L.A. Times: It is inexcusable, the Lakers having to play five games against a team like Houston, and at times making it appear as if it’s a struggle.

This thing should be over Sunday, the Lakers getting another chance to freshen up before continuing the playoff grind, but instead they’re going to be exposed to injury, flagrant-foul crazed referees and whatever fate might have planned for them.

I blame it all on Sasha Vujacic.

He’s supposed to be the dagger, John Paxson, Steve Kerr and Robert Horry sticking it to an opponent and in the process freeing up the team’s superstar to do even more damage.

From start to finish, of course, it’s all about Kobe, but setting up a wide open Vujacic often is a momentum-changer.

“I don’t know what the problem is,” said Vujacic, taking a longer shower than any other Laker, although he hardly worked up a sweat in missing five of six shots. “I’m getting some wide-open shots, and you could wake me up at four in the morning and I’m going to make that shot. But right now it’s not there.”

The Contraption has to start making shots. His shooting has been WAY off. He is playing way out of control – throwing up off balance shots and hacking wildly on D. His first shot in game 2 banged wildly off the backboard and over the rim from one side of the court to the other – RIDICULOUS!

He should be made to take a pay cut. He is too wrapped up in his “machine” persona and he needs to get back to the basic fundamentals.

  • purplegoldvein

seems like he just needs to relax a little out there, he jacks up shots so quick that hes off balance and the shot as a whole is thrown off it course. sasha your making me look bad man, i keep saying your gonna show up next game and im still waiting!!!!!!!!!!!

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

he stinks everytime he gets out there hes always looking to hit threes and missing alot of them instead of trying to make plays for others like my man shannon brown.

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

does anyone know if robert horry would come back to the lakers? i really miss that dude!! i bet a guy at his age would still be better than bums like sasha and luke and farmar.

  • T-Dub

Could have had Posey or Petris instead. Bad move Mitch! could have kept this guy for the league minimum.

  • jack

relax everyone. chill. don’t get mad at my boy. did u guys forget sasha and kobe were the only two working hard during the finals last year? sashas gonna b back. i don’t know wats got to him, but i know he will start making shots anytime, sooner than later. he will shoot a big 3 sometime to help our team. at least, hes working harder than bynum.

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

fire mitch and get back jerry west thats all i have to say damn i miss the shaq and kobe days although shaq is a pain in the ass people will have to accept that is jersey will be retired at la.

  • Jason

I actually have to agree with this article. Sasha is a huge key, and for all the crud he gets on this site he actually can play decent defense, able to handle the ball a little bit and when he’s knocking down his three like last year he’s a complete dagger out their. WHEN he gets his shooting touch back, the Lakers will almost impossible to beat.

You don’t know that we could have kept Sasha for minimum. That is a crazy statement. You are the one who dissed Mitch for keeping Bynum. Still want JO? Kidd? Please, if Mitch followed your plan we would have been a middle of the road pack team and we would be losing kobe this summer because he would have opted out and would never resign with the Lakers. Mitch Kupchak Laughs at people like you.

i agree with this article, but come on, exaggeration much. we all know how hard this boy works, and i agree with jack, sooner or later hes going to be back, and i also think part of this slump for him is mental, he needs to just relax out there play smart and his shot will come.

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

sasha plays good defense?? if he did we wouldnt of had our assses handed to us by the boston celdicks in alst year final he always shoots way offf yes he shoots good sometime but for my money hes inconsistent.

You are F*cking retarded. All you do is bash the Lakers Players reapeatedly and never look at the good things that they do for the team. Yes, I agree Sasha has been shooting bad this year and he takes questionable shots sometimes but I know that sooner or later he will hit a big one and it will get his confidence up. Jordan had a great game today for not playing significant minutes in like 2 months. Luke missed some open 3s in the second, but he hit two key buckets in a row to end the half that really keyed or run in the third. So stop bashing this team so much and appreciate the good things they bring for once. Im really wondering if you even are a true Laker fan or just a dumbass Boston-esque bandwagoner. Stop b*tching and just enjoy the team that we have because its not very often that an organization will have a team as talented to make a championship run as we have now. Dont take it for granted. F*cking loser.

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

the idiot above me im a true laker fan since west playing for la im no youngn and i know when a player stinks and when a player is not contributing.

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

if you cant hit a dagger shot when kobe gives u good looks then ur a complete retard player its as simple as that and to top it off u cant play defense so why are u even playing for the lakers?

Okay you may be a true fan but why do you gotta bash our players over and over again like they are pure scrubs. You have to understand that every player has his strengths and weaknesses and that you have to forgive their shortcomings. Ya I know Sasha has struggled this year overall with his shot but he has hit some key shots for us during the regular season in close games. And why the f*ck do you hate Farmar? The dude just had an awesome game after not playing significant minutes in like 2 months! Just relax for once and try to look at the good things NBA players do. Besides Sasha would murder ass in a 1 on 1 match!LMAO

  • Dragon

We should have kept Vrad and got rid of Sasha at least Vrad is a much better shooter than Sasha and can play better defense cause he’s bigger and stronger. But then again dunno if we could have gotten Shannon for Sasha.

  • iamthetie

I actually loved this article when I read it earlier this morning. Someone has got to send Sasha a message encouraging him. I think him recognizing that he can make everything except when it counts is holding him back. If the machine gets rolling, our bench is ridiculously deadly.

  • RON ARTEST LOVES CAULK

SOMEONE NEEDS TO HIT SASHA THE WAY HE HITS THE OTHER LAKERS BEFORE A GAME! MAYBE THEN HE WOULD WAKE DEF HUCK UP!

    Well said.

Posey didn’t play anything this year and did nothing to help New Orleans. Besides the Lakers couldn’t offer Posey anything other than the MLE because they resigned Bynum. As for Pietrus…HAHAHAHA funny.

  • David

I was never a fan of Sasha. I couldn’t stand him since he became a Laker because of his style of play and his constant whining. It really pissed me off that in his contract year, all of a sudden he starts making shots for the first time in his life get a contract extension and lays eggs all of this season. I don’t know why this always happens to players in their contract years. It’s like some god like force intervenes to elevate their play for just that 1 year. (see sasha, and luke)

  • KONG!

lulz, ppl in this thread are getting troll’d and upset over nothing. sahsa WAS a good shooter but that’s about it. fouls too much on defense and puts us in the penalty.

  • Dracul

The reason that he’s missing is that he doesn’t take that fraction of a second to focus on the target, he catches and shoots so fast that he doesn’t have time to fully ‘load’ the kinetic programming of the shot from his mental and muscle memory. I think he finds himself open, he knows that a defender is gonna be mad rushing at him, and he desperately wants to contribute, so he feels that he may not get another open shot, so he lets it fly as soon as he catches it.

I think he just needs to take a little bit more time to focus at the basket, and his shooting touch should be fine. On defense, he needs to stop playing so spastic – he fouls 700 feet from the basket so much! Fawk!

this is a bunch of bull****….sasha is not the reason lakers are struggling….who cares he is in shooting slump every player has a shooting slump …but honestly he was the only laker to me that played hard in game one and has been hustling for us he has not shot well but he has played pretty good D and has created allot of extra possessions for us drawing offensive fouls on von wafer…why is it everytime players are struggling or not shooting well then you guys wont to trade him …u guys talk about trading him for example micheal petrius who is a good defender and pretty good shooter but think about it there is a reason he lost his starting spot to a rookie he makes bonehead plays and he is inconsistent…this is why mitch makes the decisions and us fans dont….the lakers are struggling bcuz for they just havent played hard enough lamar thinks he is a great jump shooter pau could be dominating this series if he was a little more aggressive… fish is not shooting well either the bench could play better as well…and everybody needs to play better Defense

  • omg lets panic!!!

lets trade our whole bench and pick up james posey and jason terry and anybody else we can find that is playing well at the moment and then wen they start to struggle then we can trade them again and so on until we find sum players that have no weaknesses and never have off nights bcuz the lakers bench right now is the worst bench in the nba right guys
