Chris Paul has made it clear that he will not re-sign with the New Orleans Hornets. Dwight Howard is believed to send that same message to Orlando in the coming days.

The Lakers have a lot going for them when it comes to acquiring one of these stars.

They play in a big market (Something both Paul and Howard want).

Furthermore, the Lakers have pieces that can make the trade acceptable for both franchises.

Yahoo! Sports, Adrian Wojnarowski makes the claim that the Hornets and Magic are in a race to get some of the Lakers talent in return for their respective superstar:

In a lot of ways, the Hornets and Orlando Magic are in a race to make a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers for Paul and Howard. They’re running so many scenarios across the big boards in their offices, but make no mistake: Los Angeles is the port that can entice Paul and Howard to sign extensions, with the one player – young center Andrew Bynum– as a centerpiece that can justify the trade.

The Lakers and Hornets talked several days ago, league sources told Yahoo! Sports, but it was one of those circuitous conversations that left the sides unclear what it would take to get a deal done, and the talk ended with no formal offers. The Lakers and Hornets expect to speak again this week, sources said. The prospect of Pau Gasol as the primary player going to the Hornets won’t be acceptable, sources said. The Lakers will ultimately be willing to let New Orleans pick its player in the deal – Bynum or Gasol – but New Orleans is determined to get quality, and quantity, in a deal.

Free agency officially begins on December 9th, but teams have “officially” began talks today.

    • Reenua

Blake and Walton needs to go………PERIOD, neither gives “US” help.

  • James Ensley

Pau is less likely to get injured, trade Bynum for Howard. And then look to see if we can get CP3…

  • kupchaksolo

If we can’t get cp3 or dhoward

bynum for steph curry and dorrell wright from golden state

    • Guest

OBVIOUSLY IT WOULD BE STUPID, THATS WHY WE’RE NOT TRADING BOTH. NOW STOP TYPING IN CAPITAL LETTERS!

BYNUM IS SET TO HAVE HIS BEST SEASON AT 7.1 280 POUNDS U CANT AFFORD TO LOOSE A GUY LIKE THIS….FOR CP3 AS GOOD AS HE PROBABLY IS…CENTERS ARE NOT ABUNDANT,REGARDING PAU HE IS DAMN GOOD AND ALSO A 7 FOOTER CP3 IS GOOD BUT IS NOT WORTH TO LOOSE OUR TWINTOWERS

I rather see Dwight Howard in a laker dress than Chris Paul. I like them both and Chris Paul would be a massive upgrade on our weakest spot. But sending away one of our bigs, possibly even a second one in Lamar… this would be too much for a pointguard and might backfire on the franchise in the next few years.

    • sheds

forgot to add “this would take away our biggest strength, the length in the middle”

Im bothered U wanan see guys in Laker “Dresses”…… lmao

      Wanna*

Right now we have three great bigs Pau, Bynum and Odom to help out Kobe Bryant which makes us (usually) a very hard team to beat. I don’t think we should trade away a big for a point guard because although it would add a stength it would take away a much bigger one… we only need one great player in the backcourt. As for D12, I’d be happy if we could get him straight up player for player with Bynum but otherwise it just isn’t worth it.

  • lakerHATER.

this is a joke right? he has said multiple times he wants to stay in orlando and also so have his friends…stop dreaming the lakers will never get howard…

    • Typhe

Whats your phone number. Let’s have a nice chat. Scared? I thought so.

    • Jrgomez

If we really wanted him we would have him!

Dwight wanting to stay in Orlando? Whats with all the fuss over trading him i see daily on sports pages then? Idiot

  • 123kid

As much as I would like to see either Dwight, Cp3, or both, I always stand by the the fact that when trade rumors go public for the Lakers, its almost slim to none that the trade goes through. I would like to be wrong this time, but my gut says that the more hype that this gets, the less likely any of the trades goes through.

Jerry Buss also likes to have stars…. I wouldnt put it passed the lakers front offices
