Jason Kapono visited the Lakers facility back on Monday, and according to reports he is expected to sign a one year deal with the Lakers.

According to ESPNLA:

The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to terms with free-agent forward Jason Kapono, according to a league source. The team will sign the 3-point specialist to a contract once the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement is ratified and the league’s signing period begins later this week.

Kapono is expected to sign a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum, worth about $1.2 million, according to the source.

As Southern Californian’s know Kapono played college basketball at UCLA. He was the first player in the school’s history to lead the team in scoring four straight years.

Kapono, has averaged 6.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and has shot 43.7 percent from three point range in his career.

Will Jason Kapono be a good fit for the Lakers?

43.7% from 3 for his career? In the words of Brian Wilson “that’s called you’re welcome!” That’s also “garuns!”

Seriously though… this is a good pickup for the veterans min. The Lakers really lacked shooting big-time last year. Looking back you realize how important Farmar and Vuyacic were at spreading the floor for the Lakers and opening up lanes for the big guys.

If he can hit more 3’s than Vujacic’s last season with LA, which I believe was 1, then he will be worth the investment.

Kapono welcome to #Lakers family, We wish you all the best!

  • bye bye brown

1 year for the vet min not a bad pick up if he can still shoot 43.7% from deep becuase other than that he’s got no game.

Hopefully this signing means Shannon Brown is in the trade rumors and not Odom. Odom is just as important to the team as Kobe is. With this signing their is no longer a need for Shannon Brown and Shannon Brown’s value right now for trades is very high.
I love this signing to me it paints a better picture for the future as far as who we want to keep and who we want to trade. If I’m right I love this, could lead to two trades in the future.

why do they always pick veterans, we need fast young playerrsss, NOT old tired players, our line-up is okay with age but our back court could be a lottt better

  • Retardforjoiningarmy

this pickup is solid i guess either way with or without dwight our bigs demand doble teams as well as kobe so kopono for a wideopen 3 will b a pleasantly often sight….hes still got no game besides the 3 tho haha…UCLA now 2 the lake show, Welcome brotha!!!
