This is respect where its due, and for Kobe, its been due for a while now. Congrats Black Mamba!

Kobe Bryant, a 13-time All-Star, 4-time NBA champion and a 1-time NBA MVP and Finals MVP. What is it that this man has done in his career that has all the fans wooing and going crazy when ever he steps on the court?

Well how about establishing himself as one of the most, if not, the most clutch player in this history of the game. Whether he is 1-12, 8-20, or 0-36, he will take the last shot of the game and he will get it in. It is that killer instinct that fuels him to stick the dagger into the hearts of the opponents and to tell the crowd to sit down and be quiet (on the road).

He has been able to add four rings to his basketball records, 13 All Stars (missing All Star 2010 because of injury) and not to mention the fact that he will light up anyone that guards him. He has had over 100 40+ point games and a few 60+ point games including his 3 most famous ones, an 81 point game against the Toronto Raptors setting a record for second most points scored right after Wilt’s 100, 61 points in Madison Square Garden which set an all time record for most points in that building, and his 62 points in 3 quarters against the Dallas Mavericks which is really mind blowing!

Now he might not be as popular as LeBron in terms of media and commercials but has that stopped Kobe from achieving his goals of becoming the best he can be and win more NBA Championships? Well no, in fact, it has been an advantage for him because that way he isn’t distracted by all the cameras and flashing lights.

Kobe earning this honor is not only big for him, but big for LA and the Laker fans. The man that represents this wonderful franchise has been named player of t

      lol……….. wtf son.

  • thanhttrinh

look at the votes from TNT
    kobe: 54%
    lebron: 17%
my question is: what did lebron have done to become a player of decade ? How about Tim DUncan(3x) ? Shaq(4x) ?
What a shame, Lebron was pissing when Wade got his All Star MVP !
Congratulations to the BEST PLAYERS ON PLANET BTW, ITS MAMBA TIME baby

    • Gino

In terms of legacy and impact on NBA last decade, i’d have to agree with you. my order for P.O.D. would’ve been:
      Kobe
      Shaq
      Duncan
      Tie: Wade, Billups, Garnett
      .
everyone else from these players’ teams you can order behind them because they were the role-players who helped contribute to these guys winning their rings last decade.
      .
i’d have to say that jason kidd, allen iverson, and steve nash are starting to creep into that category of “greatest players without a ring”.
      .
non-ring winners like carmelo and lebron shouldn’t even be on this list because their impact came so late last decade and they haven’t won a ring yet. their impact is yet to be seen for the current one (2010-2019) and we shall see how their legacy plays out.

  • thanhttrinh

    Duncan(2x)* im srr !

    • Gino

      no you were correct. (3x, 2003, 2005, 2007) and once in ’99.

  • mr.laker19

How did Barkley kenny ernie c webb and Mchale not have Kobe as the player of the decade??? Kobe ruled the decade, 6 nba finals, 4 ships, mvp, finals mvp, most points scored in the decade, too many individual game records and buzzer beaters to count. Duncan and Shaq are good but come on, really? Who else is there? Mamba, congrats. Long live KB24!!!

  • drive-for-16th

HAHAHA, YEAH MAMBA, CHARLES BARKLEY IS A FUCKING HATER, AND FUK KEVIN MCHALE TOO, STUPID AS CELTIC. LEBRON DIDNT DESERVE TO BE ON THAT LIST. WHERE THE HELL WAS IVERSON ON THE LIST. TNT FUKED THEM SELVES OVER, THEY PROBABLY THOUGHT PEOLE WOULD VOTE FOR LEBRON, CAUSE HES SO LOVED BY THE MEDIA, BUT THE FANS HAVE SPOKEN, THE WORLD HAS SPOKEN. THE KING OF THE NBA IS KOBE BRYANT AKA THE BLACK MAMBA. KEEP HATING HATERS. HAHHAHAHA

    • http://www.mixmakers.net/forums/ Imadogg

CAPS doesn’t help. And TNT didn’t want Lebron to win. The analysts were saying Shaq or Tim over Kobe, not Lebron. Wtf? ………….

  • drive-for-16th

I LOVE IT WHEN PPL HATE ON US(THE LAKERS) WE ARE ALL LAKERS, HATE ON OUR ORGANIZATION, HATE ON OUR BEST PLAYER ALSO THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD AND WE WILL JUST KEEP WINNING AND PROVING IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT WE ARE THE BEST AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST!!!!!!

    • http://www.mixmakers.net/forums/ Imadogg

What’s that have to do with anything. Shaq won 3 titles for the Lakers and almost all the analysts chose Shaq.

      • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

are you on the right sight? wtf?

  • drive-for-16th

after kobe won charles barkley said “this is why fans should never vote”

    • Green Flannel

did he elaborate because that was an intense insult.

      • Gino

no, he only said that the 3peat was shaq’s and shaq brought wade’s championship to miami. i dunno, but i’m pretty livid that this ignoramous is allowed to talk. sure he’s entertaining and speaks his mind, but there are times when just makes absolutely no sense.
        .
that’s why when shaq said “i’ve come to bring the ring for the king” it makes me so upset that he thinks he’s the sole reason why the teams win rings. it was TEAM effort, not a one-man shaq show.

        • alex

actually when shaq said that, if you watched later parts of the interview he did, he said something to the effect that he knows his role is strictly as a high level role player. So here are some quotes from that interview. Ignorance for the win, Gino….

“My motto is very simple: Win a ring for the king,” Cavaliers center Shaquille O’Neal said.

“I won’t be the guy by myself,” he said yesterday at Cleveland Clinic Courts. “It takes a great effort. It’s going to take a team, city, organizational effort to get it done

          • Gino

good catch alex. i stand corrected. i’ll take back what i said about shaq.

  • drive-for-16th

taht is an insult to kobe and every fan who voted him

    • B Holland

No it is an insult to every fan that voted.

  • Kobe The Myth

No one listens to this fucking moron hog Barkley… He keeps on barking nonsense… If I know, he’s having hard-on every time he sees the Mamba… Long Live Kobe… the G.O.A.T…Go Lakers Go!

  • http://www.mixmakers.net/forums/ Imadogg

Kobe is my player of the decade. Though Tim Duncan 4th…….. WTF. I would say it could go either way between Tim and Kobe. Shaq is a strong 3rd (perhaps could be 1-2 but he’s 3rd to me) since he was SOOO dominant the first half of the decade, then won in 06 and just fell off bad.

    • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

yea i see what your saying, but if kobe wasnt player of the decade.he’d be just another good player..like the t-macs or carters.but he is kobe! so it’s pretty much a no brainer.i personly wish they wouldnt put people on the spot like that..it’s a team game! no one wins alone!but if there was one and only one great it’s wilt! he’s babe ruth!but like i said..it’s a lakers thing..not just a kobe thing..even if he has the most skill and i.q. and not have to be huge an dominant..alot like mike!just a dude that can play! k-o-b-e !

  • thanhttrinh

    2000 – 2009 so Duncan won 3( except the 99).
but my point is, Lebron should not be named on that list !
kobe has done everything( MVPs, rings, 81, individual style, clutch situations).

  • http://singoramalessonsrevealed.com Varick Hudson

I was really taken aback to hear Charles Barkley first make the statement,” that is why I feel the fans should not be allowed to vote” because the fans voted My Man KOBE Bean Bryant The Greatest Player Of The Decade. Not only was that an Insulting statement he shows the same arrogance and disrespect for those of us responsible for him being in the business he is in, the fans of the great sport of basket ball as does the rest of the sports media who thinks fans should not be allowed to vote on the MVP, that, that honor should only go to the coaches and the players of the game of basketball . I thought Charles Barkley was A Great Basket Ball Player, but he certainly is no Rhodes Scholar. This guy has beans for brains and continues to insult the people responsible for his salary. The rest of that TNT Crew also need to have there heads examined on this one, as well. I do think they all have a bias against KOBE and that is why They have all tried to insert Lebanon James (got that name from a T.V. show for him) when clearly he was not even a blimp on the radar until recently, and this season since the arrival of Shaq. Speaking of Shaq, Dwight Howard said it best with this most recent controversy over this Superman Title, Shaq should be acting more like someone the younger players learn from instead of continuously attempting to try to overshadow them all. But I digress, The man of the hour The Player of the hour, My MVP this year, The Player of the Decade is One KOBE Bean Bryant. Make no mistake about it. The People all around the world of the NBA have spoken.

  • 242LakerFan

Barkley needs to go eat a donut. You know he wants one.
Kobe or Tim Duncan were the only two top contenders for this award. Shaq was the beast at the beginning of the decade for sure, but he’s been nowhere near the top in the last few years. Timmy is still a force to be reckoned with. But Kobe has been on top the whole decade. Say what you want about Shaq and the 3peat, we don’t win without him, but we don’t come close without Kobe, either. Neither one can claim those chips at his alone. So in my opinion, that gives Kobe the edge with one more Championship appearance than Shaq, if you want to talk strictly numbers.
Congratulations fans, despite what Barkley says you got it right.

  • 242LakerFan

By the way, the decade actually runs 2001-2010, so this is premature to begin with and Kobe will finish the real decade with 5 rings.

    • http://www.mixmakers.net/forums/ Imadogg

That makes zero sense. So 2000 is a part of the 1990s? Yea…….. 2010 isn’t a part of the ’10s? Think dude, think. And according to your “decade”, Kobe would still have 4 rings if we win this year, since his 2000 title wouldn’t count.

  • Kobe The Myth

    Lets shout… 1… 2… 3… RINGS… Kobe, the G.O.A.T., Lakers for life…

  • keepon_keepinon18

That vote seemed completely fan-based. I mean LeBron taking in 17% compared to Shaq 13%, Timmy 8%?!

I disagreed with Chuck that Kobe shouldn’t have been the Player of the Decade but I did agree with him that Shaq deserves credit for winning with the Heat. This was a tough call for clear-cut winner though. Shaq has fallen off since that Championship so, if not Kobe, Tim Duncan deserves this award. My reasoning for Kobe is that he went from winning the 3-peat with Shaq through 3 straight thirty-forty win seasons before rising to win his 4th Championship.

I didn’t think LeBron deserved it (Wade should have ranked higher than him [1 ring]). Nash’s 2 straight MVPs aren’t demonstrative of the whole decade. KG definitely deserved more than 3% and Iverson surely belonged in that Top 6. That 76ers team did suck and leading them to the Finals and forcing the Lakers first loss in the Playoffs with 48pts had to mean something.

    • keepon_keepinon18

Team/Franchise of the Decade = Spurs

    • 242LakerFan

      “That vote seemed completely fan-based.”
Ummm, yeah, it WAS a fan poll.

      • keepon_keepinon18

I meant popularity (i.e. why LeBron and Kobe had such a high percentage).

  • Josh in Da 310

Congrats to Kobe he’s just phenomenal one of the best ever! Charles Barkley is the biggest piece of shit of all time, right next to Lebitch James. Who the fuk pays this guy to be a broadcaster bcuz they need to get bitch slapped for hiring him. Also, stupid Kobe haters (drive for 16th) little bitch, tell Kobe how his ass taste’s.
    hahahahahaha

  • Josh in Da 310

Oops I meant piece of shit Kobe hater to A million misses not drive for 16..my bad..
Million misses is the amount of times this loser couldnt find the right hole to stick it in. lol loser

  • Popcorn

I thought the voters got it right. People could argue that Shaq was the “man” in those three-peat ships but so was Kobe since Shaq never won any ring before playing with Kobe. Shaq imo is a bit over rated because if the question implies the best of the decade 2000-2010 then Shaq skill wise isn’t no where close to even Duncan and and again if we are talking about over all skills, leadership, buzzer beaters, records Kobe all the way man. Shaq dominated because his size basically.
Shaq was a monster that lived in the paint because of his size that’s all. He will push the defenders under the basket and either dunk, layup the ball or score with a short hook shot. During his prime he was very good defender but then again because of his size and he basically lived in the paint area. Besides after the Lakers won the 3 rings he went downhill fast. He only got a 4th ring because the league; cough (Stern) gift wrapped it for the Heat. Yeah, I think Stern dislikes Cuban so he made sure to give them all the calls to the Heat in that series. Duncan is imo better than Shaq because he has more skill than Shaq and he has been playing better longer than Shaq. I will say that the best players of the decade are Kobe and Timmy but Kobe has the edge because he is still younger than Duncan and has a good chance of getting another ring this season. BTW the decade isn’t over yet; one more ring for Kobe and he will be in the elite position that Magic has been for a while. LeBron is making all the noise this year; if the Lakers end up in the finals against the Cavs I can only hope that they call it fair because I know Stern wants see LeBron win a ring for a long time. To be honest I’m hoping the Lakers to go to the finals and maybe play either Celchics or the Tragic in the Finals because Lerefs will make sure the most minimum touch on Lebron is a foul while they (Cavs) can get away with all kind of BS.
Get healthy Kobe and we will be in good shape to make a run.
    Go Lakers. Let’s do this!…

  • Popcorn

BTW, I think Charles Barkley is nothing but a hater. He hates the fact that Kobe is compared to Jordan, he hates that he picked the Tragic over the Lakers last year to win it all and the Lakers proved him wrong. And if I remember correctly he was the first one to say that” Kobe is that good because he plays with Shaq”. I knew he was going to protest that Kobe was selected the player of the decade by a land slide. Lol ; I just wish the Lakers win another one just to see his fat ass face mad again. Lmao
Let’s go Lakers. Let’s make chunky butt mad as hell again. Lol

  • 242LakerFan

    101

  • Popcorn

Nope, Kobe has been compared to MJ from the beginning by fans, couches, players broadcasters etc. Ask Mark Jackson, Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Tex Winter. lol

  • Stephen A Smith

Charles why oh why do you keep hatin on Kobe? He’s the best player of the decade! What you need to do, is get in the gym before you get a heart attack, you can see the hate all over your balloon face.

  • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

why are you always here?you should go suck on lepunks douche nozzle lol!! go lakers!!!

  • Robert

First, Kobe is the Player of the Millennium, because the millennium just started (Y2K +). Yes it’s only 10 years old, but it’s still a new millennium!
    .
Second, the All-Star game sucked, because Kobe wasn’t there. The West would have won if Kobe were there.
    .
Third, Kobe is to basketball, like Tiger is to golf. He’s the BIGGEST reason fans watch the sport. Everyone wants to see Kobe play. Players in other stadiums FILL the stadium just to see Kobe. And also, as we know, Tiger saved the golf industry. Kobe is keeping the basketball industry interesting, just like MJ did it in the 90s, just like Magic did it in the 80s.
    .
The media want to crown LeNoRing, but it’s too early. Kobe will win at least 2 more rings, and probably more before LePutz even has a chance. The media doesn’t accept that Kobe is STILL ON TOP! He won’t let up. Even through injuries this year, he’s still in the top few leading scorers. And when those injuries heal completely, look out! The Player of the Millennium is coming!

  • lakers2000

Let’s see, you live with mom, have no girlfriend / boyfriend / partner, sit on the internet posting ish talk behind a keyboard, and play with yourself because that is the only pu$$y you will ever be able to touch? I’ll bet I’m on fire like Kobe’s shoes, right loser? Thanks for coming and don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split you, you fcuking troll.

  • Adam

It’s only justice. Lebron may be the overall best player at the moment, but it comes easy for him thanks to his size and physical prowess. In terms of pure basketball skill, I doubt anyone was ever better than Kobe.

  • rico
