The Celtics seemed to accept P.J. Brown's decision to retire from the NBA, but they are leaving open the possibility of a return.

"If that's his decision, I support it," Kevin Garnett said after practice Thursday. "Somewhere down the line, if he changes his mind, I'm pretty sure the door is open for him.

"There only one P.J. Brown and if you look it up in the Yellow Pages, he wouldn't be as tall or he wouldn't be as smart basketball-wise."

Coach Doc Rivers was not surprised by Brown's announcement.

"He told us that," Rivers said. "But we don't believe him, I'm hard-headed, I've heard that before.

"I think it's official but I'm still going to check. I'm good at making people change their minds -- I got my wife to marry me."

Celts are panicking now. Even if he un-retires, Lakers should stay put. They have the personnel to beat any team. The media, Lakers fans, are all wanting some sort of trade but we have the best team in the NBA. If anything... we should get PJ Brown just to c-block.

One of the biggest reasons I bought the Lakers was to beat the Celtics …..you just got it into your soul that you couldn't stand the Celtics anymore

They are in desperate need of front court help - and this shows just how desperate.

Are they going to admit the Lakers' front line exposed them now - or will they continue to say that game had no effect on them?

I hope they get both Brown and Marbury. Desperation never leads to good things.

February Calendar for Celtics

Sun 08 vs San Antonio
Wed 11 @ New Orleans
Thu 12 @ Dallas
ALL STAR BREAK
Thu 19 @ Utah
Sun 22 @ Phoenix
Sun 23 @ Denver

We'll see how desperate they are around February. That's a tough road trip, right before the trading deadline.

There's at least 2 losses on that trip for them.

Any team with more than one big man will give them a run.

Phoenix and San Antonio will give them a rough time and I wouldn't be surprised if Denver makes them earn it too.
