Slam Online: For the second straight night, Andrew Bynum suggested that Phil Jackson didn’t use him properly. After hearing criticism from his coach about a lack of rebounding (Young Andrew only managed three boards) in the victory against the bumbling Sixers, Bynum explained his shortcomings on the boards to the media.

From the Press-Enterprise:

“I might have gotten some in the last six minutes,” Bynum said, referring to being on the bench in the latter stages of the fourth quarter for the second straight night. “You never know until the fat lady sings, and she sings for me a lot.”

As for Phil, he doesn’t think Bynum has any right to question his decisions regarding playing time and rotations.

“That’s none of his business. He just goes out and plays. That’s his job,” Jackson said matter-of-factly. When pressed further, he smiled wryly and added, “He’s a kid. He doesn’t know any better.”

I don’t think any real problems are going to arise between Phil and Andrew as the season drags on (Phil’s too shrewd to let that happen), but it’ll be fun to watch just how much longer they’ll continue to lob quips at one another through the Fourth Estate.

ab needs to stop acting like the pig he’s replacing…

  • daboss1848

does any1 think it is possible that either one of these highly overpaid infants will grow up and not exacerbate the situation?

    Yeah, me neither!

  • Nick Lachey USA

I’m sure this is another one of Phil’s mind games.

    “highly overpaid” your retarded.

  • jason420_7

bynum needs to shut his mouth and just play basketball period end of story!!

  • xtro

another one of the zen master’s motivational mind games . ya gotta luv it!!

  • gugy

Bynum thinks he is hot sh•t.
IMHO shut the f up and play ball. You still have too much to prove before opening your mouth, big kid.

PJ has 9 RINGS! so be quiet spoiled brat! :-)

dammit, i knew there was something wrong with me but i couldnt quite put my finger on it . . . thanks for the diagnosis!!!

  • ShortDiezel

Phil Jackson has 9 rings… yes we all know this, but does that mean we have no right to criticize him? Players evolve, and so must the coaches. Sometimes the old ways that made you successful, become obsolete but you are too blinded by habit and routine to realize it.

Personally, I am impressed by Phil’s coaching but I do think he needs to utilize his time outs more effectively and become more personal with his players.

I think the current rotation he has is the most effective. If Bynum does not agree with Phil’s strategy, he should discuss it with Phil directly, NOT through the media.

  • euphoria

drew, just shut up and play.

the reason the bench was replaced in the fourth quarter in indiana was you guys were blowing the 16 point lead that was built up.

and phil is correct in criticizing you for only getting 3 rebounds. and what about all of those layups and shots in the paint and rebounds – where you’re suppose to be controlling.

    prove yourself first.

  • jamaicans-for-KOBE

we don’t need this type of thing going on right now…we need to be working tirelessly on our defense…we need to be preparing beat the C’s on christmas day.

we need to be focused on the end result- championship
Bynum will be fine..he is starting to look better..

  • Rey-Rey

Let’s see… he was in the final play of the Pacers game and he didn’t get a rebound.

And then he only ends up getting three boards last night. If he had a problem with Phil, talk to him behind closed doors.

In the meantime, I don’t see Pau Gasol having problems getting rebounds; he had 13.

  • e

ab’s salary is getting into his head…he needs to really quiet down

  • Nick Lachey USA

Andrew Bynum is not protecting the paint well the past few games >_>.

  • Farmars_inner_Jordan

Bynum is watching too much Entourage… he’s being flashed too many dollar signs in front of his name. Pau performs better than him on any given night. If he wants to be like Yao or Shaq (during his golden years) he needs to bite the bullet and realize what is best for that name on the front of his jersey, not on his back.

PJ needs to lay down the law, and tell our young center that if he has anything to say, he should not be using the media. Boys open their mouths when its not their turn to talk. This is business, not personal.

All in all, they are both acting quite immature. Perhaps its one of those “mind games” PJ plays, but now is not the time for games. PJ must be feeling exonerated from losing the Pacers game, but lets face it, having two 7 footers and losing a game by rebounding is just bad coaching. Get your players in control, and keep a cool head.

OMFG…Caron should be hollerin’ at Mitch right about now, tryin’ to get his spot back…Wiz totally suck and Arenas should give up some of that 116 mil. he got.

  • daboss1849

average more than 7 points and 5 rebounds for your career and then you can say something…

  • Vida

    Hahahha wow
okay ya they both need to acting like a KID and do whats best for the team.

  • LakersLivefromDC

I bet’cha Bynum has his best game of the season tomorrow.

It’s alot of Laker fans in DC ready to show up to support THE BEST TEAM EVER IN BASKETBALL OR ANY SPORT for that matter.

Lakers 111-Wizards 95…this for ALL MY CALI BROTHERS OUT THERE,this how we get down in my part of town,

I agree, Bynum is at risk for complacency, especially with fat contract in tow…

  • ab4sure

If you guys think PJ is upset by Bynum voicing his concern publicly he is not. IN fact PJ probably is glad Bynum saying this. Remember PJ operates with Public criticism so I am sure he can take it. Bynum is 21 and has growing pains but you can’t expect him to be a docile little puppy. He didn’t degrade his coach, team, owner of the lakers or ask to be traded so I would relax a bit. When he does that then criticism is warranted. Would you rather have a guy sit on his fat contract and not care about being productive as so many do???

  • thelakerfuture

if drew wants more minutes he’s got to stop getting in foul trouble

  • Geloman

I would like to see Bynum close out a game. I’m curious how effective or ineffective he’ll be. Lamar’s been ineffective all season long and he seems to be the one finishing games.

I agree however that Bynum seems to be focusing more on his offensive game the last few games and his defense has fallen. 3 boards and 1 block in the last game is bad. I wish he would show the same aggressiveness and tenacity on the boards and defense as he shows on offense.

dont be so stuck on ur opinions my friend…the future is always uncertain

  • LakersFirst

Bynum should quiet down and continue to learn. If and when he becomes an all-star, and plays with consistency, then he can speak up but until that time comes, AB stay quiet and respect your elders (especially one that has 9 rings).

  • kvsm23vs24

I actually agree with AB to me Phil is way overrated Pop>>>>> Phil
He has 9 rings yeah ok but Michael was close in 89 when he went 7 games in the Easter Finals…..
Mike leaves they lose, he comes back they win.
Yhen he has top 3 centers of all time who already went to the finals, an athletic Kobe Bryant and a veteran team who went to the west Finals year prior.
Had Fantastic 4 4-1 we lose,
    And then last year.
I did like him in Chicago though more he showed way more emotion.
Now he has the greatest player in the game and a top 4 PF and nice team.
I mean that 16 point lead was there because ofthe reserves and Bynum was for like 5 min where he could have gotten some rebounds.
I Love Lakers but it does not mean I have to like Phil

  • sketch

Ridiculous! Bynum STFU!!! if you keep this crap up, you’ll find more minutes on the pine!

  • e

contrary to what most of lakersnation will say, i disagree with the opinion that bynum will one day be a legend…he doesnt have a killer instinct in him…and highly doubt he’ll remain with the lakers in the not 100% but with his new attitude, he seems like the type to chase the green

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #56085 Will Be Quoted Here]

Remember, MJ, Shaq, and Kobe were winning games before Phil….HOWEVER, none of them and rings before Phil. It wasn’t until Phil came that the Bulls won championships and the same with the Lakers earlier this decade. That has to say something.

e…. I say you move to F. As in nothing makes effing sense with your response to my post. “future is uncertain”… plz..

    ok.. “my friend”.

  • e

[Comment ID #56125 Will Be Quoted Here]

it doesnt make sense to you because you’re unable to read into what i’m saying…and instead of acting like a 10 yr old speak directly to the point bcuz ur clearly not clever…

u claim bynum hasnt “degrade[d] his coach, team, owner of the lakers or [hasnt] ask[ed] to be traded”..and you say when he does, that is when critcism is warranted..hence i said the future is uncertain…so once again, dont be so stuck on certain opinions…my friend

  • e

[Comment ID #56125 Will Be Quoted Here]

i believe ill leave it at e bcuz “effing” begins with e..thank you very much for your concern nonetheless

  • megaloco10

yeah i agree bynum needs to shut up..

still i will like to see him in the end of close games ’cause he really protects our paint..way better than gasol and odom.
