Kobe thrives on all our hate

Scoop writes one of the best articles about Kobe Bryant ever. Oh, and haters… hate on, please.

ESPN: Hello, my name is Hate. I’ve been around for a long time. Thanks for creating me.

I’m here today to talk about Kobe Bryant. Yeah, you know, that dude. The one who keeps me alive, simply because of the way so many of you feel about him. You see, there’s hate, and then there’s the way millions feel about him. There’s animosity, jealousy, anger … and then there’s the way so many of you feel about him. And now that the conversation has come to the forefront — about his place in history if he wins Championship No. 4 — I have returned with a vengeance.

So many people are rooting against the Lakers just because of Kobe. Maybe that’s just what Kobe wants?

Yeah me, Hate — I’m back. And it seems, thanks to you, I’m stronger than ever.

The funny thing about me is, my existence has nothing to do with basketball when it comes to Kobe Bryant. When people say they are rooting for the Magic strictly based on their hate for Kobe, or they just don’t want the Lakers to win because of their hate for Kobe, 99.9 percent of the time basketball is not the reason.

It’s his attitude — he’s arrogant and smug. He’s selfish. He’s phony. He thinks he’s better than everyone.

The Colorado incident comes up — it sits in the back of people’s minds like a trump card in Bid Whist. The breakup of the Lakers dynasty? Blamed on him. Sides are still being chosen. Shaq comes up. Love him, hate the other. People have even said they like LeBron’s Nike puppet more than Kobe’s.

Now that’s hate. That’s me on a whole ‘nother level.

Lemme breathe. Ahhhhhh. Feels good.

Well done Scoop! The fuel to his fire. While reading it the background music from all youtube videos for Mamba keeps repeating in my head (Eminem – Til I Collapse & NAS – Hate me now).

Just keeps my fire up for GAME 3. Thanks again.

    great article.

People seem to forget that MJ was kind of a jerk to his teammates. He wasn’t a “nice” guy (I’m pretty sure he fought with Steve Kerr in practice). Whatever.

  • WifelovesLuke

What a lousy world we live in. A guy goes out and sets his mind to becoming the best at what he does. He succeeds beyond most expectations and people are calling him arrogant, selfish, egotistical, etc. What kind of lesson is that? Strive to be great so people can hate? Shame on all the hate.

I understand rooting against another team because you are rooting for your own, but to not appreciate God given ability and greatness is just plain ignorant. I was never a big fan of the Celtics (obviously) but I could always appreciate the skill and drive of Larry Bird. Did I hate the Celtics? Yep! Did I hate Bird? Nope. Stop hating on Kobe. He’s earned the right to be in the G.O.A.T. discussion and if he picks up this Chip plus another, he can even be in the MJ discussion.

You can always count on Scoop to give you his honest opinion and a great article!

^^^WifelovesLuke, I hear what you’re sayin about “what a lousy world we live in”, but that’s also the beauty of this world… there’s both sides to it. There are the haters that will hate for their own reasons simply because we’re all different people and then there are gonna be people like us, who are Kobe fans and will see him for his talents and skills and appreciate him for trying to achieve the goals that he’s set his mind to.

That’s not to say that I’m gonna see eye to eye on everything he does to try to achieve that goal, but that is the BEAUTY of this world… we’re all different and we all have our own preferences of likes and dislikes!

Unlike you, I did hate on Bird and Jordan and all the other greats that were the Lakers’ opponents because that’s how I’m wired. I needed to hate on them to support my team! I’ve always respected them and their game, but I HATED them because I knew what they can do against our team. Now that they’ve retired… I can truly appreciate them for what they represented and had to offer to the world of basketball.

For some, they’ll be like me… able to finally let their guards down and appreciate the players AFTER they retire. Others, no matter what, they will continue to hate. That’s their perogative. I just hope that they can some day let their guards down too because if they don’t, it will be their loss… they will have truly missed out on one of the greatest players to ever play this game! To really sit back and see everything that he’s done and will continue to do… AMAZING, SIMPLY AMAZING!

    Great point.

Its the Legacy people hate’ hear anyone hating the Clippers. The Lakers have been a great Franchise for Decades and thats what some people hate. The Laker records speak for themselves. May they be hated well into the next Decade and beyond. After Kobe the next Great player to come along will be in Los Angeles. Great Cities attract Great Players. LA’S history has proven that.
