HOOPSWORLD.COM: LA can also wait to package Farmar in a bigger scale trade to bring All-Star level talent like Kevin Garnett or Jermaine O’Neal. Of course both presently seem like dead ends.

The Indiana Pacers appear to be focused on center Andrew Bynum (who has impressed the Lakers this summer with his offseason dedication). In addition, the Pacers are adamant they get Lamar Odom as well for O’Neal.

Garnett is the big fish that many fans “expect” the Lakers to land. Never mind that the Minnesota Timberwolves are contemplating keeping Garnett beyond the summer.

Recently team owner Glen Taylor told the Star Tribune that he didn’t think a Garnett trade would happen, “Are we willing to live with what we have, with Kevin and making some minor changes? Yes. But if a team came along, if we saw the right thing and it made sense? Maybe. But I don’t see it.”

A deal that would likely be very interesting to the Wolves would include Jordan Farmar, Andrew Bynum and Joakim Noah (along with expiring contracts).

Farmar is a goner has been for a while.

I do not think Farmar is as expendable as Pincus thinks. I rather like our three headed PG right now. I do not think that Fisher will be starting; Farmar will. Fisher will come off the bench and play in the 4th quarter. He will get about 20-25 minutes a game so that Phil can save him for the playoffs where he will get more minutes. I could be wrong it is hard to tell what Phil will do.

I am also not sold on Crittenton being a valuable reserve right away. The kid has the full package to be a star; athleticism, strength, quickness, size, but he still has a long way to come.

Farmar may be expendable if he is moved in a blockbuster trade, but that leaves the Lakers very thin at the PG position.

    lakerfan81,

Good assessment (as usual). I do believe Fish will get more minutes to start the season (and might even start for the first ten to twenty games or so) because of his knowledge of the triangle, but Phil will replace Fish with Farmar after that and we will see Fish’s minutes decline until the playoffs.

Farmar should only be traded to acquire KG or maybe JO, but I really see no other reason to trade him and think this will be a very good year for him. In the mean time, Critt should come a long way in his first year and should become a very valuable asset come next year.

Oh and regarding your earlier post today, I agree the Lakers should not overpay for KG (and definitely not include Odem for JO).

The Lakers’ best option may be to wait until both KB and LO have healed from surgery and let Bynum and Farmar have their breakout years this year. Come February, McHale may be begging to trade KG to us before he opts out next summer.

trade odom to the bulls for Noah and PJ Brown (expiring K)..then trade Kwame, Farmar, and Cook to the wolves along with Noah and PJ Brown, and 2008 and 2010 first rounders too!!!

    Re-sign Mihm and a sign a veteran Center/PF (Chris Webber?)…

    Lineup:

    Fisher/Javaris/Sun Yue? (China)
    Kobe/Mo Evans/Sasha
    Luke/Vlade/Coby Karl? (D-League)
    KG/Ronny/Chris Webber?
    Bynum/Mihm/Marc Gasol? (Spain)

    CHAMPS!!!!!?????!!!!?

What a freaking awesome artical, oh my gosh! YAY!!!

I like Farmar a lot. Always have. He was UCLA’s best player when they played in the Finals and he’s got brains and heart. He already earned the starting PG position in the playoffs against Nash and he has done his time as a rookie in the system. Critt sounds like a great addition and I hope we can keep him and develop him as he’s a more prototypical PG for the triangle than Jordan. But as LF81 says – this guy’s got a long way to go. He’s a year behind Farmar and he’s played well in SPL so I think he will be the guy on the block before Jordan if a PG is needed to complete a trade.

Whole lots of press and speculation that nothing is going to happen re: one of these trades Minny or Indy. I’m fine with it. It lowers the expectations and if something actually does go down hopefully it won’t get exposed in the media prematurely and blow the deal. If nothing does happen I’ll be disappointed to say the least, but I’m cool with all this pub against it happening to keep any potential on the down low.

dude you’re joking right? so the bulls are happy with 2 whiteboys? mark madsen and vladimir? those are the 2 worst players in the history of the nba.. and minnesota is NOT interested in Bynum or Odom’s huge salary

  • habib

Viktor Khryapa???? This guy made 2 million last year? And he only averaged 2 points per game. These salaries are getting out of hand. Kwame getting 9 million makes no sense at all. This guy doesn’t deserve 9 dollars.
