Here’s some quotes from his latest interview:

“I don’t want to play somewhere else, I really don’t.”

“Phil is the guy I lean on a lot. For clarity, for hope, and right now it’s no different.”

“Now looking back, it’s not that their competent, they had a long term plan.”

“If you wanna do something, do something now. Get this team turned around.”

“I can trust Phil, that’s all I have to go off of.”

“My problem comes in, tell me one thing, doing another. Blaming me for things…”

“I’m just happy the truth is out there finally.”

“Show me [the trust].”

“A phone call would help [on rebuilding trust].”

“I’d love to, I’d like to know what the hell is going on [on management getting together with him].”

“If there trust. . . I’m staying.”

“It’s not me [on wearing a different jersey].”

“I want to stay here.”

“Me & Shaq coexisted because of our killer instinct on the court.”

It sounds like Kobe isn’t really sure what he wants right now. I think he might have realized he spoke hastily to Stephen A., and perhaps if the Lakers can pull something off we can get Kobe to stay.

  • http://ld2k.com LD2k

This interview made me believe he wants to be here in Los Angeles.

  • http://www.anthonytanaka.com Anthony

damn, I know he wants to be here but he is right, that trust issue is a big deal. To keep playing and have to look over your shoulder all of the time to make sure nothing is going to bug you. That has to be horrible. I think I am going to pick up the domain to keep kobe and start a site for him. I am a laker fan yes, but the sweat of the players is what makes the lakers, and no one sweats more than Kobe.

    WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?

  • Jeff

I need the folks here at getgarnett.com to help me organize a Lakers fan rally this saturday at 12 noon to encourage the firing of Mitch Cupcake…

  • BIff Tannen

From what I’ve read so far, Phil talked him off the ledge. I’ve always wondered if Phil is the one holding the key to this whole drama. When he was re-hired in 2005, there was much speculation that he would coach for a few seasons, then move upstairs. Could it be possible that he was promised the GM job down the line? Could it be possible that he informed Kobe of the possibility that this scenario would be accelerated in the face of this crisis? What if we ended up with Phil Jackson as Head Coach and GM?

kobe wantsa stay in his heart but in his head he has trust issues and the BUSS family are a bunch of liars…kobe needs help…hes gonna meet up wit Magic johnson and see what happens

  • http://www.myspace.com/stevesspace TheEclectic

Kobe just say he wants to stay after talking to Phil Jackson and after the Stephen A. Smith – check front page of ESPN.

  • Skim

This “insider” is portrayed as someone who screwed the Lakers. Although he said some bad things about Kobe, this guy might be the guy who brings the Lakers back to being championship contenders. He said some lies about Kobe. Even though this happened if Kobe does end up staying in the Lakers, this could be the jump start that the Laker organization needs to make a move and help Kobe contend for the championship.

  • cmoney

we need to make another website, KeepKobe.com cuz I can’t imagine the Lakers without Kobe…he’s been with them ever since I started watching the NBA as a kid, trading him would be my ultimate basketball nightmare and I don’t want to have to confront it until he retires….Kobe’s has made plenty of mistakes but his comments on this topic are warranted especially considering the last three years

  • kenshi1023

    kobe is too emotional.

  • Kobe Hater

Someone please change Kobe’s diaper, he’s getting too wet! I’m a Laker fan but enough is enough, no more drama! More Championships!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/kebbbb KeBin

Jeff i agree with you lets get mitch the hell outta here..and kobe isnt too emotional he is just a competitor..hes tired of losing and hes been bitin his tounge for the past 3 years..management has done nothing to help him..and the best player in the league doesnt deserve this kind of treatment..in the end of the day lets just hope that laker management gets kobe some help..cuz lets face it with this team..we are going no where..its still lakers all day everyday lets jus hope for the best

  • Just_A_Laker_Fan

I believe Kobe was just angery with the Management and just wanted to blow off some steam inside of him. Really this is a big wake up call for the Lakers office to do something and do it now. If we have to pay over the limit to get this team going do it. A lost of this type of player will surely hurt them a lot more. Yes we have traded players for good ones in the past but I don’t believe that right now esepcially trades with Shaq and Butler. Someone will get fired today who ever said that in the Lakers Insider. This blaming game doesn’t put the team forward but only backwards. Don’t be like the Celtics or the Pacers or the Wolves. They wanted to rebuild back in the beginning and they are still stuck there for a long long time.

I still think Brown who has one more year left on his contract for Artest would be good for the Lakers. Picking up Rashard Lewis even if we have to go over the Cap. Billups could also be a possibility and couple others out there. If the Lakers want Kobe to get his trust back they will have to go over the CAP…… Next move will be not just Mitch but with Jerry and Jim Buss.

  • David

To say the things Kobe said he made it clear he wants to be traded. I think he changed what he said so he doesn’t sound desperate to get out of their so the Lakers can get equal value for him. I hope I am wrong though.

  • lakkadakka

He is really behaving like a child at this point. If you are a man, you make your stand and you stick by it.

What ever happen to Getting Garnett?? Ain’t that what we all really wanted? If Kobe keeps up his antics, Magic, Buss, Phil, Kareem, and Lakers Co. will end up shipping him to the ATL where the players play but don’t win anything. In return we’ll be able to get a whole bunch of new badass players.

But for now, as it seems that Kobe is cooling off, let’s make sure we can get our little “Jordan” his “Scottie Pippen” in a Kevin Garnett or a Jermaine O’Neal, or someone alike. Kobe’s lookin like Jordan in the 80′s, a show all to himself keeping our game tickets high and our hopes low.

I still smell a draft pick trade for Greg Oden (a center predicted to QUICKLY be up there with Russell, Abdul Jabbar, and Shaq). Lakers never won a championship without a Hall-of-Fame center. And just like Shaq diss’ed all the ca$h money and fame from the Magic to be with the Lakers, we need loyalty. That’s some Laker real sh*t that turns into championships.

I made I read this wrong…But you aren’t seriously comparing Kobe to Jordan are you? Agreed Kobe is the greatest in the league right now. But he isn’t anywhere close to being Michael Jordan.
But yeah, Portland has some really good players and the 1st pick. I think that would be a good trade.

I do compare Kobe to Jordan, definitely. The two of them have the same scoring and athletic output and prowess. Some say Kobe is a bit better defensively, and I can agree, so that definitely makes him comparable. Jordan though has 6 NBA titles and MVPs. Kobe just half of the first. The difference is that Jordan knew how to sneak up on a team and beat them with his own game MUCH more often than Kobe. Jordan was very PATIENT. But both fools with the ball are as good and scary as it gets, drawing no less than double-teams in every play.

Jordan more swift and air. Kobe more muscle and contact. Same score.

Keep in mind, Jordan has always claimed he was never the best. He believes he can’t be since he never got a chance to consistently play in serious competition against the Magic’s and Bird’s. Those two fools knew how to win championships and collect their MVP’s.

Money= politics. And this move is all about politics. Kobe doesn’t want to leave LA he wants to protect his interests. Before, Jerry Buss was protecting his interets. He was making revenue and looking to build a team that would make him the most money over the long term. (Don’t beleive for a second that the two parties involved have the same interests, they don’t.) Kobe is just protecting his interests (i.e, money, championship, honor). Kobe has power and he flexed his muscles. He is challanging the organization to mold themselves to his interests. They have a choice to make. Either comply with Kobe and spend more money, but win championships now; or get rid of Kobe and build a new team and save some money and win later. Either way I respect Kobe for protecting his interests and actually giving a shit about being competitive now. Good work!
