You can tune in to the entire KG press conference on NBA.com. He had this to say about the Lakers, Kobe, and why he didn’t goto Los Angeles:

” I didn’t really consider LA because the whole Kobe situation is up in the air…”

  • kisofdeath

i thought they talked? so nothin happened when they talked? kg shoulda pushed kobe into changin his mind!!!!!! dammit its all kobe’s fault!!!

  • mlkg721

    WoW

  • mlkg721

Kobe dont wanna play here, he’s made up his mind about leaving. If he really wanted KG to come here, he would’ve been on ‘em.

  • Rpoc

This why it was fraking important for Kobe to clear his situation by giving a commitment to the Lakers. His prima donna act shredded all leverage. When you have dumbasses like Mitch and Jim, they seriously needed it!!

  • ONE

Kobe messed up by going public. BUT, dont give us that s… Kobe needed someone, so either you are n’t smart enough to figure it out. Or ur ‘Sota confidence dont let you believe you could possibly win.

  • Rpoc

Kobe should have STOPPED at “Do something and Do something now.” That was brilliant.

What was not brilliant? Going on multiple media shows and saying he wants to be traded and then he wants to be a Laker for life. It was the beginning of the fraking off season. What the hell can anyone do at that time?

Let’s not forget the Front Office are full of idiots.

Irrational impulsive Kobe and Idiotic FO and you get this!

  • BEC

WOW!!! and I mean WOW!! How can you guys even blame Kobe? Do you guys even know what Boston gave up? Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Gomes, Telfair, and 2 first round picks. Thats way better than anything the Lakers can offer and hes giving KG to Boston, that says it all right there. BOTTOM LINE, the Lakers just didnt have the pieces to get this trade done, with LO contract it just wasnt meant to happen for us. Better things will come.

    GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rpoc

Right says the guy who said this before:

“But seeing as theyre waiting to trade KG, the only real logical thing that seems to be going on is KG to the Lakers because they want Crit and we cant trade him till Aug 3 and thats why theres no KG trade yet. Atleast thats just what I think.”

And think about the big picture too. If KG was worried about Kobe’s unsolved situation, how about the other stars out there like JO?

ok if u guys read earlier taylor turned it down bcuz of odoms big contract its not kobes fault.

  • nyla

I was so pissed when I heard KG say that.

  • http://www.myspace.com/stevesspace TheEclectic

Wow… I guess all you “Kobe” fans can shut the f*ck up. Kobe has done more harm for the Lakers then any other Laker star in recent memory. The guy basically booted Shaq and now because of his public crying – KG didn’t even CONSIDER us. Thanks Kobe. All that talk about getting better just made you and us worse. Irony is a…well…you know. Go Lakers… Kobe can suck it.

  • nyla

There’s way too many factors why KG is in Boston instead of LA.

KG didn’t demand the trade. He gave it the thumbs up. Besides, I think KG’s too nice and loyal of a guy to demand to go to somewhere where the Wolves get an even worse deal than what they got.

    Other contributing factors.
    - The package Boston had was way better than anything we could’ve offered. (Multiple youngsters to build around including a proven one in Al Jefferson and expiring contracts vs. an unproven Bynum, a point guard they don’t need, and LO’s contract they didn’t want)
    - They wanted KG out of the west.
    - I truly believe McHale and Ainge wanted to help each other out.
    - A trio of KG/Pierce/Allen in the east is a hell of a lot better than a duo of KG/Kobe in the west.

I’m not saying Kobe was no factor in this cause he very well looks like it, but I don’t think its like how it sounded.

  • PHANTOM

if kobe stills want out lets let him go. the fo screwed up and let the man leave. deng, gordon, noah and filler should do it.

  • LakersFirst

I agree with most everyone in this thread. Kobe f’d this up when he opened his mouth and killed any leverage the Lakers had on acquiring any talented players via trade, especially Garnett.

Kobe’s attitude and his stupidity are the reasons why he will NEVER be the greatest basketball player to play the game. It is for these reasons why he will never be better than Jordan. Jordan was at least smart and knew when to open his mouth and when to keep it shut.

At this point, I conclude idiot Kobe and idiot Kupcake/Jim Buss are made for each other.

Do not worry fans R. Allen is old he cant run up and down the court like he used to. Pierce is washed up. KG is on his last legs and also they got no one to back them up if they get tired and or if they get hurt. The celtics might just make 4 or 5 spot in the playoffs and get knock out the second round cause they have no bench trust me on this one.
With Minny they are in our conference and they will be sucking for years and that is one team we do not have to worry about. All we need to do is get JO without givin up LO
and force Webber or PJ to sign if Jerry and Mitch are smartt. If this goes down I see championship in the making.
    Fisher/Critt/Williams
    Bryant/Evans/Vujuvic
    Odom/Walton
    JO/Tariaf
    Mihm/Webber
    and 2 other players.
    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.getgarnett.com Fred A.

JO is much younger than KG.
Watch if JO comes to LA he will be amazing. I see a big change in him and his passion for the game will get bigger.
Simply because he said he wants to become a Laker. I respect
that. Also he will not become injuried prone no more. I feel
I would be happy and Kobe would to. Will you be to? I have lost all respect for KG cause he is a celtic now.
    Fisher(Magic)
    Bryant(M. Jordan)
    Odom(B. Scott)
    JO(K. Jabbar)
    Mihm(G. Mikkan)

  • Faith

Come on guys…didn’t KG say earlier that he was unwilling to go to Boston? But he changed his mind all of a sudden? I’m sure the extension of 100 mil had a lot to do with that.

I don’t think it has as much to do with Kobe as you guys think. And if it did…can we really blame him? This is yet another thing to tack on to the inadequacies of the front office.

Either way, blame this/that. It sucks.

  • http://www.otrforums.com alcstarheel

    (Typo) Yeah, Kobe prevented…

  • kobeguru

since when was kg the wolves gm? why would it matter where he would “consider”, if the lakers had a deal, wolves would have done it, or the lakers would have pulled away like the cs at first.

  • gstoneballer

u cant blame kobe…. the celtics way overpaid for kg. 7 players. and now they have no bench. They have a high risk high reward situation. If the lakers get Jo with out trading Odom, there is a chance it will be laker celtics in the Finals

  • THEbrownblurr

kobe’s fault. no one wants to come to LA because of all his public crying. even IF the franchise and FO are in shambles, he is stupid to make it public… of course that is gonna put doubt in the minds of any superstar looking to come to LA… Kobe is a spoiled, selfish, emotional baby. He’s the greatest player in the world and my favorite by far, but as a human and a person? he’s just not the person we thought he was back in the McDonald’s commercial days. BlameKobe.COM sounds pretty good!

  • double

Whatever. Take that with a grain of salt. It goes so much deeper. If the trade appeased both FOs, Garnett would be headed to LA (and he would’ve been fine with it). He’s gone and we just need to focus on the future.

  • BringDFishBack

You guys dont realize it took KG 1 sentence to make the wolves trade him to LA, no matter what they would get in return. If KG demanded he went to LA, we’d have him. And he very well could have done that if kobe cleared the situation up. Kobe’s pissed and now he’s making the situation worse for himself.

  • kgmvp

This is all kobe´s fault if he could have just talk with kg like pierce. THANKS A LOT KOBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kobe isn’t to balme…he’s doesn’t sign the checks…the Buss famliy is in charge like charles…that may be the problem! In the closing weeks i noticed that KG was kinda weak…loyal but weak! He should have asked for a trade, didn’t…Boston had a way better offer, younger talent…hell with it…sign webber and goes balls to the walls for J.O. or Gasol…a second choice maybe but i think in the long run it will work out better 4 the Lakers…???

  • laker24

I have had a full day to digest what KG said yesterday and here is my feelings on who is to blame for KG not coming to LA.
1.Jim Buss-Don’t kid yourselves Laker fans Jim wants to build around Bynum not Kobe. This guy is the worst thing to happen to the Lakers EVER! Plus didn’t DFish say yesterday the Lakers were not willing to trade certain players, this guy is killing us.
2.Kobe-All he had to do was tell KG he was staying and KG would be a Laker,to the guys who think I am wrong you have your opinion but I am right, KG had all the leverage in this instance he held all the cards.Listen to KG say how Pierce called him every day about joining the celts and when they didn’t talk on the phone they played ball at UCLA together.Kobe could not even return KGs calls or worse yet maybe he did and told KG he is OUT of LA no matter what.KG wanted LA,at a press conference in Boston he starts talking about LA and he gets a smile on his face saying LA is LA man what else can you say about it, then realizes he is in Beantown sitting w/Doc,Ainge and Pierce not in LA w/PJ,Mitch and Kobe and his smile turns to sadness when he gives the reason LA was not an option for him.
3.Kevin McHale-Worst GM in the history of professional sports. It seems to me Ainge is the only guy McHale talks to in the league and when you get 2 ex-celts together no way Lakers stood a shot.I will look for McHale to be a scout or some other meaningless job in the celts organization very soon, no way he keeps his job.
4.Jerry Buss-Had a kid who he named Jim(BAD MOVE)gave him a job(WORST MOVE EVER).Kicked Jerry West to Memphis(2nd Worst Move Ever).Got rid of Shaq a year to early and got nothing close to equal value for him(3rd worst move ever).Jerry we all appreciate what you have done in LA for the Lakers but I think I speak for all of LAKER NATION when I say PLEASE SELL THE TEAM or let basketball people do the jobs you hired them to do,give PJ more of a say and let Mitch get deals done w/out your son blocking every move he tries to make.
5.Mitch-This poor bastard was in a no win situation, first Kobe went crazy on the radio(teams now know Lakers need to make trades or Kobe is gone)second he is dealing w/McHale who it seems only wanted to help his ex team or Phoenix(Lakers newest rival)Remember people Kerr and Dantoni both said they never even talked to Minny about a trade so if McHale had his way it was either Celts or no one.Third and most important it seems he is not creative enough when he puts packages together he never even changed the original deal Bynum(Buss probably said no way)LO and 1st rounder, come on Mitch do whatever it takes we were talking about KG not some scrub.
6.KG-He could have done more to get in touch w/Kobe or Phil and let them know he wanted to play for the Lakers. The only thing that scares me is what I said earlier about maybe KG and Kobe talked and Kobe told him he was leaving no matter what.
7.Taylor-Should have fired McHale long ago!
8.Phil-Should have got in Kobes ear about getting KG to LA. I still say Kobe KG Phil=Title now I don’t know what to think.
No matter who plays for, works for or owns the Lakers I will always be a fan its in my makeup its in my blood. July 31st 2007 was the first time I ever questioned it though.

  • nba analyst

Please….enough of this garbage about “if KG wanted to be a Laker, he would be a Laker”. The problem was all along that the Wolves were not interested in taking on Odom AND his contract and the other guys it would have taken to get up to $23 million in cap value (remember the KG trade kicker problem). KG could wish to be a Laker all he wanted…..and it wasn’t going to move the deal along because of the lack of tradeable assets on the Laker roster.

Every contract Minnesota received in the trade is one year. McHale wanted Jefferson….and he has a year to see if he is worth offering a Bird rights contract to. Ratliff….$13 million gone off the cap next season. Telfair….going to be waived I suspect. Green….Minny gets a one year looksee on him.

The more I look at the deal from Minny’s end, the more I like what McHale is doing. Cap room is great from more than being able to bring in a free agent (Orlando’s deal for Rashard Lewis comes to mind), it allowa you a lot of flexibility to bring in a player by trade.

Sure, the Wolves will stink this year. But hey, they won what, 36 games with Garnett last season. They can win only 30 without him just as easy with the same level of pain in the fan base.

  • KB4LIFE

OK IM GETTING VERY ANNOYED READING ALL THESE FAKE LAKER FANS TALKING SMACK TO KOBE… IF YOUR A LAKER FAN SHUT THE F*** UP ABOUT KOBE. DONT BLAME KOBE.. BLAME THE FRONT OFFICE.. THAT MORON GARNETT JUST SAID SOME BS, ITS NOT KOBES FAULT SO SHUT THE F*** UP! U F***** KOBE HATERS!

  • lakerfan81

NBA analyst I completely agree. I think McHale did better than anyone thought he could (especially if you remember the Sam cassell and 1st rnd pick for Marko Jaric). When a trade of this magnitude goes down it is from the very top. This was Taylor not McHale he was just left to seal the deal. Minnesota did not fair too badly in this deal. they get a proven young big man in Jefferson, a huge expiring contract in Ratliff, and a couple of young players with some upside in Telfair and Green (much better than what the Lakers could offer).

The only problem is that Taylor should have:

    1. Fired McHale a long time ago (probably about the time Jerry West came out of retirement before he went to Memphis). If he is willing to pay Garnett 226M why not spend money on a competent GM.
    2. Traded Garnett a year ago to Chicago for Deng, #2 pick, Chandler (and whoever else was involved).
