Jordan, who many consider the G.O.A.T. had this to say about Kobe.

ESPN: “There are very few Kobe Bryants out there. LeBron hasn’t won yet. Dwyane Wade had Shaq [O'Neal] sitting next to him and he had Pat Riley coaching him. So there are a lot of other components that come into play to say if you’re an NBA championship team,” Jordan said. “Detroit did a great job in winning and they had no one superstar on that team. Boston won with three All-Stars. The Lakers won with two All-Stars.

There are no Kobe’s, but ONE Kobe! Kobe Bean Bryant, MJ! Get it right!

  • http://www.ld2k.com Chris Manning

Thank god. Now we can put this “LeBron is better” stuff to rest. LeBron is a phenomenal player, but so was Karl Malone. When it comes down to it, LeBron hasn’t won ANYTHING yet. This is his year too, no excuses. It will be interesting.

    • LAALLDAY310

It should, but the “Kobe haters” are pretty hardheaded, I’m sure they’ll keep promoting Lebron has better out of their mouths. Even IF the GOAT says he’s not there yet, they just never listen lol

    • well

Very interesting indeed. Let’s not forget that the Lakers have had a far more difficult schedule than the Cavs. We’re getting tested constantly while they just enjoy handing it to sub par teams.

In the end, it’s the postseason that will define everything. I feel really good about the Lakers.

    • B Holland

Let’s ask the LOGO. What would he say? Final Verdict is in.

  • LAALLDAY310

    *As better

  • keepon_keepinon18

Who are the other Kobe Bryants? As good as a player might get in their mid-range game, Kobe’s attitude towards what he wants sets him apart. His determination and his desire to never be good enough is what, in my opinion, allows him to be compared with the best.

    • NBAmazingKB24

      I CAN’T THINK OF ONE
      NOT ONE

    • WINLESS

You’re right and it has been just downright obessive about winning it’s sick! I’m glad he’s on our team and I will dread the day that he decides to hang up those kicks.

  • Robert

OK, this is the statement from MJ that we were waiting for! He wasn’t just talking about the ‘current’ NBA, he was talking about all-time. Here’s why:
    .
He said ‘very few Kobe’s’ – and proceeded to list the top players out there now. They are NOT Kobe’s, so who is left? He’s talking about ‘ever’.
    .
Maybe he can say this now that he is an ‘owner’. He has conquered the dream – more than being a coach, or a GM, is an owner. The big time! Recall when Chris Rock was doing a standup routine, and said “Shaq is rich, but the GUY who pays Shaq is wealthy (that would be Buss). Here ya go Shaq, get some bling”. MJ is on another level now – and has earned that ‘different level’ of respect. I know it’s $$$, but now the NBA establishment accepts him like that. So, congratulations to MJ!
    .
And now that he is in that position, he can unequivocally state that Kobe is one of the greatest ever! This was THAT statement.
    .
When all the ESPN weenies have expired, and all that is left is the word from basketball players and owners, Kobe will be down as one of the top 5 ever – and maybe even better than that!
    .
    Thanks, MJ!

  • KBGOAT

while media talking about how invincible lebron is, players and coaches still take kobe. That’s the difference between them.

    • WINLESS

I couldn’t have said it better myself. In any poll taken with the players and coaches, they ALWAYS pick the Mamba to close it out. Great point KBGOAT.

  • lakerman1

All one has to look at is the Artistry Kobe displays. no other player I repeat no other player in the league has Kobes magnificent footwork and body control and killer instinct. MJ knows no bling means you have not done a thing.

    • ilikebasketball

      exactly.
what makes me not like lebron, besides him just being a posterboy for espn and nike, is that when it comes down to it, his go to move is driving head down to the middle of the lane and either getting a foul or a layup. it’s legal and fine.
      but damn it’s boring.
it’s not like carmel going up and twisting his body, or kobe throwing the ball off the backboard getting his own rebound and putting it back in.
      lebron is boring.

      • TOUCHING_MYSELF

And half the time, his drives are offensive fouls! He’s the one that’s creating the contact and yet the refs calls it the other way! I swear, the NBA with Stern and Stu Jackson along with the media are so eager to have a “rivalry” that they prop this LeBum up against Kobe!

Kobe has taken on every challenge and challenger and has come out ahead every time! Stackhouse, Gay Allen, Pudgy Pierce, Vince Carter, Tracy Mcgrady, Melo, Wade, LeBrick, and even MJ himself. Kobe has never shied away from a challenge, always faced it head on and the results are some crazy extraordinary move or shot that Kobe unveils before all of our eyes.

Kobe is simply amazing! People should just really appreciate this guy for what he’s done, doing now, and will conitnue to do instead of hating on him. LeBaby, although an incredible physical freak who can jump to the moon, has light years to go before he reaches Kobe’s stature! Just because the media props you up LeCrap, doesn’t mean that you deserve to be there!

  • TOUCHING_MYSELF

The thing that I liked most about what MJ had to say was that “Dwyane Wade had Shaq [O'Neal] sitting next to him and he had Pat Riley coaching him.” This sentence doesn’t only say that Wade is not at Kobe’s level, but also says that Shaq couldn’t have won without Wade ( Kobe type of player ) and Riles! I love it!

The other 2 things, “There are very few Kobe Bryants out there. LeBron hasn’t won yet.” is a given!

Sounds to me like MJ is passing the baton to Kobe and not the spoiled little prince(ss), LeBronze! No matter how you slice it, MJ 1A, Kobe 1B, or vice versa, LeBronze will always be Bronze ( 3rd at best )!

    GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kobe “3peat” Jordan

That’s the difference boys and girls. Getting the respect and admiration for the grand master himself. There will never be another MJ, there will never be another Kobe. But Kobe is the closest thing this generation has to MJ.

    • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

and vise versa i’m just glad it came outta jordans mouth

      • WINLESS

Now don’t you think people will listen that LeBrick is not there yet? Now that MJ came out and gave props to the Mamba there shouldn’t be anymore discussion as who’s better than who.

  • ab4sure

Did I miss something here? Did Jordan say Kobe was better than Lebron? NO People are reading something into his comments that they want to hear.

    • LC09

ayyy “There are very few Kobe Bryants out there. LeBron hasn’t won yet. that sh it says it all..bron aint win yet meanin he aint on KOBE’S LEVEL sooo wtf u talkin bout.. go worry bout ur boi bynum

      • TOUCHING_MYSELF

Yo, some peeps just need to have EVERYTHING S P E L L E D OUT for them. They don’t have the reading comprehension skills or discernment skills move on in life. It’s just so sad!

“There are very few Kobe Bryants out there. LeBron hasn’t won yet.” That does say it all LC09! That sh!t should be on a t-shirt! Know what I’m saying? End of discussion!

        GO KOBE!!!!!!!!!
        GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
        FCUK LEBRONZE!!!!!!!!!!

        • LC09

hahahaha hell yea that true we need tshirts of sum sort like that hahahaha..but that how ab4sure is hes like bron over kobe ohhh well watever fuk that…

          • TOUCHING_MYSELF

I can picture that sh!t now! It’s like the King (MJ) trying to figure out who his successor is and he CLEARLY picks Kobe over LeBrick! It’s like Kobe’s already conquered all this other territory and expanded the Kingdom and this little b!tch LeBum’s crying for his! Sh!t, he ain’t gettin sh!t! Good luck in NYC or Jersey or wherever the hell you’re goin next sucka because his next stop is surely not the championship!

      • B Holland

MJ said this in the context of building a championship and how hard it is. MJ didn’t say Kobe was better. I can see why laker fans would want to believe this after all Jerry West said Lebron was a better player now.

        • TOUCHING_MYSELF

Yes, it was within the context of building a championship team. But the fact of the matter was still that he said, “There are very few Kobe Bryants out there. LeBron hasn’t won yet. Dwyane Wade had Shaq [O'Neal] sitting next to him and he had Pat Riley coaching him.”

Now, MJ could just as easily said that about Kobe because Kobe played with Shaq and had Jackson as a coach, but he DIDN’T! So then why would he then say there are very few Kobe Bryants and also that LeBron hasn’t won yet. Please, not everything needs to be spelled out does it?

Kobe not only has won 4 championships, 3 with Shaq, but more importantly, he won 1 without a dominant center like Shaq. And also, he was the focal point in the attack for the 4th championship. This clearly shows Kobe’s versatility, value, and dominance in the league. Where this game is a young man’s game, Kobe’s still the best player in the league and did it at 30, when it should have been the other way around for any other player ( win by his own ability in his earlier years and then depend on a more dominanat center to win in the later years).

So B Holland, we’re still correct in assessing that MJ claims that KOBE IS BETTER THAN LEBRONZE!

          GO KOBE!!!!!!!!!
          GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • LC09

lol ok ummmm i give a f uk bout wat u think why??? go su k on brons nuts man..GTFO lmao

          • B Holland

You care about what Jerry West thinks. Lebron “has surpassed Kobe” in his eyes. Remember he knows talent. He is the one who drafted Kobe. Who did Jordan draft? Kwame LMAOAY

          • TOUCHING_MYSELF

And just like you like to claim on your earlier post 3 finals MVPs, case closed. Well, Kobe won a ring after that claim by Jerry West. Bam! CASE CLOSED! And score board, Kobe 4 Championships, LeChump… 0!

          • TOUCHING_MYSELF

And the thing is… this latest argument by you isn’t even related to what we were arguing about in the first place. You were trying to deem the context of Jordan’s quote and LC09 and I were arguing that, but once you lost that argument, you tried jumping to the Jerry West claim. And even then, you lost based on your own argument and logic because of your previous posts about Shaq and his 3 Finals MVPs. Dude, stay within the CONTEXT huh. Don’t just jump around from 1 argument to the next simply because you lost the battle. You’re like a little kid who’s trying to be right, but you’re always WRONG!

        • B Holland

West knows players. He knows that Lebron is better. If Lebron had a 25 year old Shaq he may have won 5 titles with him. Kobe has been surpassed by Lebron. Sorry Touching.

    • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

it’s no surprise or secret that kobe is better than lebron you must be the only person thats dreaming or in real bad denial or you dont watch basketball kobe has been the best player since his career started.welcome to earth!

  • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

if you could pick your all time team…kobe would start at guard for me.i would pick him before i’d pick m.j. going by achievements and personality. i would have more trust in kobe than m.j. they are both good.one is just more clutch.when it’s all said and done..kobe will be g.o.a.t!! until then.lets get more rings!!!!! go lakers!!

    • desecrator93

Kobe over MJ??? You clearly never saw MJ in his prime (88′-93′) because if you did you wouldnt try to compare anybody to him. Kobe is the closest we’ll probably ever get to him but he’s NOT him and never will be. There will never be another MJ. Im not sayin that as a dig on KB but thats just my opinion.

      • bostonSUCKS88

and u saw mj in his prime? and u cant say never. KB could surpass mj, his career is not over yet, not even close. greater things are still to come for KB

        • desecrator93

I was only 6-11 years old when I saw MJ’s prime years, but I rewatched alot of the playoff games from that era and its not even close. The only way he’ll be on MJ’s level is if we gets 2-3 more rings and gets a couple more MVP’s and Final MVPs. And even then most people will still say MJ was better, including me.

      • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

hey son,i’ve been following the game for forty years! i’ve watched the captain,dr.j . magic, and bird. all come into the league.i know what i’m saying.and yes i would take kobe bryant over m.j. and that’s that. like i said,go with a winners clutch shot.they are fairly even in skill.but kobe has that clutch in him, more than m.j. so if you have two of the same great players.you gotta pick that one who has luck in him.kobes got’em. final.

        • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

i just think people need to get off that same old tired band wagon.that’s become tradition,of m.j forever being the greatest i’ve seen his whole career and many other great’s he was a good player but blown way out of proportion .by guy’s like charles and the media.better will eventually come along.in this case it came sooner, that later.in the form of a greater number #24 kobe bryant.and that is a fact. now let’s get real. wilt was better than them all.if you wanna talk the greatest.but between these two, playing in their prime on the same day? kobe would win.

        • B Holland

People who saw MJ’s career know he is the best. If they think Kobe is then they don’t know the definition of greatest.

          • desecrator93

            THANK YOU.

          • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

    • http://lakersnation showtime4eva
    • bostonSUCKS88

or thanks to kobe, shaq got 3 rings?

      • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

yeah that’s how i see it.that slob needed kobe..

        • bostonSUCKS88

KB needed shaq too. i wouldnt call him a slob. both guys were equally important. Shaq dominated the paint and KB dominated the perimeter, and KB was clutch even back then. Hes always had that killer instinct.

          • http://lakersnation showtime4eva

but,you have to remember also, shaq was swept with the magic.needing the one two punch.he lacked without a kobe bryant, horry, fox, and fish didnt hurt either.but my point was ,that’s not how shaq put’s it these day’s.

        • B Holland

Who was the finals MVP 3x. Case Closed.

          • KBGOAT

            read the article.

          • B Holland

            You didn’t see Jordan play.

          • kobe’stheory

jordan never won the ring without the pippens great defence, and also he got phil on his side as well…and holland the finals 3x mvp is the NBA hating on kobe!

          • B Holland

Imagine what Jordan would have done with a Shaq. WOW!!!!

  • kobe’stheory

jordan never won a title until pippen came in, but he already is spectacular and above everyone in the league without the likes of lebron, carmelo,d wade to challenge him….maybe jordan wanted kobe on his team to start his own team with a sold out arena the first whole season. that is not bad with chandler, wallace and a bunch of role player!! the question is…would kobe love to live in charlotte?

  • thanhttrinh

are you posting some tupid comment or what ? KObes not go anywhere and u know it, keep dreaming that shyt
