This isn’t a rumor or some sort of source, but a suggestion from writer Tommy Beer. What are your thoughts of seeing Stephon Marbury in the Purple & Gold? Sound-off in the comments.

HOOPSWORLD.COM: An ideal match may be the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe has been belly-aching all summer that Jerry Buss and Mitch Kupchak haven’t done enough to surround him with quality parts. Marbury is the type of scoring point guard that Phil Jackson prefers in his triangle offense. And the Lakers clearly need an upgrade at the PG position, as Smush Parker had started 162 straight games from 2005 through 2007.

Re-examining a possible fit with the Lakers, the Knicks could ask for LA’s 2007 first-round draft pick, Javaris Crittenton. Crittenton is a big 6’5″ guard with tremendous upside. How about swapping one Georgia Tech PG that left school after his freshman year for another? If the Lakers included Kwame Brown’s expiring contract (worth over $9 million), they’d be over halfway there in term of matching up money. The Lakers could also include Vladimir Radmanovic terrible contract (Knicks would likely shy away from that – but with Isiah you never know), or they could look to get a third team involved to help balance out the dollars.

aaah….noo!!

we dont need PG’s!!!

we need INSIDE PRESENCE!!! KG? JO?

also we need defensive minded players like Artest!

we got Kobe/Fisher/Javaris/Farmar/Sun Yue/Sasha/Mo Evans = ENOUGH GUARDS….lets get KG!!!!

• LAKobe4Life

Exactly, we don’t need a PG, we need an inside presense like KG. I think the Lakers are really determined right now to bring KG to the Lakers. Let’s see what happens, people can throw all these fantasy ideas around if they want, I definately don’t think the Lakers have a problem with the PG position anymore.

• showtime88

Another pg?

wtf…..

• http://www.youtube.com/darkice18 darkice18

LOOK WOLVES WANNA BUYOUT HUDSON…sooo

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/47266/20070722/wolves_want_to_buy_out_hudson/

For sure the wolves are rebuilding….

…also now that Hudson’s buyout will most likely happen…isnt that a benefit for us cause if we are aggresively trying to get KG we dont need to worry about Troy’s huge contract….

so we can do this:

Trade Lamar to either the celtics or chicago for either:

CELTICS: Green, Ratliff *expiring K*, and 2008 pick for Lamar Odom

CHICAGO: Joakim Noah, PJ Brown *expiring K* and 2008 pick for Lamar Odom

also we give em Bynum Kwame 2008 pick …so MINNY RECIEVES:

GREEN,RATLIFF, 2008 picks (2), KWAME,BYNUM for KG and BLOUNT

OR

JOAKIM NOAH,PJ BROWN, 2008 picks (2), KWAME,BYNUM for KG and BLOUNT

• http://myspace.com/crunklilgangsta Kenny

i would want him …but we need inside presence and defense but its not like id be mad if we did get him and kept Odom i mean look

Star/kobe/luke/odom/kwame

• http://LAKERS.COM Mitch Kupchak

No more PG’s

We need KG or JO…period

HELL NO

• lakersforlife77

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

• Ricky

no more point guards!! the lakers already have fisher, farmar, and crittenton. that is already a good lineup at the pg position. plus, i dont think marbury would want to leave new york now that he has 2 huge monsters working in the paint in eddy curry and zack randolph. i think new york has done a tremendous job in acquiring randolph, they can go far in the east with marbury, curry, and randolph…will be interesting.

• jk9999990

dont worry hoops world at the end of the article said marbury will most likely stay in new york

• billyboy

OMFG!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP POSTING BULLSHIT

• Sepehr

Does this writer know anything about basketball???
Marbury had shown that he is terrible by playing in many teams and as soon as leaving the team has a revival. Nets, Suns, New York. He is a horrible point guard who takes more bad shots than assists, plays 0 defense and has a bigger Ego than anyone in the NBA.

• Cyrus

Marbury??? Are you kidding me??? What is this nonsense???

This is the most stupid suggestion. Mitch Kupchak might be a moron but he’s not a crackhead!!!!!

• Rpoc

You see, this is why HOOPSWORLD is a land waste.

• http://www.getgarnett.com Fred A.

No not again, I would not definitly not make that move.
Trading Java for Stephon will hurt the team even more.
Give Critt a chance he is better. One thing I do know is
we got enough of Guards all we need is a PF and that is
KG or JO. I perfer KG at all cost, but reality that is JO is more reasonble if we keep Odom in this deal. Enough said
it is KG or JO.

• kim

WE ALREADY HAVE FISHER!!!

ALL we need is Artest and a inside presence on the offence and on the defence like camby could be it on defence and odom on offence or JO and KG could be both…

• EastCoastJessie

I’m going to try to say what I have to say without swearing too much……ok nevermind, I’ll just say this…

HELLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOO!

We don’t need a point guard and we certainly don’t need Marbury. Let him go on selling his $15 sneakers in NYC and go off to Italy hopefully sooner rather than later.

• dakobestopper

that’s dumb. marbury has no brain. he makes radmonivic look like he has the basketball mind of tex winter.

• kb2481

we have 3 pointsguard why do we need another????? get artest and jo (if kg doesnt come here)

• kb2481

get jo if we cant get garnett thats what i meant
and get artest for kwame and next years pick

• http://WWW.GETGARNET.COM KOBE_FAN#24

i would never give up java for old ass marbery
NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• saipanlakerfan

If Mitch actually got Marbury that then he’s trully retarded. KG or JO! Artest would be sweet! Kinda nuts, but then Rodman helped the bulls return to glory (remember they became favorites to win the title again right when they got Rodman because defence rules). Artest and KG?! Can you say re-three-peat?

• laker2421

Hell NO! KG is the perfect match for Kobe.

• fred0s

Well, think about it this way, if we could get rid of all our bad contracts (I think sending Brown, Radmanovic, Cook, Vujacic and/or any other bad contracts) and include Crittenton, it wouldn’t be such a bad deal. I mean sure we would have a big contract, but in 2 years, that would be more than $22 million comming off the books in 2 years. Again, I’d rather get Garnett or O’Neal, but if it means giving up garbage (and Crittenton) for him, it wouldn’t be such a bad deal.

Now if he wants something else other than our bad contracts, then no deal should be made.

• Fatty

Its amazing, I’m on vacation in beautiful Santa Barbara, and the site is working well without me.

Please no Marbury.

OK, now back to vacation. Later….

• Billy Kupchak

Starbury!

• Big Ticket

See, this is what I’m talking about. This article is worthless speculation but printed anyway. Then, people respond as if anyone actually gives a @#@ about Marbury.

The bigger story is Phoenix trading Kurt Thomas to Seattle for Seattle’s $9 Million dollar exception which will net Phoenix over $17 Million in cap space. That is HUGE and could make Phoenix viable enough to land KG.

Hoopsworld analysts are no better than many of the posters here. Who cares what they print up just to fill out their pages? Why not post this Phoenix deal as a topic and its implications for all to comment upon?

• tj

for the million’th time Phil wants tall gaurds to run his offense…why is this so hard to grasp.

• lakerfan81

Big Ticket.
That was actually a horrible trade for PHX. It really does not net PHX any cap space whatsoever. They are way over the cap and will be next season as well (there salary for next year is 71M which will be over the luxury tax and way over the cap). What it does do is save them about 8M (or whatever the trade exceptions is in luxury tax. That is the only reason this trade was made. Unless they use the trade exception to get another player (who would have to be equal to less than the trade exception). The reason this was such a horrible trade for PHX is because they gave up too 1st round picks (2008, 2010). PHX keeps trading away their 1st round picks to save money. That is horrible for a teams future. This trade becomes even worse if Nash gets injured or starts to go down hill after next season because then that 2010 pick might be pretty good. Even worse for PHX is if ATL does good next season. I think they have a chance to make the playoffs, which would mean that their pick, which PHX has the rights too, will not even be a lotter pick. So basically by trading away all of their 1st round picks they do not have the ability top bring in young talent to replace an aging Nash when the time comes.

• kb24mvp

not this yr they wer 11mill plus over da luxury tax they wer 3rd behind ny and dal so now they are only payin 2plus mil in taxes.next yr if marion opts out they will have about 16-17mil but KG will be gone by then plus it wouldnt make phx any better cuz phx system is not one for KG a run and gun for sum1 that will b 32 plus nash will b another yr older.it aint gonna happen!!!!

• http://www.myspace.com/regg66 rpouncy14

Marbury 2 da Lakers?, hmm, I don’t think it’s gonna happen.

• Bring Back Rick Fox

First of all, Marbury is not a triangle PG. He dribbles too much and is too much of a shoot first player to play well with Kobe.

Secondly, the Lakers don’t need anymore PG’s, we’re set.

Third, who is this Beer guy anyway? What credibility does he have to be making suggestions? If I came out and said the Cavs should trade Lebron to the Lakers, would I have any more credibility than this guy?

• laker8nate24

ahhhhh hell no! keep marbury outta LA! him n kobe wud fight 4 sure…plus crittenton has POTENTIAL…and i wish we wud just face it, we aint gettin KG, so i go JO without trading odom…mitch u suk! let jeanie be the gm, she can do better than ur punk azz

• Anonymous
..go JO without trading odom…mitch u suk! let jeanie be the gm, she can do better than ur punk azz
why do you people keep saying that? indiana wants both and mitch wont give both, its either odom or bynum, so many people keep stating “go jo w/o lO” its been tried.

• http://myspace.com/wasayshahid36 wasay shahid

maybe we can get him and then trade him for some big men like jo or kg withiut giving up lamar or ab

• Cyrus

Fatty,

I am glad to see you alive and well. How’s that headache?

• Q WUOR

HEY GUYS JUST FOR THE LACK OF NEW THREADS.. THIS IS AN EXCERPT OF WHAT WADE FANS FROM IRA WINDERMAN MIAMI HEATS BLOGS THINK ABOUT KOBE BRYANT’S INTRASQUAD GAME.

Kobe hit the game winner… I could see him and Kidd playing big minutes. It will certainly help Kobe’s legacy if he can lead this USA squad to victory while also clearly being the best player on the team. I think in the last couple of years, no one player wanted to step up and be the man, but Kobe’s ego is big enough that he just might do it and people like Lebron will take a back seat.

This looks like a situation Kobe dreams about…

Posted by: JB | July 22, 2007 at 09:57 PM

If Kobe does this, after D-Wade failed with somewhat close to the same cast he will undoubtedly further his reputation of superiority over his nemesis. But it looked to me like Jason Kidd/LeBron James were the strongest offensive weapon the entire game, despite the fact that the blue team won. I would want the offense run through those guys but in the last minutes of the game, the Ball should be in Kobe’s hands every possession.

• GetPlayers

Lakers should trade Brown, Cook, Java, 2 pick, and future picks for Marbury

Then after that use Marbury in a trade which would include Bynum, Marbury, and Luke and 1 Rounder for Garnett. Our Line up would look like this:

C: Mihm
PF:Garnett
SF:Odom
SG:Kobe
PG:Farmar
