Shaq stopped talking trash this year (following Kobe’s way). He was going to just let a Championship speak for him, with LeBrick. Snaq was pretty quiet for a while, but just vaporized after the Cavs loss. Maybe he should have kept talking, just to keep it interesting.
    .
Snaq is like a movie star, a personality. He should just keep the show going instead of pretending like he’s serious about basketball. If he were serious, he would have many more than 4 rings, including a few more with the Lakers. I hate to say this, but he wasted his talents. It’s too late now.
    .
Snaq is entertaining, and I would like to see a few more movies (maybe another ‘genie’ movie, or something), or a reality show. But as far as a basketball championship is concerned, it’s over for him. Still would like to see him lumbering around the court. He can still play a little, and sometimes it does remind me of the glory years when he was here.
    .
But it’s too late. Kobe is on his way to the greatest. This is just a stepping stone. Shaq can watch the glory from his big screen TV.

he really is an actor! kazzam

Read the news today, sources say Jordan Farmar will be let go along with Free Agents Mbenga, Powell & Morrison. Kupchack will be looking at two positions: A veteran big and a point guard. Here’s what the 2011 roster can look like with one of the unrestricted players I think can fit the position without giving up size and length and we can positively get for cheap. Note: Kupchack said Lakers will not be using the full MLE.
    .
    2011 Lakers Roster:
    .
    PG Derek Fisher/Steve Blake/Sergio Rodriguez/Rafer Alston/Shaun Livingston
    .
    SG Kobe Bryant/Shannon Brown/Sasha Vujacic
    .
    SF Ron Artest/Luke Walton
    .
    PF Pau Gasol/Lamar Odom/Juwan Howard/Drew Gooden
    .
    C Andrew Bynum/Brendan Haywood/Tyson Chandler/Jermaine O’Neal/Shaquille O’Neal/Nazr Mohammed/Jamaal Magloire
    .
I really like Brendan as our starting/backup Center. He’s a 7-1 rebounder/shot blocker. He also plays like Drew offensively he keeps the ball high. Hope we can nab him for cheap.
    .
Note: On Jan 2011 Marc Gasol will become a restricted Free Agent. I wonder if that is the reason Kupchack does not want to spent all of the MLE?
    .
    What say you??

Not too bad, but most of the players you listed are old and we will be adding age to our team. Thats not what we want. Just look at what it did to the Celtics.
For point guard, the best one out there in this year’s free agent market is Raymond Felton. I say we make a serious push for him.

      • xxv112002

The Lakers want an experienced big man which they will be using for the Vet Min. Lakers will not use the full MLE. Lakers are once again over the cap for 2011. Here’s the Link:

        http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakers-whats-next-20100619,0,4088566.story

They want a big to replace seldom used Powell & Mbenga. This move will not hurt the Lakers front line or youth. This will be a great move especially if they can somehow lure Brendan Haywood to receive the Vet Min. If not, there are older, more experienced free agents that can produce more stats than Mbenga & Powell combined. Although I like Mbenga’s energy & effort everytime he steps onto the floor.

We really need to make some changes to our bench. As much as I like Jordan, I think he would like to go elsewhere for more minutes and I don’t blame him.

I think Mbenga, Powell, Morrison, will most likely be let go. That leaves us with our core basically, if Shannon decides to stay for his second year on his contract.

Andrew, Pau, Lamar, Ron, Kobe, Fish, Walton, Sasha, Shannon.

I think we can make a huge difference by adding another point guard (many are saying Steve Blake, and I do agree or Luke Ridnour), a veteran big man, and what I think would put us over the top is a solid offensive player off the bench (similar to a Jason Terry/Jamal Crawford, but of course for less money).

  • ricky

Some of the unrestrcited FA names I would like to see as Lakers.

Let’s bring back Javaris Crittenton and either Steve Blake or Luke Ridnour.

How about Brad Miller, he’s a decent big and has some range. I think he would be good in our system at center.

Flip Murray, Bendan Haywood, Rasual Butler, Craig Smith, Travis Outlaw, Drew Gooden, Q Richardson, Jermaine O’Neal, Chris Duhon, and Mike Miller.

  • Justin M.

I just don’t see the Lakers giving a charity ring to shaq

  • sep08

Shaun livingston was great when he was in the clippers. He is a tall point guard who has a decent shot and can rebound and feed the post. As we all know Phil likes big Point guards since they fit very well into the triangle offense. Livingston is coming off an injury and he has something to prove and he can be taken for real cheap. I hope Mitch takes a look at him. Ridnour is good as well, much better than blake in my opinion.

  • why?

Hate to see Farmar Go if he does.. he always stayed aggresive and tried to make things happen when everyone else looked timid…i think Duhon is the best and most realistic option for us tough defender and can also knock down the three which is all the lakers really require from their PG

  • inverse

i think its really a no-brainer: Buss is a gambler, and the one player that has tremendous potential that can be nabbed for cheap is Shaun Livingston. I know he is not the same player he once was, but the kid is still very young and he was emerging as one of the leagues best point guards. Imagine having him develop under Kobe and getting back to the same form he was when he was with the Clippers! I say we roll the dice on this one

    • inverse

Oh and btw Veterans min to T-Mac! Have him come off our bench and bolster our second unit. Of course everyone would love for the lakers to get Felton, but that is unrealistic. If the lakers do indeed sign t mac and livingston the lineup would look something like this

      Fisher/Livingston
      Bryant/Brown/Vujacic
      Artest/T-mac/Walton
      Gasol/Odom
      Bynum/Odom

This is a start, and the whole thing bears on livingston making a come back to his old self. I really love the idea of bringing T-mac because as much as i love artest, there were a lot of times this season where his offense wasnt getting it done, and to have a sf come off the bench in t-mac that can give u 12-20 points any given day would be huge. Plus t-mac has always expressed desires in playing with kobe

      What do u guys think?

      • xxv112002

Great! The Lakers should definitely take T-wack. On defense, Phil plays Ron Ron. And when it’s time for offense, Phil should call timeout to put T-wack in the game. Boo ya! Instant 12-20 points! They should do that in every posession IMO. Gasol/Odom & Bynum/Odom is just genius thinking too! But don’t worry Lakers fans. Just in case Bynum or Gasol gets injured, Phil can always put in T-wack to play the PF or C position. Oh man, I can’t wait for this to happen! Do it Mitch, DO IT!!

        • inverse

          Ya Ya Ya!!!

        • alive86

T-mac made it clear that he doesn’t want to come off the bench next season. For a ring with the repeat champs, he might make an exception.
