasol and Bynum are needed for the size. Fisher is old and not making too much money.
Artest hasn’t show up this season and Shannon is an attractive piece to Denver. Walton will have an expiring contract up sometime soon.

    Do it Mitch!

But I have to say, Lakers issues are due for the lack of desire to win than actually talent. We have the pieces what is lacking and effort to.

    • ilikebasketball

      Shannon is playing great.
      why would we trade him?
we aren’t paying him much and he has stepped up as a scorer while others have languished.

    • lakerman34

Yeah, Walton’s contract is up IN 3 YEARS. That’s a long enough time for a team that needs to think about rebuilding.

Why would the Nugs want Artest?

    • Nick

ya denver is really gonna do that. R u fucking retarded kid?? U would have to give up Artest and Shannon along with either odom or bynum.

    • Lakers_The_Truth

tell me who else the Lakers would give in a trade for Melo?
      Pau, Bynum, Fisher, Odom?
      No fucking way biatches.
Any trade now is a long shot. I really do not see Mitch doing it, but if he has to do it, Artest and Shannon would be the most appealing pieces they can get rid of without dismantling the team.
What I think the Lakers need is a fucking slap in the face to wake up and put some energy on these games. They have the talent but the complacency is fucking killing us.

  • lakerman34

    we need a point guard.
Blake isn’t cutting it to relieve fisher. anytime we play a team with a good point guard we suffer. we have to have a point guard that can contain a fast pg. we don’t have that. end of story.

the second point is the Gasol thing. He just looks tired. I don’t get why Jackson doesn’t cut his minutes early in the game and then play him through the second half.

For people complaining about Bynum he is looking great.

I would say most likely to go would be Ron Artest/Blake
and maybe…just maybe Gasol….depending on how Kobe feels about him now.

Bynum ain’t going anywhere and either is Odom. Odom is having an all star season.

JOHN WALL! Offer anyone except for Kobe. Of course, Fisher then add Bynum and Artest.
    Starters:
    1- Wall
2- Blake or Barnes (Kobe and Wall need a spot up shooter)
    3- Kobe
    4- Odom
    5- Gasol
This would make for another 3 championships.

    • sasha4lvp

LMAO. The next 3 ships??! LOL. Put down the bong man. And why would you want to completely demolish a team than won 2 straight ships?! Plus Kobe is a 2 guard, he doesn’t have the size to be a 3. that is one of the most laughable posts I have read in a long time.

      • UK

You don’t know much about basketball do you? The 2 and 3 are very interchangible. You could have Kobe run the 2 and Blake/Barnes run the 3. Or, to make you happy:
        1-Wall
        2-Blake/Barnes
        2-Kobe
        4-Odom
        4-Gasol

And you aren’t demolishing a team. As much as I like Fisher, PG is our weakness. Wall is THAT GOOD. You still have everyone else the same, minus Bynum and Artest (who have hurt the team this season).

    • SHOWTIME4EVA

Putting Gasol at center will not get us a championship. Look at him now.

  • Eidraq

The only guy id be willing to trade would be artest.

  • lakerman34

Now that I’m talking pipe dreams, how about this one:

    LA sends to PHX
    Andrew Bynum
    Ron Artest
    Devin Ebanks
    Picks

    PHX sends to LA
    Steve Nash
    Grant Hill
    Channing Frye

    STARTING LINEUPS
    PHX
    PG Goran Dragic
    SG Vince Carter
    SF Michael Pietrus/Ron Artest
    PF Hakim Warrick
    C Andrew Bynum

    LAL
    PG Steve Nash
    SG Kobe Bryant
    SF Grant Hill
    PF Lamar Odom
    C Pau Gasol

PROBABLY would need to get rid of Steve Blake somehow in this scenario.

HAHA all pipe dreams…….I really don’t think Lakers will do anything THAT drastic. A guy here or there. I think the most tradeable guy is, unfortunately, Odom. Can’t see the Lakers doing away with Pau or Bynum, and Artest brings publicity, and no other team wants him anyways.

    • Nathan

If we come out of this trade deadline with some sort of change, I highly doubt it will be @ the 1 after winning 2 rings with Fish. And we will not be getting significantly older by picking up Hill @ the 3.

Our main focuses will be defense. Hill does not cover this to the championship level that we need. If any one from PHX it’ll bee Pietrus. I love the comeback story of Grant Hill but he just ain’t in our future.

  • Day

Steve Blake and Bynum for Mike Bibby and Josh Smith

    =)

  • Edward

Sure the Lakers have had trouble… but they’re not getting blown out every night. We see flashes of what they should be. It’s all in their mindset.

If you actually think about the Laker situation you would realize we have everything we need or could want. We just need desire.

The one thing we don’t have hypothetically is defense. How are you going to increase your defense with just one player? One trade… it’s not very likely.

Kobe gets burned off screens, and lets the offensive player go right into the heart of our defense.

Gasol doesn’t convert like he used to, he’s not as dependable. And no one except Odom, blake, shannon and Bynum are hustling for rebounds.

In years past Kobe has tried to do too much. In this situation he has had to do too much and it isn’t enough.

Defense is killing us because in these key games it isn’t our inability to score that is killing us. What’s killing us is our inability to stop the other team from scoring. Late in the fourth, when we make a run and come within 4, they are start to get stops and we let them pull away. Enough said.

Trades can’t make this team better. They need to stop daydreaming, and need to stop waiting for the other guy to step up.

Don’t forget our roster is injured. Matt Barnes would be a lot of help and if these rookies got more playing time they would be a great deal of help. Joe Smith and Ratliff would be great help for garbage minutes if our team got the leads that we should be having in these games.

Look at our team on paper… is there a better team in the league? If you say yes… I would challenge your basketball IQ. Even the heat are so incomplete. Joel Anthony had 13 boards and 0 points… that one game. It’s just those 3 players and a couple of shooters.

We have two 1st tier big men, one of the greatest shooting guards of all time, and a versatile 3/4 who can bring the ball up. We have an athletic and scrappy bench who on any given night should be able to light it up. We are a solid ass team. We just need to get healthy and focus on getting the teamwork back. Not on trades and finding someone to blame or to save the day. Hard work, the right mentality. These Lakers can’t slack off they have a lot of ground to make up. If they keep up this level of play they’ll make a first round playoff exit.

Having said that Artest needs to pick it up on both ends. Consistency. Who cares about winning as long as we are playing the way we should be. Because it’s not enough to think about things by the end result. Start from the basics, and build up from there.

    • Nick

No ones a leader in ur gay ass Lakers team. Kobe is a ball hog! Shit Nate Robinson shows better leadership that any of those goons. I bet he has a bigger dick than Bynum!! I can probably deepthroat Bynum no problem, while gagging with Nate you bitch ass Lakers! and stop with the injury excuses you fags!!!

      • HATER

Uh thats the Celtdiks who make up injury excuses cause i remember Doc saying if it wasnt for Perkins being hurt they would of could of should of WHATEVER! WAA WAA WAA! Cry babies!

  • somelakerdude

I think it was Ron who drained the go-ahead 3 that put us ahead of Boston last year in the Finals. I think it was Fish who came clutch for us 2 years ago when we won against the Magic.

Like Phil said “Is it the playoffs?” No. Plus we don’t have Barnes who i forgot got 15 & 15 off the bench for us one game and 14 & 8 other games. Plus had that game that went perfect from the field and knocked down 6 three pointers. Yes some minor changes need to be made like getting rid of Luke cause honestly that guy can’t play. But were fine, the All-Star game is coming up Pau needs to rest and we will come back strong to finish the season. Trust me we WILL WIN THIS YEAR!.

  • Nick

U guys are fucking clowns… I like Matt Barnes alot actually I always have, but just how can you compare him to Delonte West? Delonte West is smaller but he’s just a much more skilled and better player. U guys are so fucking ignorant. Hows that Trevor Ariza Artest swap looking now u douchebags?? Go and clamor the NBA landscape and look 4 someone to trade for keep hoping and praying. Don’t u see Boston’s depth is paramount? ANd 4 that guys who compared Theo Ratliff to Jermaine O’ Neal cmo’n dude really? O’ Neal is a 7 time All-Star and very good when healthy. Ratliff was a defensive presence in 1997. Man it amazes me that I’m 21 and constantly dropping knowledge on u Laker bums. In L.A Shannon Brown is ur 7th man. Over here he wouldn’t make the fucking roster Lmao go to the beach u guys don’t know dick

    • lakeshowww

Knowledge? your argument is contradicting. Ya of course jermaine oneal is a 7 time all star and very good when healthy. When is he ever healthy? have u ever thought about his age? thats like arguing wow tmac is soo good hes an all star when hes healthy… but guess what the dude is made of glass and tissue paper just like jermaine

    • Bill Walton

Are you kidding? If you guys had Shannon Brown, Nate Robinson would still be a Knick

  • Nick

Why don’t u jerks think realistic. U ain’t getting Carmelo or John Wall or any other great youngster. Trade 4 Ben Wallace and then the Celtics Giants (SHAQ, PERK, K.G, J.O’NEAL, SEMIH, and Big Baby) wil at least have someone who wants to battle and not a bunch of skinny pussies who fear cointact

    • Nick

and one more thing! I don’t fear contact from naked men!!!

      • HATER

        Yah we know Queer!

  • cliff

    It’s definitely not panic time.

    • Nick

Yea right! Ur ass better panic you or ur really stupid. Its like me saying I have a dildo up my ass and I’m enjoying it but in reality Im hurting inside!!!

      • HATER

You are not hurting cause you like it.

  • Laker8n4te24

Nick is secretly a angry nets fan that is coming to realize they won’t get melo so now he/she is acting as if it’s a celtics fan…it makes me laugh to see how much it comments on a laker site…we all know ur sashas biggest fan and u have a foot fetish of Jordan farmar…it’s ok tho sister y’all will b n Brooklyn soon u bum

    • Nick

U dumb ass! I don’t even like Slovenian dicks u whore. The only guy I’d give head to there is Devin Harris and yet he’s still a light skinned brother. I love my men tall, drak and skinny like KG. I bet he has a nice looking pen-is for me to suck on!

      • Nick

Ur mom takes it in the ass from D.J MBENGA U HOMO

        • Nick

I do it to myself sometimes! HEEEE!

  • KILLUMANTI

i think the lakers should trade everyone and start from scratch. Kobe is ball hog and illuminati.

  • sasha4lvp

Will management please stop going with the throwback Lakers’ uniforms every time we play the celtics in the regular season. They play crappy every time they were those old uniforms! Both times we have played the celtics in those unis, we have lost.

    • Jonathan

THANK YOU!!! I CONCUR 100% THOSE THROWBACK JERSEYS ARE CURSED EVERY TIME WE PLAY THE CELTICS.

      • dabοss1848

        oh come on – we’re sound like C’ s w/ these excuses.
They blame on player for being out key games, we blame jersey for reg. season.

we lost because we got outhustled and outplayed.
KB was magnificent – everyone else out of sync / seem disinterested.

        • daboss1848

          excellent hack – but ehhh

        • sasha4lvp

I am not making it an excuse. I know we got out-hustled and out-played. the lakers should be winning no matter what unis they are wearing, but they should never wear them again, especially against the Cs. It just a weird considence that we are 0-2 against the celtics with those unis. just like the lakers usually play crappy in their sunday whites.

  • Dragon

Right now every team is a threat to the lakers well except for the cav’s I just think Gasol isn’t strong enough for these bigger younger guys. He isn’t big enough he just fatigue and perhaps he’s past his prime too and Kobe isn’t scoring at will anymore like he use to. As for Bynum I just don’t see him as a great center we need to get more athlete younger guys more faster players. Our players are old and slow need more speed for this team. The PG position still haven’t been fix we need Fisher to play backup we need someone with fresh legs.

  • hoop247

trade bynum or gasol and artest for dwight howard

  • Celtics Suck Salty Nuts

The truth really is that Gasol and Artest are not performing up to the level that they are paid to play at. At 17 million, Pau should be averaging .4 more blocks, 1.0 rebound, and 1.5 points more per game. Either this or he has to do more of the intangibles that disrupts all opponents like many other Laker players can do.

  • Josh

    get melo or howard LA!

  • Tyler

Im not sure they should be so fast to dump gasol. He has helped us to 2 championships, and while he is struggling, he is one of the best players in the NBA. Dump Ron…or Shannon heck maybe even Odom, but I wouldn’t be so fast to trade Gasol

  • Nick

you guys really fucking idiots, seriously i would suck KG’s dick while letting Rondo penetrate me from behind!!! That’s how much I like the Celtics u weak ass Laker fans!!!

    • Nick

I like giving myself pleasures! HEEEEEEEE!

  • http://TheLakerNation Big Dan

Easy there Nick, we’re gonna beat these skinny, scared, soft, unaggresive, old, washed up, has been team. The team they have right now doesn’t have a niggas chance in Boston of beating the Celtics in a seven game series. And if their fans say they do their either lying cause they can’t bear to addmit that to a Celtics fan. Or they really are that dumb and foolish. Biggest problem with all this Nick is we’re gonna be denied the pleasure of mopping the floor with these fags cause the Spurs are gonna do it and we’re all gonna get a preview of that Thursday. We’ll see what batch of excuses you fags come up with after that lose.

    • Nick

Fakers just can’t admit it and too much in denial to see their team falling apart like my Father’s limp dick! Lakers can’t touch the Celtics anymore like my Father can’t touch me anymore! Celtics all the way! 2011 Champs!!!

      • Nick

Ur A FRAUD WANNABE Nick u ain’t the real me faggot

    • Nick

AMEN BIG DAN. Spurs Celtics Finals in June while the homos from the beaches in Miami and L.A watch. Like they even give a fuck!

      • Nick

Keep it up Fake Nick, or I’ll beat you down little man! I’ll find you where ever you are! And once again, I AM NOT A CELTICS FAN! I AM A CLIPPERS FAN FAGGOT! I just wanted to piss you Faker fans off, and it worked!

        • Nick

Fake Nick is such a Bitch wahh wahhh wahhh

    • Nick

And anything stupid that u see up here is these faggot Laker Fans posting as a fake me! THey are truly fucking pathetic

      • Nick

This is pathetic! I’m the real Nick here. For all you posers out their listen up! I really never liked the Celtics at all! I’m a huge diehard Clippers fan! I just love getting a rise out of you guys! We ain’t your guys door mats anymore! Go Blake Griffin! Go Clippers!

      • Nick

Stupid ass Fake Nick. Youre a fucking fraud! Everyone knows my dick aint 3 inches you dumb fag. I wish it was though.

    • Nick

I like Big Dan! I like Fags!

    • Big Dan the Fag

Big Dan the Fag! Talk about old players? The Celtics have players that are in the twilight of their careers! When teams are done with their superstar players, they all go to Boston to retire! Big Dan the Fag, I bet you money that Kobe will get a call from the Celtics in four years, and asked if he would like to come to Boston. You can have him in four years fag! Like I say, the only way Boston can recruite players is through the draft, when players are just excited to be in the NBA. Because anything else, the Celtics may have to go back to the usual way and that’s trade away half of the team! The biggest problem with that is you will come up with an ecuse for that! But you know it’s true fag!

  • ICE CREAM MAN

Id give up bynum, luke and a rookie for dwight howard.
gasol, luke and a rookie for dwight if that’s what they want.

    • Kings of the West

who would ever want Fluke? MAYBE they would want a rookie but come on man, we know that will never happen

  • daboss1848

Bye bye Pau. Go play that toilet tissue game in Europe. Your getting punked harder than a red headed step child in C block.

  • trippleoccho

No one is getting traded. This is a motivational strategy from Mitch.

    • evil empire

      Finally someone that gets it!

  • mr.laker19

Lets be real, Kobe, Gasol, Odom, and Fisher will NOT be traded. Ima give you guys a name for a person who would for sure make a difference… GERALD WALLACE! He just fits. I love Josh Smith too but Gerald Wallace fits what we do a little better. If we get him I will feel alot better.

  • lakerman34

I think the facts are Kupchak is threatening trade to light a fire under the Lakers asses. If anything, we trade role players for other role players, or picks for role players. The only tradeable piece we have is Odom (Bryant, Pau, DFish are untouchable, Lakers LOVE Bynum, NO ONE wants Artest).

And if we trade Odom, we need some GOOD return. Odom brings A LOT of publicity to the Lakers b/c his marriage to Khloe, and you will NOT find a 7-footer who plays PG comfortably. Odom may be the toughest guy to guard in the league.

Just ran this one through ESPN Trade Machine:
    LAL sends to DEN
    F Pau Gasol
    F Ron Artest

    DEN sends to LAL
    C Nene
    F Carmelo Anthony

    HAHA this is fun.

  • rondo

Stupid fools go trade Bynum to a team like the Hornets and watch him develope into a star. Chris Paul will feast on having a big like him. The Lakers without a decent point guard does not know how to get the best out of him. So his game suffers, can’t depend on Kobe because Kobe is a shooting guard and Fisher need to put on a suit with Luke and coach. Trading Bynum will be a big mistake.

    • lakerman34

      Agreed.

Although he shouldn’t be, Pau is untouchable. I’d like the Lakers to put him on the block and see what other teams would offer for him.

    • kobe-wan kenobi

      lol rondo you idiot retard
      bynum is injured every year
      this year already injured

trade his sorry ass to get something
      his body is rotten
      no chances

      bynum for nene

      • dabοss1848

        “idiot retard”
        nice chose of words kobe-wan.

u sure denver would value glass knee?

        • daboss1848

hack if ur going to correct someone, “choice”

          • dabοss1848

            Touché

  • NICK

I WANT TO APOLOGIZE TO ALL OF YOU LAKER FANS

  • NICK

I’M PRAYING THAT THE LAKERS DON’T GET MELO
    THATS SCARES THE CELTICS

    • Nick

Hey now! I’m the real Nick here! Cut it out will yah! I just wanted to say that I love the Clippers! Yes! GOOOOO Clippers!!!

      • Nick

ahhhhh! Im done you guys are so gay! I’m the real Nick! Please stop I’m serious, Im sorry guys, just stop this and I promise to be more logical and mature in my responses.

  • captnsaveaho

I havent looked at any numbers, but what about aaron afflalo? he plays D. he makes open 3s.

  • Nick

Aw man I wish all of the celtic players would have a circle jerk soon, so they can all jizz in my mouth. I would also love it if Blake Griffin would do a dunk in the dunk contest that has him with him nuts out in the open and my mouth be the basket.

  • xtro

the core will not be traded.

  • VICC!

Enough with the bull**** that we need to trade gasol or bynum what we need is a legit point guard!! someone who can actually make a damn play all fisher does is stand in a corner and wait for a open three the same shit with blake!
Who would be a legit PG to bring over to the Lakers?!

    • Van Mo

OJ Mayo. Grizzlies desperately shopping him ever since the suspension.

  • Gugy

    Mitch is bluffing, that’s all.
Lakers have the talent what it lacking now is the desire to win these regular season games.
We sure need to play better and assert as the champions. Phill needs to justify the millions of dollars he is making and put these guys to work. Gasol and Artest have been a disappointment lately.
Fuck Boston, SA and Miami. We need to beat these guys at some point.
Spurs will be a good matchup, but the Lakers need to be careful and not overlook the other teams in the way to a possible WCF with the Spurs.

  • Van Mo

Ron Artest to Knicks for Ronny Turiaf & Roger Mason. Ron-ron can finally play for this dream team Knicks while Ronny can finally go home to LA. We get a damn good Shooting guard in Roger Mason as a throw-in to match salaries.

  • Laker101

I think we need some more speed in the second unit. As good as these guys looked on paper in the second unit we just cant compete with what other teams got. I was afraid of the team looking older and the truth is that during the regular season we saw almost 2 different units last season, a quick one and the starters who were more of a half court team. We need some runners but chances are if there is a trade it will only push the team back. Usually players who are traded dont see much playing time, especially in a Phil Jackson offense. Unless your name is Pau Gasol

  • Nick

LMAO I love how I’ve got u guys all fucked up and posting messages as me! U are falling right into my trap that I’VE set. I’ve invaded LakerNation and now I run this shit. HEY KOBE HOW DOES THAT BIRD SHIT PIERCE DROPPED ON UR HEAD FEEL?

    • Nick

Please stop this I’m the real Nick, and I don’t find it funny at all. Big Dan help me out here!!! LMAO u guys are so immature. Haha keep falling for my trap, the trap to think that I’m gay and when you ask for sexual pleasures from me, I’m not gonna do it!!!

    • Nick the Queer!

THAT’S RIGHT NICK THE QUEER! GET THE HELL OFF THIS SITE! NEVER MESS WITH LAKER NATION SMELTIC FAG! ENJOY THE SMELTICS LAST STAND! I hope for your sake they win this year, because they will be tooo old for another run, and ANOTHER TWENTY MORE YEARS before you see a Finals in Boston again! BUT, you can always trade half of you’re team for ONE player like you guys always do, and start building for another!

  • NICK

LMAO I love how I’ve got u guys all fucked up and posting messages as me! U are falling right into my trap that I’VE set. I’ve invaded CELTICNation and now I run this shit. HEY DANNY AINGE HOW DOES THAT BIRD SHIT PIERCE DROPPED ON UR HEAD FEEL?

  • kobe4ever

There is no real trade out there. Even though Bynum is injury prone, his length is key to our success. Same goes for Gasol and Odom. Our bench is talented, although inconsistent but which bench players to swap out for other role players? Barnes, Blake, Brown is still a good trio compared to other benches. We need Fish for the playoffs, and Kobe is untouchable. That leaves Ron Artest, but no one wants that erratic loser. I don’t see a trade happening, we don’t have much to offer unless we break up the strength of our team which is length = defense. We’re in it for the long haul with this crew, get used to it, and watch them show up for the postseason. It’s not time to hit the panic button yet. 3 peat.

  • kobe4ever

Never mind I take that back. Bynum INJURY UPDATE: Bone bruise, out tonight against Rockets. Trade his @$$ please, his length and defense for a few games a year is not worth $13.5 mil of cap space. Like Kobe once said, “ship his @$$ out”

  • Lakers2000

I wonder if Cleveland would give up Varajao in a trade? He plays with heart next to a decent cast. The owner would probably help us to ensure Lebitch doesn’t get the title. Just thinking out loud.

  • Los Lakers

i hate to give up bynum, but his injuries are getting out of control, it’d be nice if our backcourt wasn’t so damn old, 30 years between kob and fish back there, no one’s pointing out the obvious our pg is the weakest link in the starting 5, everything starts and ends there, fish is last in every statiscal category it’s pathetic i think if we make a change it should be at the starting pg position…

  • DCLakeshow

Personally, for the last couple of years, I’ve been the first to jump (bark) at anyone who used the term Gasoft…BUT I’m sorry, I have to call a spade a spade. For the majority of this season, he has looked unmotivated, disenchanted, and unfortunately, Gasoft in the paint. I’m not saying that we need to get rid of him (he’s a big reason why we’ve been to the last 3 finals), but we need someone who’s going to not curl up like a little girl, when it’s crunch time and the ballgame’s on the line. To look at Garnett hit shots….HELL… even Baby Davis scoring in the last moments of the game, looking to contribute, while Gasoft shied away from any and all contact, just made me sick. If and Whomever we bring in, needs to add some toughness in that paint, and some energy on both ends of the floor.

  • carlos

LA will be rebuilt in 2012. Until then they have 2 more chances to win the championship. Transfers must bę done so in 2012 there is enought money in salary cap for new players. Therefore LA could transfer Nash and Gortat frome PHX and in return send Bynum and Fisher or Blake. Nash is the best PG in the league. Bynum knees are like 60 years old granfather. He will never be a player around you could built a team. Gortat is descent C with similar statistics as Bynum and is so much more energetic. In 2012 Nash contrac is ending so is Odom. Lakers will have about 20mln to sign new playe and in 2012 there will be few PG to sign in:
    CP3
    Deron Williams
    Derrick Rose
    Russell Westbrook
Morover, winning 2011 championship is the only argument for Phill to stay for enother season.

    Evolution rather then revolution…

And if not Nash maybe go for Kings…

D.Cousins is interesting big man… Trade Bynum and Blake for D.Cousins and Udrih oraz Tyreke Evans

    or

Kevin Love and Darko Milicic for Bynum…

    or

Igudala and Elton Brand for Bynum, Artest and Walton

    or

Calderon, Bargniani and Dorsey for Bynum and Blake

    or

Nash, Gortat and Grant Hill for Bynum and Artest

  • AZ

you guys are all trippin if you think pau will be traded. i dont even think anyone will be traded, just a little scare to the team so they can step the f%^$ up

  • CM

TRADE RON RON FOR TREVOR ARIZA!!! SIMPLE!

    • LeykahFan13

      haha!that would be nice!xD

  • seperate the winners from the pretenders

Ron Artest and steve Blake for Baron Davis…. just a thought.. both ron and baron are enigmatic..lrealistic low risk high reward type of trade like i said its just a thought so dont get all bent out of shape if you dont agree

    • seperate the winners from the pretenders

im thinkin maybe baron can provide some new life and energy and excitement for us and could be a good shake up for us thats all

  • Nick

Anybody want nude pictures of Larry Bird? I’m moving and I can’t take these boxes of gay porn with me.

I also have Bill Russell, but he looks like Arsenio Hall as the old guy from the barbershop in “Coming to America”. I starred in the porn version of that movie “Cumming to America… ‘s Homos”.

    PS. I’m gay

  • CelticsSuck4Ever

Luke sucks!!!! Send him to Boston for some creme pies.

  • LeykahFan13

Chris Paul would be a nice addition to the team. I think He fits perfectly with the triangle offense. Another thing, have a “backup” for KB!

  • Aiongroupinc
