Kobe Bryant becomes Lakers’ franchise all-time leading scorer

Kobe Bryant has entertained us for nearly 13 and a half years. He is, what I, and many others consider the greatest scorer in NBA history. While that is debatable, he is, now, officially #1 on the all-time scoring list in Los Angeles Lakers history.

Jerry West has long held the record as the Lakers’ franchise all-time leading scorer (25,192) for many years. Kobe Bryant has broken the milestone on Feburary 1st, 2010 against Memphis, ironically, the two year anniversary of the the Pau Gasol trade. He has also moved into 14th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

The record breaking basket came in the third quarter as Kobe recieved a breakaway dunk from Jordan Farmar who threw in a 2-hand jam (pictured to left). The crowd is still buzzing as he sits on top of the most illustrious franchise in NBA history.

Jerry West recently said he “was very happy” for Bryant nearing the milestone.

Here is a video of West talking about Kobe breaking the Lakers franchise record held by the great Laker, and logo, himself…

Congrats Kobe Bryant, you are now the most lethal scorer in Lakers history!

  • Zach

Nice to know I grew up watching Kobe play basketball

Same here. It’s pretty crazy. I’ve done a lot of watching and studying old tape and film of West. West was unbelievable. Unfortunately, most my age won’t fully appreciate him. It’s amazing, nonetheless, that Kobe has become #1 and still has a LOT of scoring to do.

I wished I was alive during the Magic era because watching highlights of him and Showtime you can tell that the atmosphere when the Lakers played was unlike anything ever witnessed

        • 242LakerFan

I DID grow up during the Showtime era and it was (pun intended) a magical time in Laker and NBA history. I have a special place in my heart for Magic and that group of guys, but I’m telling you now that Kobe is the best all-around player I have ever seen in a Laker uni. And that’s nothing different that the Logo himself has said already.
As a group, though, as good as these guys are, they don’t nearly equal the well- oiled machine of the Lakers of the mid-to-late 80′s. Not close.
I’m all goose-bumps right now remembering it!

FUK fuk fuk, why artest had to miss. why not call a time out. every milestone kobe got came with a fucking loss. no one played good at all except for kobe. Odom cant make a fuckin shot. pau got tosed around by his lil bro. and bynum too many fouls.

    • berkyberks

I think ron did great tonight perfect in the field except the very important .Blame is on phil not caling timeout and the team mates waiting for kobe to shoot, and not giving him the screen…I agree pau is the lil bro right now, and always inconsistent odom pls pls pls mitch trade odom I tired of his garbage shot.

      • Green Flannel

Wow odom will not be traded why the fuck would you want that if your a true laker fan?

        • berkyberks

you’re blind men you still believe in him another charge on a crucial play!he sucks, inconsistent!

  • drive-for-16th

congrats but who cares it was a loss, id rather take a win.

    • berkyberks

sad for kobe that his teammates spoil his night!

    • berkyberks

you can get that win at anytime but the milestone needs 14 yrs to do so!

  • berkyberks

why did phil don’t call the time out and no screen for kobe , and did brought andrew out! celebration is not complete! good work for artest I’m not to blame him on that last shot! bad for gasol beaten by his younger brother, odom defense suck it’s all kobe and artest fighting! gasoft is back, lamer is back!

  • gugy

Why PJ did not call a time out is beyond my comprehension. Obviously Kobe was on a hard spot and Artest was under too much pressure.
    Oh well.
Time to move on I guess.

    • berkyberks

no worry’s at all I’m still happy for kobe for another milestone to tell you the truth I’m watching NBA and lakers because of him…who cares now about the standing I still believe they wll lead the west. Lefrog for MVP and a lost to orlando again or atlanta or celtics..hahaha! But I am looking for lebron vs. kobe on the finals…

  • drive-for-16th

now we have to wait for cavs to lose like wtf why dont we beat the hell outta these stupid ass teams, it pisses me off man.

    • berkyberks

never mind the standing men! I wan’t the cavs to lead again the standing and Lebron winning the MVP as the NBA want it, and watch them lose again in the playoff that will truly breaks lefrogs heart, and demand for a trade! De Javu!

  • drive-for-16th

armar takes too many stupid as shots. odom cant even make a damn shot

  • drive-for-16th

  • Randy’s Donuts

I think the game was lost when Odom drove and missed that layup. Odom needs to go up with authority and dunk the fukin ball! No way should Kobe had to have dropped 44 tonite! Ron is finally looking comfortable out there too!

    • berkyberks

he cannot do it he’s weak!ever since I never like that men his overated! How I wish he’s been traded for josh smith!

    • b_ball_river

He’s a professional lay-up misser…. that dude misses more layups than anybody in the league… his chances of making a 3 are better!!!

  • http://57.amklac HE`S HURT AGAIN?

since when does the bryant EVER pass the ball last possesion?even with 3 people on him he`s shooting….nice pass kobe…go lakers!

    • berkyberks

he does it many times in his career but everyone who had it fails to bail!

  • B Holland

Kobe wanted the record more than the win. : (

    • b_ball_river

thats bs… he had to go for the record for them to have a chance to win…. how about his teammates want a win more than him for a change

    • berkyberks

      fackyu blindman! kiss my A$$

  • berkyberks

    somebody has to make tradeodom.com.la

  • drive-for-16th

the great play by kobe, but the rest of them not so good, who cares if ron shot good, if he misses the most important shot then theres nothing to talk about. phil needed to call a timeout figure his shit out make a play, we had like 23 seconds left. we kinda threw this game away.

  • Glakergrl

Congrats Kobe!!! Im happy he did it but would’ve been cool to see it for myself at home because I had tickets for wed. game:( ….I wonder if they will have like a ceremony or something like that????

Congrats to Kobe for being the Lakers all time scoring leader! I know that he may have his sights on Kareem’s all time NBA scoring title, but I’d much rather him have 7 rings as his ultimate goal! That’s right, 7 not 6, and it’s not just so that he’ll pass Jordan, but it’s so that he can “CATCH” Robert Horry! Hahaha… can’t believe it, Horry’s got 7 rings while Barkley, Malone, Stockton have NONE!

    GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!
    GO KOBE!!!!!!!!!!! CATCH ROBERT HORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bc18

on the picture, you could see kobes decline in jumping. ugh. oh well, i gotta enjoy him before he starts deteriorating! lol kobe mvp!
