Pau Gasol's First Playoff Game in the Purple and Gold

Posted Image

Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets April 10th 2008

Points: 36
Rebounds: 16
Assists: 8

Tensions and Expectations were high as the Lakers played their 1st playoff game as the Number 1 seed since their magical championship run from 99-02. After a controversial start to the season with Kobe wanting out of Los Angeles, the season was looking nothing more for a rebuilding year. The season started off good, then bad with the injury to Andrew Bynum, and if Mitch Kupchak did not make a move the Lakers seemed ready for nothing more then an 8th seed. But then comes on February 1st, one of the greatest days in Lakernation.....

Pau Gasol had been traded to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Marc Gasol, and 2 future picks. Pau had an immediate impact on the Lakers, propelling them to the number 1 seed in the Western Conference. Their first victims happened to be the Denver "No Defense" Nuggets.

The Nuggets, led by Iverson and Anthony (DUI!!!) And with much help by Linus Keliza(who finished with 23 points) kept pace with the Lakers in the 1st half, only down by 2 points. The Nuggets came out running and scored 56 points in the half to the Lakers 58, the Nuggets were hanging in there, and looked like they were ready to strike. But in the 3rd quarter, the Spaniard took control.....

Pau was 14 out of 20 from the field, and was a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line. He even 8 assists, 3 blocks, and had a total of 36 points in the game. Pau was only out of the game for 4 minutes as the Lakers took down the Nuggets 128 - 114, and ended up sweeping the Denver Nuggets

SI! SI! ME GUSTA!!!!

A Great day in Lakersnation, for years to come.

Great memories. I remember hearing the news in a phone call and not believing that we could somehow get Pau for Kwame...

And this game is the only playoff game I've been to... oh man. D-U-I! D-U-I! D-U-I!

I was at school when I heard the news. It was around lunchtime and one of my friends came up to me and was screaming "WE TRADED KWAME!" and I was like, for who? When he replied Pau Gasol, I knew for sure he was bsing it. Along the way home, I turned up AM570 and the Loose Cannons were talking about it and I was like "Holy [expletive]! We got rid of Kwa-may! And we got Pau Gasol!" :omg:

Pau killed Denver that game.. Too bad Kobe and Pau were both close to getting triple double games against Denver but didn't =[.
Mike Breen: Walton can tip it. Bryant with the save.
Hubie Brown: Oh you gotta get a shot here
Mike Breen: Final Seconds.. Bryant for the win, BANG!
