Kobe mentoring for defense/Gasol trying to get physical

Two interesting tidbits…

L.A. Times: Jackson credited Kobe Bryant for helping his teammates with their defensive schemes, saying it’s his most impressive footprint on the season to date.

“I think he’s taken more time to individually talk to guys about defense or how to defend certain people on the opposing team,” Jackson said. “We talk about tendencies and about characteristics with players, and Kobe, a lot of the time, takes it the next step and actually talks to guys about how they should half a guy or front somebody if he’s a post player. Or the fact if he’s decidedly a right or a left or whatever footwork he might use. He’ll usually add that information.”

As for Gasol, looks like Kareem is going to toughen him up

Daily News: Gasol wasn’t happy about the physical abuse he took Tuesday from Sacramento’s Brad Miller. Gasol watched a replay of one hard foul before Sunday’s game and received some advice from assistant coach Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on how to defend himself.

good defense on one end will ultimately lead to excellent offense on the other…kudos to kobe for understanding that, the rest of the team, eh, they have some work to do

  • kushking

let gasol hit some weights. or at least eat something. he looks like a meth addict. he needs to put on some weight so he can bang around with the big dogs. his offense is straight but the “d” is really lacking

  • Michael_23

Good advice from the Captain Kareem. He knows how to bang and take hits. Afterall, he did play against the physical Celtics and the Detroit bad boys in the 80s.

  • DCLAKER

Gasol getting advice from Kareem about “toughness”,he might start fightin’ before the game starts like “I’M A LAKER NOW,B@$#*,WHOP!!!

  • vida24

good to hear that ! cuz they all need to work on there defense !

  • Lakers

GASOL WAS FOULED IN THE LAST PLAY THAT AND1 WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE GAME WE COULD HAVE AT LEAST GONE TO OT NOT TO MENTION ALL THE OTHER CALLS THAT THE LAKERS DIDNT GET THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT EVEN THE LAKERS WERE GETTING SOME BREAKS IN THE GAME IT WAS CALLED REALY BADLY BY THE OFFICIALS…

true gasol should gain weight, but only muscle. i can see pau possibly burning 40 lbs of fat and gaining 50 lbs of muscle. besides the power foreward needs to be quick

  • KObe24

I WANT PAU TO BE THE OLD SHAQ BAGING PEOPLE IN THE PAINT, RIGHT NOW I THINK WE ALL KNOW HES A WEAK PLAYER

  • BEC

Our defense isnt really a problem like many may think. With our offense being so good, best in the NBA imo, defense doesnt have to be “spurs” like. The problem that ive seen in the last several games is our guys being complacent and not playing a full 48 min, that to me is the biggest problem. Our D is good when the efforts their, lakers giveup 71 in first half to kings but limit them to 43 in the second. Lakers only played 24 min in that game. Come playoff time im sure that wont be a problem though.

i dont think he will ever be banging like that, his game is totally different.

PAU’S GAME IS JUST FINE…HE JUST NEEDS TO BE A LIL MORE AGRESSIVE !!! AND WITH KAREEM WORKING WITH HIM,IT WILL HAPPEN!!!

  • DCLAKER

They don’t need Pau to be that aggressive, that’s why Bynum step his game up,he’s a ticking timebomb now, cussing on live television, yelling at teammates, referees(I love that best)etc.

Pau is more finesse, where Bynum is more brute force and LO is the facilitater, hence my nickname for the 3 headed MONSTA that is “LAKEZILLA”. SAYHELLOTOTHEBADGUYS.com,WHERE 25 IN A ROW HAPPENS”!!!

  • xxv112002

I think Pau should work out with Bynum & his trainer this coming off season. I mean, look what Bynum has turned out to be! Kudos to his trainer.

  • DCLAKER

    Thank Kareem(THE GREATNESS) Abdul-Jabaar!
