Kobe NationSpecial thanks to David Brickley for writing this take and giving us the privilege to add it to GetGarnett.com. If you have an article that is Lakers related and you know that it will interest our readers, feel free to e-mail us and will add it to the blog. Thanks!

Being a diehard Kobe/Lakers fan I can’t get enough of Laker news. Regardless of the time period it always seems that ESPN has some kind of documentary or lead story involving the Lakers. The Lakers sell, and the media knows that.

When the Lakers lost this year in the playoffs people were putting Kobe down. “He can’t win without Shaq,” “the Lakers will never win,” and, “they choked.” Forgetting the fact that the best team in the league the Dallas Mavericks got knocked out in the first round, forgetting the fact that the reigning NBA champion Miami Heat not only got beat but got swept by the Chicago Bulls? You’re telling me the most dominant big man in NBA history can’t even get one win against the Bulls, regardless of injuries to Dwayne Wade and others. Shaq could have gotten one win right? Kobe did? But it never seems to be enough.

The reason why Kobe wakes up every morning at 4:30am, the reason why he comes back every season with a better game is because he wants to WIN, more than anything. More than Jerry Buss, More than Phil Jackson. Kobe will fail but will not accept failure. He is the only guy you want to go to battle with. Score 81, dish out 15 assists, or lock-down the other team’s best player. Dirk doesn’t do that, T-Mac doesn’t do that, Wade doesn’t do that, AI, Carmelo.

Everybody in the league concedes that Kobe Bryant is a killer assassin, the best player in the league, and the guy you want with the ball down one with a few seconds remaining. He is the best, not MJ but definitely this generation’s Michael Jordan. However, for this fairy tale to end happily Kobe has to be known as a winner, not as someone that was the best but never really had the help he needed.

Saying all that Kobe still went on Stephen A’s show in the wrong manner; he talked to Stephen A. as a friend. Speaking on pure emotion and frustration. When I call a friend when I’m in a tough situation, I vent. You go off and display how much angry and resentment you have. After talking to Phil Jackson he realized that he just needs to calm down and see if the Lakers can re-build that trust and get back to their winning ways.

The fact is they will and they have to if they want any chance in becoming winners in the near future. Regardless of winning, Kobe is the reason Staples Center is sold out, Kobe is the reason the Lakers have the best road attendance in the league. He is the best, and it is every NBA fans goal to see this guy in person. People at Laker games might be known as stuck up or not crazy like Sacramento, or Golden State. But, the true Laker fans are on this site and KB24.com. These are the diehard fans, these are the fans that saw Kobe shoot the Air balls in Utah, these are the fans that saw Kobe put the team on his back against the Pacers when Shaq went out. These are the fans that saw Kobe in trial in Colorado, fly back, get to the arena in the 3rd quarter, and hit the game winner against the Nuggets.

We have been with Kobe, through the Ups, and the Downs. He is the best, We have fought and argued with the Kobe haters, explained why he is the true MVP, explained to the non-Laker followers that Kobe didn’t rape anybody he was just wrongfully accused. Just like some women cry when there favorite Character in a soap opera is killed off the show, girls cried when NSYNC broke up. We as Laker Nation felt very sad and down yesterday when Kobe made that statement. It’s because the FANS have seen them through the ups and the downs. Regardless if I’ve hung out with Kobe in person or not, I feel like I know him. All true Laker fans know Kobe, he loves us, and we love him. Kobe will not leave the Lakers. Bring some guys in, and get back to contending for titles.

Because that’s all we know as Laker fans and that’s all Kobe knows is to Win and Win at the ultimate level.

That’s the most honest, realistic take on this whole situation. Kobe is more to us( true fans ) than just another basketball player. We do feel like we know him and the funny thing is that we are proud of him and we feel like we’re right beside him when he wins. Sad…NO!…it’s a part of being a true sports fan. Laker fans are spoiled…we are! Honestly, i don’t give a damn about what anybody may say…my 14 year old son and I were sad and I know that he was a lil’ depressd , nothing out of hand but he’s a huge Laker/Kobe fan. I love my sports teams and yes i am proud of Kobe when he lights up the best because I’m a Kobe fan and that’s how we feel …we want him to win more awards, titles, ect. We do believe him when he said he didn’t RAPE that money hungry tramp. We do believe him when he says “I JUST WANT A CHANCE TO WIN AGAIN”…. We do believe him when he say’s ” I don’t wana go no where else”…We do feel a bit betrayed by the Busses…Kobe says he wants to win NOW and not in two years…hell, we feel the same way or we wouldn’t waste our time writing on these sites. We have a life and Kobe and the Lakers are a part of it. Above and beyond all else…we believe Kobe when he says that given the tools that Michael and all the other greats had…he can and will win IN L.A.!!!

Great article! Feel exactly the same way. He’s been the true MVP of the league for the past 3 years. He loves the Lakers as did Magic – wake up and get him some help – Cupcake hit the road! The guy learns from the best GM ever and pulls off some of the worse trades ever. Thanks Kobe for all the kickass play and hard work you put in every year – Laker fans support you 110%!!

  • kgmvp

Great article! Kobe is the best player in the nba!
He wont leave! Cause im sure that the Lakers front office will make smart deals in this coming off season. For me im sure that
were going to get that 2nd guy it will be JO or KG for sure.
Kobe the best player in the world!!!!!!!!!
    Go Lakers

  • Skim.

    True Kobe fans. Great article.

  • Ballsamus

By the way…the Lakers were not the top draw on the road or in the NBA the top draw on the road was the Miami Heat as they averaged the highest attendance at road games and the hightest total attendance in road games followed by Cleveland and then the Lakers! Get your facts straight before just talking! Sounds like both Wade and LeBron are bigger draws than Kobe is…

  • Ballsamus

and my Bulls were the top overall draw in the league, Go Chicago!!! About time…

  • Mikey Leo

    GREAT ARTICLE… GO LAKE SHOW…

  • http://myspace.com/dbricks dbricks33

-According to Ross Siler, Staff Writer for the Daily news and ESPN’s “True Hoop” by Henry Abbott, “The Lakers are the biggest draw in the NBA, leading the league in road attendance” (Articles were written in May of 2007).
    – Also just some sub notes. Kobe Bryant got MVP chants on the road, including the hated rival Boston, not to mention New York, Atlanta, Sacramento, Denver, Minnesota, and San Antonio.
-Also released by NBA.com THE STORE Lakers were #1 in NBA merchandise. I wonder what jersey people are buying? (Kobe Bryant #1 in personal jerseys sold this year.)
    – So until you boy Lebron and D-Wade get MVP chants multiple times on the road… come holler at me.

I dont just talk; ( I think you just talk)
So basically I know my stuff, but thanks for trying BALLSAMUS! :)

    Peace!
    Yours Truly,
    David Brickley

YES, YES, YES…ONCE AGAIN!! YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT!!! MAY 30, 2007 WAS A SAD DAY FOR LAKERS NATION/KOBE DIE HARD FANS. I WAS FOLLOWING UP THROUGH INTERNET, RADIO STATIONS, AND FINALLY T.V. JUST WATCHING HOPING KOBE DID NOT GET TRADED. I EVEN CRIED WHEN KOBE ANNOUCED THAT HE WANTED TO GET TRADED. BUT I SAID IF THE LAKERS MANAGEMENT WORK LIKE THAT (LYING, MISLEADING, AND KEEP MAKING DUMB MOVES)I HURTFULLY, BUT TRULY HOPED KOBE STOOD FIRMLY WITH HIS DEMAND ON BEING TRADED AND HOPEFULLY DID GET TRADED TO A BETTER (?) TEAM. BUT I ALSO THOUGHT WAIT KOBE IS THE “LAKERS” HOW COULD HE. BUT REGARDLESS OF WHETHER HE WENT I AS A TRUE KOBE FAN WOULD FOLLOW HIM WHERE EVER HE WENT (I HOPED AND STILL HOPE HE DOESN’T GO TO THE PAPER CLIPS AKA CLIPPERS) BUT IF IT TOOK HIM THERE I WOULD STILL WATCH HIM AND CHEER FOR HIM! PLEASE LAL MANAGEMENT DUMP THE ZERO’S (Kwame Brown,Brian Cook,Aaron McKie,Smush Parker, Vladimir Radmanovic,Sasha Vujacic,Shammond Williams, AND FINALLY BUT NOT LEAST MITCH CUPCAKE) & “GET MORE HERO’S”.

  • AMANDA BAIN
