Kobe: We Should “Have Kept Marc Gasol”

Interesting reviews on Pau’s younger brother Marc, here is a little something Kobe had to say about him…

Commercial Appeal: So, to review: He’s big, with a soft touch. Anything else you lads want to say? Yes? Kobe? Go ahead, fire away.

“In hindsight, we probably didn’t have to give him up to get Pau,” Bryant said. “We should have kept Marc, too.”  How’s that for the ultimate endorsement? Bryant would like to have Marc Gasol back.

I don’t think they had to include him in the Pau Gasol trade. I think he was just a sweetener for the trade and maybe the Lakers could of gave Memphis another 1st or 2nd round pick instead.

Oh well though, we definitely got the better side of the trade since we gave up Kwame ;D

  • Sako

i’ve been thinking about this for some time now. we wouldnt have to chris mihm as back-up.

  • LakersFirst

Isn’t Kobe the same guy that wanted to trade Bynum for Jason Kidd??

  • John

All I can say is STFU kobe.

  • lakersftw

    Don’t tell him to STFU
    He’s right
Marc Gasol and Pau Gasol playing together in LA, we would dominate

  • Geloman

Yeah, I think the Lakers should have given up Bynum instead of Marc Gasol. The Gasol brothers togeher would be awesome.

  • lakersftw

OK now thats just stupid giving up Bynum instead of Marc Gasol

  • kbb24

Marc Gasol is so fat and soft, we don’t need him.

  • Thomas

Watching Spain, Marc isn’t as good a shooter as Pau and the Lakers already have a big guy to fill the middle. Pau is a better fit into the triangle…

  • lakerschamps09

i agree kobe we didnt have to give up marc to get pau.. and if he was playin with us it be as backup unless someone gets injured.. John and lakersfirst why yall knocking on kobe for hes rite… and bynum for marc is just stupid come on now ppl.. lol
too bad now but i think pau would have given 110 percent if arc was with him.. but watever

  • pio2u

I agree, I also think we should have gotten D. Wade in the Shaq trade but what will be will be. Lakers forever!!

Right. Though I wouldn’t mind having Marc as a Laker, but he would barely play at all since the Center spot would be full and he’d probably end up having like 10 minutes per game or something, but even so, I still think that we shouldn’t have given Memphis any of our picks, as it seems that Marc, Kwame and J-Critt should’ve been value enough, I say we tear down the Grizzlies stadium in riot for a rip-off for us! LOL

I was being sarcastic dude. Why the hell do we need Marc Gasol when we have Bynum, huh?!

So when you said Marc and Pau Gasol playing together, we would dominate. What you really meant to say was “Andrew and Pau playing together we would dominate”. Which we will.

Marc Gasol is going to be a starter in this league so there’s no room for him on our team. Do you really think he would be satisfed playing 10-15 min off the bench? I don’t think so.

Plus it would take a few years for him to become an effective C in this league, and I’m pretty sure the Lakers want to win now.

It would be nice to have the Gasol brothers on the Lakers Squad. Memphis obviously knew what they looking – and that is to get some excellent young future prospects in return.

Well first of all, Bynum is our only true good center we have..Chris Mihm is coming off an injury and I doubt Mbenga will be here next season..Gasol is a POWER FORWARD and when we are facing teams with two good big men, Bynum and Gasol will both need good backup..Odom can play power forward and Marc Gasol can play some backup for Bynum

  • Mitch4Pres

should have given them coby karl instead

  • VoiceofReason

    Bynum/Marc
    Gasol/Powell
    Odom/Ariza
    Kobe/Sasha
    Fisher/Farmar

    Not bad

  • Gelo

Yeah Marc Gasol would be a great back up but as a rookie, do you think Phil will give him minutes. Even if the Lakers kept him and brought him in this season, Mihm, because of his experience and even Mbenga would get minutes ahead of Marc. Marc is a project and eventually will be a good center in this league but the Lakers are looking to win now and have no time to groom future bigs.

I agree. I never understood why that wasn’t made possible.

  • MILO

Kobe needs to shut the f-u-c-k up already!!! Marc is trash!

  • gmikan99

I thought Kobe wasn’t going to be playing GM anymore.

Marc Gasol has not played one day in the NBA. We don’t know how good he is going to be. He may become the next Pau Gasol or Mehmet Okur or Darko Milicic. Seeing a player once in international competition is not enough.

Neither are all the Youtube “highlights”. If somebody would send some real footage of full games then we could get a feel for what he may become in the NBA.

Also, the Lakers had to give the Grizzlies something because they did not want Lamar Odom’s contract.

Kobe should just be happy that we got Pau Gasol because the Lakers were lucky that Memphis GM was willing to take Kwame Brown.

The Pau Gasol trade is still great for the Lakers. All of the talk of regret about losing Marc Gasol will go away just like when everyone was talking about how they hated to see Javaris Crittenton leaving for Memphis.

  • lafanfromindiana

Marc is too slow to be a force in the NBA. He will probably average 6pts and 5 rebounds and I think thats being generous.

They didnt want to give him up thats why

  • gmikan99

I’m just tired of this revisionist thinking on the trade. If Marc Gasol was tearing up the European leagues, then Kupchak probably would not have included Marc and told Memphis he is not available.

I hope that Marc turns out to be a good player, but the Lakers had to give Memphis something. The Lakers still come out ahead in the trade.

Also, with Andrew Bynum coming back, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Josh Powell and a healthy Chris Mihm, Marc probably would not have gotten much playing time.

With Marc getting $10 million over 3 years, the Lakers would not have been able to bring him over.

The only way that Marc Gasol would make the roster is if the Pau Gasol trade never happened.

Right now: Pau Gasol > Marc Gasol

Love Kobe but I totally agree with everyone who wants him to STFU!

  • CALM DOWN

    Fred-

Why would memphis ever make that trade? Theyre backed up at the positions where walton and radmanoviz would play..and marc has wayyy more upside.

Kobe is right? Just the same way he was right when he said the Lakers should have traded Bynum for Kidd? Come on now, don’t let being a Kobe-fan cloud your common sense.

  • Peeler

Pfft, we got a COMPLETE STEAL and some people are still not satisfied? Can’t have your cake and eat it.

That’s the reason Kobe is not in the Front Office.
I’m tired of Kobe talking whether Marc should not have been traded or playing in Europe…especially since he is still a member of the Lakers. To bad there is no such thing a “reverse” tampering.

  • E-ROC

LOL, people are reading too much into what Kobe said. He gives his opinion and Lakers fans want him to STFU? Fickle fans.

  • maccassedy

yea we should have PROBABLY KEPT SHAQ…. we PROBABLY didn’t have to give him up to get Pau,” Bryant said. “We should have kept Marc, too.” How’s that for the ULTIMATE ENDORSEMENT? • DCLAKER

STOP DISRESPECTING THE MAMBA,y’all got to be snorting coke for insults…Y’ALL STFU!!

  • http://lakers.com lakers101

we should have kept him..i mean we should have traded Chris Mihm instead….if kobe retires in the next 6 or so years…the KOBE era is gonna be done and the GASOL ERA would be the next in LA..just like the lakers tradition from Jerry West -kareem-magic-shaq-kobe——gasols”"

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #49106 Will Be Quoted Here]

I think you’re forgetting about Andrew Bynum. The Laker FO is expecting the next era to be the Bynum era.

TO ALL KINGS AND QUEENS BORN ON THIS,like yours truly……..HAPPY B-DAYS M’F'ERS!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • long legga lai

who cares, we got sun yue!!!

  • lakersftw

Haha I think after the Kobe Era is the Bynum Era, then the Bynum + (insert new young shooting guard that resembles kobe) Era and the new young shooting guard is going to drive out Bynum and we will trade him to the Heat for some crappy players and then the new young shooting guard will score 82 points in a single game and carry us to the playoffs but it will be a first round exit.

Sound familiar? HAHAHA im just kidding though

  • jonathan

LA will never have a Gasol era. He is only 2 years younger than Kobe, and Bynum is going to be better than gasol.
