“I can handle him,” Kobe Bryant speaking about Ron Artest on a recorded cell phone conversation.

Kobe can do a lot. All of us know that. The guy is truly amazing.

But ‘baby sit’ the person we all affectionately call Ron Ron? The guy we all definitely call a “nut case.” That’s one tall order for even Mamba 24.

Ron Ron, is one gifted NBA Player. One of the few defensive stoppers in the NBA. A former Defensive Player of the Year. And the man can shoot. He can pass. He can post up. Some have said, he’s one of the most versatile players in the NBA. And, he is paid relative peanuts by NBA standards ($7,800,000).

It’s because of these gifts, that some teams have developed selective memory issues. You know, repressed memories. When things hurt so bad, you simply forget them. It’s a way us humans can deal with terrible stuff.

I think this is the case with Artest. I hear people saying, ‘Ron Ron isn’t all that bad.’ ‘He’s just misunderstood. He’s a good boy at heart.’ ‘Why, he even went to Africa to feed people.’ Of course, even there, a monkey took issue with him and wanted to fight. Ron Ron showed great restraint and didn’t swing back. Maybe he his a changed man after all?

So then, why would Sacramento want to trade Ron Ron?

Ron Artest: A brief history

First a trivia question. How many games and times has Ron Ron been suspended?

Hint: You will need more than your fingers and toes to count. Get your calculator out, it’s a lot.

What’s interesting, its not just the amount, but the reasons. Flagrant fouls. (That’s not too bad. He’s tough and the NBA is soft) “I want time off to promote my CD” Suspension. I want time off to rest from making my CD. Suspension. Inciting a riot. 73 game suspension. “Maybe, I don’t fit in and they should trade me.” Suspension and Trade.

But he’s a new man. Sacramento has changed him. Okay, I’ll consider that. Its true, he hasn’t been suspended that much since arriving to Sac Town. Just the seven games to start this season for a domestic disturbance dispute. But the man has had the police out to his house 13 times since coming to Sacramento in the last 18 months. That’s not normal. How many of you have had the police out to your house in the last 18 months? Unless you live in the projects, probably zero.

And for what reasons. Let’s see, his wife smashed out his windows to his Hummer with a frying pan with him in it. Those with memory issues will say ‘that’s between a man and his wife. Its not our concern.’ We talking, Hummer here. We talking, Police arrest him. We talking, conviction and community service sentence. We talking 7 game suspension and a promise of much more from God Father Stern, if it happens again

Animal cruelty. The neighbors watch as he leaves and doesn’t feed his dog. To save the Dog (Sock’s, nice name) from starvation, they feed him. The county charges him. Another conviction.

‘But he’s so good’ Another memory lapse in the making. Last year, he tells the coach, he doesn’t feel like playing right before game time. The coach wants to know why. “Its my knee, its sore.” Coach asks trainer. Trainer shrugs and says, “first I heard of it” Bibby is informed just before tip-off and rolls his eyes in disgust. “I can’t believe it”. Coach tells Artest, “if you would’ve mentioned this 1 hour ago, we could’ve activated another player to replace you, and now its too late.” Artest just looks off into the distance. He does it another time, later in the season.

Sacramento is furious. This is the last straw, they leak to a reporter, . Artest is gone after the season. As the Summer goes on, no one has offered Sac much for their star. And Sacramento wonders why. If that’s the case, we are going to keep him, we’ll show you.

Perhaps, the greatest case of selected memory and repressed memories has been with the Kings themselves.

One more thought. And some of you are upset with Mitch, because he wouldn’t give up Lamar Odom for Ron Artest. Good, now I feel better for saying that

    yea we can :)

  • fatty

“True Warrior” Where do you come up with these pictures?haha

You know I might be able to put up with some Artest stuff, if he didn’t cost so much. Maybe a Kwame for Artest. But giving up, Kwame, Farmar, a #1 seems way too much for Ron Ron. And Odom, NO WAY JOSE!!!

  • http://theworldvoice.com LUUUUKE

Bringing Artest here is not a good idea. However, if we have an opportunity to get him and it’s our only chance of off-season improvement, we have no choice.

  • Billy Kupchak

Maybe he his a changed man after all? ~lol~

  • cyrus

Artest can play only 75 of 82 games next season because of 7 game suspension. There is no guaranty that he wouldn’t cause more suspensions for himself and probably he will.

Also, I personally, as an animal lover, don’t like Artest because what he did to his dog, and I hope I will never see him in purple and gold.period

  • G-Funk

I think some of you are underestimating Artest’s talent. Take a look. You didn’t get his best defense last year because a disc in his back got messed up like 8 games into the season. And the year before that, when he became a King he breathed life back into the team. They sucked…badly. Then he showed up and improved everyone’s defense. He made the team hungry again and pretty much carried them into the playoffs. Everyone’s defense. You heard me. Ron Artest got Mike Bibby to play a little D.

    Opponents PPG
    Before Artest: 102.1
    After Artest: 93.9

Kings opponents scored over 100 points 24 times before Artest. After Artest, they did it 7 times.think about that!

  • Faith

wouldn’t you act up if you lived in sacramento???

Actually he’s only attractive beause compared to what’s out there, and what we have, his talent is can’t miss.

  • fatty

    Its not Ron Ron’s fault.
Its the tule fog Faith, it drives people mad.lol

  • magicbalala245

Man Kobe can handle this any day anytime

  • razz

Artest can help Bean win a ring. That is all I am concerned about. So if he can take us to the next level, we would be stupid not to sign him.

This Is What I Heard From Emplay Aka Eric Pincus

i’ve heard there’s a discussion between the 2 teams – nothing more – and my source is not the poster on CL.

Good news guys, Lakers.com is reporting that Chris Mihm is 100% healthy and is ready for training camp. Personally, I think Mihm is the best Center that we have, and he is the 5th best CENTER in the NBA.

wow lets order the rings lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BringDFishBack

artest is such a joke and deserves to be in prision for the rest of his life. you guys that say you dont care because he is good…is basketball all there is to life? Do you no morals whatsoever? My god it shocks me to see how many people on here think basketball is life. Its a game, and if you think its worth it to put this guy on your team just because he can help you win, well then wow.

  • BEC

As a person, I dont like Artest, I think hes a bad role model for our youth, has no self-control, and he just doesnt seem to know how to handle himself properly.

But as a player, he brings an intensity and edge that many teams lack especially the Lakers, kind of like what Kobe brings to the USA team, that “hunger” so to speak. Hes a good player on the block, especially with his size and strength, theres little who can even guard this guy. Hes a good shooter and we all know about his defensive abilities. I dont personally care about his personal life and suspensions as long as he comes to play come playoff time. Is he someone who can bring us over the top? I just dont know, im on the fence on that one. Hes too much of a loose cannon, Artest can be that second option offensive player, like he was for JO in indy when they had stephen jackson, and bring defensive intensity to our team but he just has too many IF’s. The biggest thing that I question is his desire and heart to play basketball and his competitive spirit. Which is huge. All of his suspensions and behaviors just tells me he doesnt care too much about playing and just plays to his abilities to get paid. Especially that stunt or whatever he did about promoting his rap album and other stuff thats hes pulled. I personally would NOT want him wearing the purple and gold, but he would be a good additional talent wise to our team.

  • http://www.myspace.com/regg66 rpouncy14

Oh no!!! Not Ron Artest!!!!!!!!!! Don’t get him.

  • G-Funk

Artest & Bryant can easily shut down every/any elite perimeter player in the game, come playoff time…that’s ur Pippen and Jordan on Defense…

  • Nikko

Hell no! biggest idiot in the NBA.. I care less how good he is. Jerry West would never even think about signing a guy like him.

  • D. Imhoff

Here’s what I see as the Artest dilema. He is clearly one of the premier players in the league. However, he is mentaly unstable. Talentwise he could easily become the 2nd most important Laker on the team. Now if he has a melt down and can’t play where does that leave the Lakers. Its almost like he is injury prone. If he had a reocurring physical injury do the Lakers want to take the risk that he will not be available at playoff time. It seems to me that Sacramento wants too much for what is the equivalent of an injury prone player. The Lakers are better off if we never have him than if we aquire him and then loose him to “injury”.

  • fatty

    D. Imhoff

Its that forced injury as well that bothers me.

Stern was emphatic when he said if this happens again, the penalty will be more severe. What does he mean, more severe?
One to two months of counseling? While Artest is suspended?

How can Kobe and Phil keep Artest under control 24/7? Game time maybe, but they are not marriage counselors.

This is not Rodman. His problems were different. I’m glad you mentioned mental instability. It can be more devastating than any physical illness. It can drag down others as well. The Lakers team being one of them.

I absolutely hated losing to the Suns. I want to forget those losses badly. But conventiently forgetting Artest’s problems for the slight chance of winning is not worth it.

Your post was excellant. Please post more like it.

  • razz

BringDFishback yes it’s worth it to put a guy like this on your team to… win. That’s what you play for right? To win championships. And if it was just about morals half the world should be locked up for life right? It’s just basketball. The boy is a nut no doubt, but there have been plenty nutts in the NBA like… Rodman.

  • http://myspace.com/crunklilgangsta LiL_K

um r you kiddng fatty? id trade ne1 out of Kobe, Bynum, Odom, Java, Turiaf

trading Kwame, Farmar, cook and picks would be a steal for us

not to mention how deep we would be

  • fatty

Respect your opinion, but don’t quite agree.

Which Artest are you putting in the line up?

If its the Artest that plays great NBA ball that would be sweet. If its the crazy Artest, that beats his wife and gets suspended for the entire NBA season, our title hopes are lost.

He’s is quite a gamble. If we trade the store for him and he goes bust, we go belly up. I’m not disputing how good he his, just the risk it takes to bring him aboard and the possible consequences. That’s why, even with everything I’ve mentioned, I don’t feel like risking too much for a potential disaster.

what do we have to lose by bringing in artest. we are not going to win with what we have now anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • D. Imhoff

I just voted on whether Bynum wil have a breakout or bust year in 07/08. I was very surprised to see that so many of us believe he will have a breakout season, while so many comments I read are so negative. Right now 62% of us believe he will have a breakout season. Considering how scarce good big men are and how inexpensive Bynum is right now, doesn’t that mean that most of us want the Lakers to hold onto Bynum at least through the 1st half of the season, and that it would be smart to do so. If Bynum averages 15ppg with 9to12 rpg and 2to3 bpg that would greatly upgrade our center position over last year. If we can swing the Yi trade we could be very good for the rest of Kobie’s career. And it would make sense for him to remain a Laker for Life. This situation may also give Phil reason to stay as long as Kobie does, and once again make the Lakers a desirable location for talented players looking for a Ring or two or three.

  • 24allup inya

Ed, great new’s Shaun Livingston is expected to make a comeback in the 2010 season.I think he will be in the top 10 guard’s in the league ha ha lol, you’re an att w h o r e! (get a life)

  • http://www.lakers.com Ed

    suck my dick 24allup inya.

  • 24allup inya

Naa! im to tired from your mom sucking mine last nigth (get a life) i think maybe you’re some dumb little kid whom has nothing to do, realy man have some class…

  • 24allup inya

Can you make up your mind, is Crhis Mhim the 5th or the 4th best center in the league? Out of curiosity can you give me your list from 1-10 and where exactly would you place him in that list?

  • 24allup inya

What’s a matter Ed? i hope you did’nt get banned, im still waiting for you’re top ten!!!

  • http://www.lakers.com Ed

First of all you M O T H E R F U C K E R, if you ever talk about my mom again I will track you down and kill you. And second, tell your mom that she left her thong in my room last night after I boned her.

If you really want to know my list of top ten CENTERS in the NBA than I’ll tell you.

    1.Dwight Howard
    2.Yao Ming
    4.Ben Wallace
    5.Chris Mihm
    6.Tyson Chandler
    7.Alonzo Mourning

Those seven are the probably the only legit centers in the NBA. I didn’t add JO, KG, Dirk, Duncan, or others, because those guys in my opinion are Power Forwards NOT CENTERS.

  • 24allup inya

Yes im realy scared now, i think im gona have to move to another country ha ha ha! making threat’s like that must make you feel like a man.Anyway i dont care much to engage in this immature ordeal, i could not dissagree with you more on you’re top ten, it’s rediculous to place Mhim as 5th i say he’s more like 9th or i’ll even give you 8th but 5th no way!!! thank you 4 falling into my trap and answering my comments!!!

  • http://www.lakers.com Ed

What the hell are you talking about. How did I fall into your trap and answer your comments? Is there something wrong with you? The whole idea of this site is to answer each others comments. I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with you.

All I have to say is when this up coming season ends and Mihm has better stats than half the Centers that I named, than I will finally prove my point to you and everyone else. Mihm WILL have the 3rd or 4th best stats on that list.

  • sincebirth1

amongst all the trade possiblilites Artest was the one trade I thought from a basketball point we need to investigate with seriousness.
