Posey signs with rival Hornets…

ESPN: NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday that James Posey has agreed to a four-year deal with the New Orleans Hornets worth an estimated $25 million.

Because of future luxury-tax concerns, Boston was apparently reluctant to offer Posey, 31, more than a two- or three-year deal starting at the league’s mid-level exception (just under $5.6 million) in spite of Posey’s considerable contributions to the Celtics’ first championship since 1986.

  • Michael24

but why they have bonzi wells already

  • T.A.

    good addition for hornets but

not worth 25 mill over 4 years

  • M0Z

We better go out and get Artest or Marion Because we might not make it out of the West without them…..

  • e

    they overpaid

  • 2inthepink1inthestink

we just loss out on a great addition

  • http://ld2k.com LD2k

They were the only ones that were willing to pay that – they got him. Makes the Hornets pretty damn tough, but I think we’ll be fine with a Bynum/Gasol/Odom front line. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I want that.

Either way, we’re going to steamroll over the league next season. I cannot wait!

Man.. All the people that we wanted to sign are going somewhere else. First Artest did not opt out. Then Ronny goes to GS. Now Posey. Mitch is busy sleepin.

  • lakersno834

By The way .. I agree with MOZ. If we don’t improve our team.. We will not go to the finals. Mark my words.

  • Freshh

People hype him up too much.
He Possesses a toughness and has been on championship teams.
    but 4 year deal ha.

    Artest Time?

  • http://ld2k.com LD2k

Well this is good news, we can resign Sasha for a buck or two – hopefully.

We did improve our team. We added Bynum and Ariza two starters. Mitch sleepin??? I hope he is sleeping becuz if he doesn’t get his sleep he might not make a fair trade. Keep sleeping Mitch it helps rejuvenate the mind.

Hornets already got Peja and Bonzi..I wonder how much PT Posey will get

  • Diehardfan

For one, I think that there is no reason to panic or to be pessimistic and think that the Lakers are not going to win a title. First of all, one of the biggest differences when the Lakers lost Bynum was that their defense suffered. Even though we had Pau our interior defense was not as good as when we had Bynum. So, I think that the Lakers are going to win the title this coming season. Besides, we never got a chance to see how good Ariza can be. He can defenitely be a player like Posey and he is even more athletic and younger.

  • VoiceofReason

Who cares at least the Celtics will be a weaker team now. Hornets arent going anywhere either.

  • Vaporize

O well, [Comment ID #45696 Will Be Quoted Here]
Agree, I’m waiting for the two to start playing. I’m pretty sure Ariza’s working hard on his mid-long range (like amare status). I still agree with a few and see if odom would work as a 3. Everyone remembers his inconsistency and lack of aggression, but once Bynum comes back it will be all good. Odom gets all the blame, but other players weren’t playing to their true potential. Pau? Farmar? Sasha? Give them another chance. Now with finals experience, which only fish and kobe, they know the atmosphere and what to do next time.

  • Daryl Imhoff

The Hornets just improved their team. However, the Lakers improved far more by getting a healthy Bynum and a healthy Ariza. By the way the
Celtics have really done nothing to improve and the loss of Posey really hurts their chances to repeat.

    Another opportunity out the window.

  • M0Z

Teams will be gunning for our heads next year. no more surprises. the whole team and coaching staff should be held accountable for what happened against Boston…..We are one player away from winning a title IMO and hopefullly Artest or Marion can fill those shoes. I just don’t think the Lakers will sign LO to a long term deal so he will most likely get dealt before training camp starts.

  • John Barry Sux

Im happy about this move because it gives the Celtics one less Kobe stopper. Unfortunately he landed with another really good team. Posey is a solid addition to any team but he just played well in the big spotlight of the finals… he is not worth that money. IS ANYONE ELSE SURPRISED THAT RONNIE GOT THIS BIG OFFER FROM GOLDEN STATE AND SASHA IS GETTING NO OFFERS?

  • varsityoptimism

    grooooooosssssly overpaid for this one

  • yellowpurplefever

Where are Hibetches and Joeblow? I told you so, w/o Posey NO MO ring for YA’LL. discuss this among yourself in your own forum Ahole. You Celts have not see Andrew yet! “Kill Bill” is coming soon to a theater in LA!!!hahaha!

we have a big hole at the 3 no steam rolling until we address that.

  • ricky

now that most of the better free agents are all signed on with other teams, it would be best if we just focus on making a trade. if the trade for artest does not go down, i just think that the lakers should just match golden state’s offer sheet and re-sign sasha and just bring back the team. with bynum coming back, i think we can still roll through the league no problem.

You mean those Boston Suckdic fans. HA HA HA. This just shows that the Boston organization doesn’t value players that contributed to their team. First this and from what I’ve read the Suckdics aren’t willing to offer Eddie House a larger contract. Real classy Boston Suckdics. Guys that contributed to your first title in over 20 years and this is how you repay them. BOSTON SUCKDICS!!!

  • lakers24

celtics lost there best perimeter defender, now the lakers could win the championship now, celtics are screwed , celtics have a problem now, raptors have jermanine oneal now, an the east is getting stronger now, fcuk paul pierce ,hes overrated ,celtics are not gonna repeat and that is there last championship.

    Lakers 2008-2009 NBA Championships!!!!

  • MILO

Posey or not we still have the Hornets number oh yeaaah!

  • S-quire

Yeah, more and more I’m thinking I want to keep our roster intact for now. We can get rid of our least useful player down the road later in the season after Luke and Vladdy play better and increase their trade value. Just replace Ronny with someone affordable and make Trevor do the 3 point shoot out by himself about 20 times a day, we’ll be good if we can avoid injury.

  • kPoAbUe

Well good for the hornets. guys guys we made it to the finals winning 2 games against Boston without our 2 good players. We beat Jazz we beat the former defending champs spurs and we beat got 2 games in da finals without bymun and ariza. so what let them get it cause if they get the second seed we might not have to play them in da playoffs.

  • MILO

Nick Caner-Medley from the summer league! i think hes more of a SF but he is an energy guy like Turriaf!!!

  • goodfella

forget this fool. get artest or marion, guaranteed a trip back to the finals, winning it this time.

Other teams are stacking their roster and another year where Mitch or whoever got they hand up his $$$,do absolutely NUTHIN.

Where something…GET SOMEBODY,ANYBODY it doesn’t even have to Artest or Marion, there are capable players…hmmm, let’s see….

  • Lakerboi

The Hornets over paid; No way would we give him 6 mil per year. I am glad that he left Celtics. Not worried about Hornets.

  • Rpoc

It’s not the best of news but it’s OK news. The Celtics lost a key role player and that’s always good.

The Hornets gaining that key role player is not very good. They had no one remotely capable of guarding swingmen. Now they have that. And Chris Paul has some big games us so this will be an annoyance in the future.

  • ab4sure

Instead of hatin Posey we should thank him. No posey on the celtics is good for the Lakers.

  • Daryl Imhoff

I agree Nik Caner-Medley reminds me of Mark Madsen. He is 6’8″ and 240
also Sharrod Ford has shown good hussel. These are two possible replacements for Ronny and they are far less than Ronny. Keep the team in tack. One source has stated that the Lakers are in the running for
Artest but have not committed to offering Lamar. Let the team play the first few months of the season before major changes take place. Celtics offered Sac a sign and trade of Posey for Artest. I am sure glad that did not happen.

Are you dreamin’? There’s not enough shooting ability with that dream tall frontline. Odom is not going to stretch the floor cuz he ain’t a sharp shooter. What we will have with that front line is Gasol and Bynum crowding in the post and Odom driving it in and committing a charge every time. Sure, sometimes LO makes his shots, but again he ain’t a sharp shooter. Gasol can shoot the 15 footer, but still he and Bynum and Odom will crowd inside. It doesn’t work unless one of them is a 3 point threat.

That’s the type of a front line that has never worked for any team. When have you ever seen a team with starting C and PF playing the post together and its SF not able to light fire from 3 point range?

  • Parich

[Comment ID #45731 Will Be Quoted Here]

Hold that thought. Now that the Hornets HAVE IMPROVED, they will become a road block for the Lakers in many years to come. They have just added a 3 point threat and a proven defender.

    “Posey signs with rival Hornets…”
When exactly did they become our rivals? I don’t think there’s any history between our two teams?

  • awaker85

How bout we trade Lamar, Farmar, Trevor, and the rights to Joe Crawford or Sun Yue plus a future first round draft pick to Denver for Carmelo and Steven Hunter???

Or maybe Lamar,Bynum,Farmar, Ariza for Carmello and Camby?

its was an honor posey! congrats, now go get your money… seeing you beating the fakers for 39 points in the finals was priceless!

    I took y’all 24 years to win a ‘Chip.We came back down by “24” in Game 2,in a loss,then,Y’all come back down by 24 in Game 4?!?

Let’s do the math…24 years without a Championship,Games 2 and Game 4 both games down each team down by “24”,GET IT ,no? Again,Game 2 and 4,put them together you get the “24” Anniversary of the last time you WON A ‘CHIP,sounds like Stern up to his ‘Old’ tricks again.
