George Karl: “I thought they got the benefit of the whistle”

He says that Melo got “no calls,” yet, he shot more free throws than Kobe. Either way, here is the video of Karl talking about the refs and other post game comments. Feel free to give your thoughts.

why the hell is george carl whinning about the foul calls when obviously game 4 was a one sided game with the refs giving the nugs all sorts of calls. Uhmmm do you remember Kobe getting tripped and no call?

  • FT

omfg Lakers please please please put these Thuggets away for good on friday, everyone in the world expects you not to show up and play hard and take this game so pleaseeeeee get it done and end this on friday!
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS TEAM AND HOW THEY PLAY AND ACT IN ALL OF THE GAMES AGAINST US, GET RID OF MELO, KMART, NENE, SMITH, BILLUPS, BIRDMAN, KLEIZA, JONES, AND ALL OF THE REST OF THE WU-TANG CLAN…UHMMM I MEAN NUGGETS.

LETS END THIS ALREADY AND GET BACK TO THE FINALS, NO NEED FOR GAME 7, LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO G** D****T!!!!!

  • LifeLongLakerFan

I call B.S. and those are my thoughts.

  • MagicLaker

Karl is just one big FAT sore loser! He has absolutely nothing to complain about. I’ll give him the last foul called on Nene. Gasol just lost his footing and fell down. Otherwise, the game, as usual, was poorly officiated on both ends and neither team gained a real advantage from it.

I’d like to say Lakers in 6, but I haven’t seen them put to solid games together since games 2 & 3 against Houston.

    Let’s go Lakers!!

  • nick

I agree with some of these other comments. First we didn’t get any calls in game 4 and second we need to beat this Denver team in game 6 and really put this team away. I also think Shannon Brown needs more minutes, I like this kids energy!

  • lakerfan81

I actually thought this was the most well reffed game of the series. They allowed a lot of contact in the paint, but they were pretty consistent all game in allowing said contact by both teams. Yeah there were some missed calls, but there is always going to be missed calls. The key is to be consistent and not change how the game is called every quarter like they did in the last game.

  • Michael_23

Coach Karl, you’re a great guy and coach, but don’t stoop down to your players blaming the refs for the lost.

The refs sometimes even don’t show up during Laker plays. So don’t say anything that wont change the outcome except another fine handed down to u.

  • dipset687

haha i find this really funny. after game 4 when phil complained about the refereeing, karl said that phil was good at making excuses and he was just going through loser’s lament. what the hell is karl going through after game 5???? he is such a two-faced sore loser. i thought this was the best officiated game of the playoffs so far. no bogus calls, no random technicals, and good because they allowed the players to just play the game. i can’t wait to see what karl says after the lakers win game 6

  • xtro

how did the lake show get the benefit of the referee’s whistle when ‘melo shot more free throws than kobe? what a cop-out!!!!

  • AL the Laker Fan you should meet.

Mr.Karl the writing is on the wall this series is over game 6 in Denver we aint coming back to LA with Denver …were celebrating on Denver’s home court we deserve it..The Nuggets dug there own grave with there behavior after game 4.

    LOL!

Whether it is valid or not, the NBA now OFFICIALLY has a referee problem.

It has become a constant issue (again, valid or not) in the coverage of every series with numerous references from professional writers, bloggers, and posters alike that “the fix is in”.

Stern better pull his head out of his *ss and address this perception issue.

I know this is a hard game to call, with every play having the complexity of calling holding and pass interference in football, but fair or not, Stern has to deal with it or see an increasingly cynical fan base and media walk away from the game.

A start would be to get rid of all the “superstar” refs like Joey Crawford and Bennett Salvatore, they bring way too much ego to the game.

The refs should hardly be noticed, if they are doing their job right.

  • lafanfromindiana

Him blaming the refs is no different than all the crybabies that whine about the refs in tln chatbox everytime we are down in a game. Him blaming the refs is no different than Phil Jackson. Quit being so hypocritical!

  • http://www.nicklachey.us Jackenton

I don’t know what he’s complaining about but Lakers didn’t get the calls they deserved last night either. In fact, there were so many times that Anthony didn’t get fouled and he got the foul call. Kobe on the other hand got knocked around a number of times but no call.

  • SomeonreadthistoLAkers

NBA will come back and HAMMER you down Karl, get ready for a $25000 fine for questioning the dictator-like NBA league.

George is a whiner and a loser.
The officiating has been horrible through all the games on this playoffs, so yeah George, welcome to the club.

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS)

This series is going 7: that Sunday Game 7 in Primetime (8:30 EST) is WAY too valuable for the NBA and Disney (ABC) to miss out on.

I predict Bennett Salvatore will be one of the refs on Friday (he is super “friendly” to the home team.

Lakers will win Game 7 wearing their Whites.

  • WifelovesLuke

Benefit of the whistles? How about the 11 shots in a row that your players missed towards the end of the game. Thay may have had something to do with the loss. How about LO feeling better from his back problems. That may have had something to do with the loss. Benefit of the whistles? Dude, please! Anthony went to the line more than Kobe and as a team we only shot 5 more free throws than the Thuggets. STFU, Karl!

  • as1084

what karl has to realize is that the home team will ALWAYS have an advantage with the whistles…the nuggets had the advantage in game 4 while the lakers had the advantage in game 5. and my guess would be the nuggets will have the advantage in game 6. am i saying its fair??? no! but thats the way the NBA is running right now. thats why u gotta fight for homecourt advantage for the playoffs. pj is no dummy when he wanted the lakers to get homecourt for this year’s playoffs. the crowd and refs give the home team the advantage. going into next season, karl will have his time fight for the best record in the league or even the western conference for that very reason.

  • ilikebasketball

george karl has lost all my respect.
the last nene call was bogus. totally. but that’s one call.
he said 3 or 4 of them were non-existant????

how can he complain after a no call for tripping and a push in the back in two games! after bynums Flagrant was rescinded!!!??? how can he complain???!!

and what’st his “i’m not as philosophical as phil jackson”

hahahhahah…. does that mean he’s dumber.

can we please put that on shirts or posters and take them to denver.

    Denver ButtNuggets

  • David

Come on LAKER NATION tell me you didn’t see melo close line Kobe? George Karl has no heart doesn’t believe in his Thugs! He is the apprentice of panic!!

  • LakersFirst

George Karl “whahh, they got the benefits of the calls, whah”.

Hey George Karl, you leprechaun looking freak, your team shot 49 free throw attempts in Game 4. IT ALL EVENS OUT!!!

  • skew

    kobe > lebron.

  • L.A. All The Way

Oh my God…so many things I could say here:

To George Karl: It’s “loser’s lament”…aren’t those YOUR words to Phil Jackson on the last game when he complained? YOU’RE A HYPOCRITE!!!

Also, didn’t Carmelo go up to the free throw line more than Kobe???

And finally, learn from what happened to Phil and keep your mouth shut! If not, get ready to pull out your wallet.

  • JohnJohn

Karl should be thanking the Lakers for even letting his looser son play for them last year. Karl you are just a b*tch. Lets see who the NBA decides will win game 6?

  • LAKERS R HOT

aite no disrespect but geaorge karl is a great coach def hall of fame…..but this is juss like yea u def hypocrite much

[Comment ID #73473 Will Be Quoted Here]

Oh yeah. If that was Melo getting hit, it would have been a flagrant 2. Even though it was a Lakers home game, Denver still had the edge on getting most of the calls. Another example is whenever Denver dives for lose ball and calls timeout, they get it (before jump ball). Every time Lakers does the same thing, the ref calls jump ball and ignores the timeout.

I’ve lost all respect for George Karl.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=684346052 Zoom Kobe II

I wish Coby Karl still played for the Lakers. Just think of the possibilities! Coby enters the game, at some point he is going to commit a foul on someone. What would George say about that? And at some point Coby is going to get fouled. What would daddy George say to that?!?

  • sketch

[Comment ID #73502 Will Be Quoted Here]

LOL… that’s funny $h!t! But knowing the whining George Karl and we all know, he’d yell at the ref and ask for a flagrant 2 on Coby and even tell Dirtay Jones to sweep the legs on Coby a la Johnny and the Karate Kid! We all know that George is a selfish SOB! He’s more interested in his legacy than the welfare of his kid! His Seattle teams never used to be dirty like the Thuggets, but he knows that this is his chance to get over on Phil and he’ll do anything to get there! The Fcuker! Fcuk him and his Thuggets!!!!!!!

    GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://getgarnett.com golakers75

mmmmmmmmmmmmm. remember when your son got cut by the lakers??? lol. u fat a s s

  • Dragon

I don’t think the ref’s gave lakers the benefit the nuggets had a poor offensive game in the 4th they couldn’t hit any thing for 5 minutes they missed 11 shots. They lost because they couldn’t make their shots not because of the ref’s that helped the lakers.

  • JACKIE JOHNSON MUST POSE FOR PLAYBOY

HMMMMM! I THOUGHT THE LAKERS GOT THE BENEFIT OF GEORGE KARL’S SHI.TTY COACHING!!!

  • kevin 0

  • Ronnie

He just said that to try and gain an edge with the whilstle at home. He doesn’t actually believe that whistles decide games, which they do, but no coach actually believes that. Picture it this way, ratings and sponsors/money are the most important things for the NBA, in order to get ratings they push series to six and seven games respectfully. This will go 7 for certain, there is no way the NBA would allow the cash machine known as game 7 get away from their pockets. The sad part is, this is the only sport that gets away with it. Baseball cant, calls are too obvious….hockey cant, nobody cares. In this sport, the refs can call anything they like….contact or no contact.
