Kobe’s Biggest Game… Will be this Sunday

Is this Kobe’s biggest game for his personal legacy? One SLAM writer thinks so.

bigSLAMOnline:  On Saturday, ESPN will air, commercial-free, a highly positive documentary about the man who, despite what people will tell you about some kid from Akron who people are starting to notice, is still the NBA’s marquee name, and maybe the biggest name in team sports. (If you didn’t know this, then I have some things to tell you about the price of footlong sandwiches and Who Knows Drama.)

The next day, Kobe Bryant will suit up for the game with the highest stakes in any game of what is already a sure-fire Hall Of Fame Career. Now, I realize this sounds crazy. Kobe’s got three rings and two more conference championships to his name already.

How could a second-round game possibly be the most important one of his career? Because for all the championships, all the big shots, all the 40-point explosions against teams that thought they could get past him, Kobe has never been pushed to the precipice of true disappointment. Has Kobe’s legacy really ever been put in a “do or die” game before?

The three championships were his greatest triumph, and his stellar play en route to getting those rings is something that will always be a huge point in his favor. But was the pressure ever really on his shoulders like it is now?

He got his first ring, the monkey that took so many great players so many years to get off their back, if they ever did, at 22 years old, the clear beta dog on a team carried to the championship by Shaq averaging 30/15/3 throughout the entire playoffs while Kobe averaged a clean, complimentary 22.

Lol, I basically wrote this in my commentary!

I don’t know if its THE most important game for kobe, but its definitely in the top 5.
KObe has to come out and show what he’s all about. if the lakers were to lose game 7, it will be a major dent in his legacy. all the ‘better than jordan talk’ will be put aside, and people will start talking of how kobe is on the downswing of his career. they will talk about ‘kobe passing the torch to lebron’.
if the lakers lose, look for an implosion to the lakers franchise a la 2003, when shaq and phil jackson left. the lakers as we know them might disappear into the sunset.
    We shall see come sunday.

“The 81 points, the playoff defeats, the beautiful jumpers, the impossible passes, the taunts, the arrogance, the brilliance, the 4th quarter takeovers, the aloofness, the games where forced jumper after forced jumper falls short, the player who elevated scoring into art and turned the art of a 10-man game into nothing more than scoring.”

ok i know i am biased because i’m the biggest Kobe fan to walk the earth…
but this article is so well written that i read it twice and sat down and meditated on its content….
because he is right on all accounts, lose sunday and kobe names goes down in history as the gu who scored 81pts

but we know that will not happen…kobe won’t let us lose…..i have been very outspoken about the Pu$$ies on our team…..

kobe is better than mj-no doubt in my mind..but mj will alway be the better player because he was seen as a winner….
i need kobe to win…kobe needs to win..history needs him to win…and when history is on your side (just ask OBAMA) u r in good shape

the person that wrote this article needs to replace the Yahoo/Fox?and ESPN sports writers…..

    kobe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • kobe8

i just PRAY to God that the WHOLE team comes out hungry & determined. Last night when the Rockets won the tip-off, i knew the game was over. Their body language showed it. I just hope these guys see what a GREAT opportunity they have of playing on very good team that can challenge for a ring for some time and just play all out on Sunday. Except for Kobe & Fish none of these other guys have played on a championship team.

these are the times that try mens soul.kobe will be put to the test sunday. i think kobe knows what has to be done.i just hope the rest of the team really understands the magnitude of this game.this game not only defines kobe’s place in basketball history, but thier own. when the ball is up as the whistle blows, what will be on the mind of the starters fishing,or winning a championship.GO LAKERS FIGHT WIN!!!!!!!

That was an extremly well wwriten article. And i dont know if its his number one most important but easily in the top 5 and if its a tie game with 1 minute left you know he is the person in the NBA you want to have the ball in his hands. With his blood thirsty attitude. HE is tyhe only one in the Lakers locker room that once the lights go out in the staples center its all buisneesss…

We have been looking at KB’s same game (without shaq) for 5 years… and getting the same results… :-(… Hope the Basketball gods show us favor. But it seems as tho past wrongs (selfishness) are rearing their ugly heads in an effort to remind us of how things cannot be done, but instead, how they should be done (charity)….Charity is needed… Leaders are born, maybe the one in KB will be this year.
