The italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport gives this award to the best European basketball player since 30 years ago.
Pau won this award this year, beating Rudy Fernandez and Hidayet Turkoglu, in 2nd and 3rd place.
Before Pau, the winner in 2007 was Tony Parker. And before that, Dirk Nowitzki won the award 5 consecutive times.

I haven´t found the new in english, is only in spanish and italian.
Other news is that Pau is failing in the nominations for All-Star (wtf) and that he only needs 20 points to reach the 10.000 in NBA.
