Nearly one year since Stephon Marbury last played in a regular-season game, signals are getting stronger that the New York Knicks' outcast will eventually make his comeback with the Boston Celtics.

That still depends largely on Marbury's ability to negotiate his release from the Knicks after weeks of fruitless and oft-contentious buyout talks, but sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com this week that Boston is Marbury's preferred destination if he manages to become a free agent and that the Celtics are indeed hopeful of signing him.

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge did not immediately respond to a request for comment on a New Year's Day holiday for the entire league and has generally refused to address the possibility of signing Marbury. Yet it's believed that the Celtics' concerns about their depth, after losing James Posey and P.J. Brown from last season's title team, have swelled noticeably since they followed up the best 29-game start in NBA history at 27-2 by losing three of the next four games on the road.

I'm not sure whether to laugh or be concerned.

Steph's ego is huge, but I don't even think he's dumb enough to not realize what a great opportunity he would have to be on a team like that and how much he would be helping their bench.

Then Boston would be the feel good story of the year once again.

I can already hear Mike Breen mentioning it 20 times during a game.

"Marbury for three.....puts it in!
And again, Stephon Marbury going from an UGLY situation in New York to being the missing piece for these defending champion Boston Celtics."

He would definitely be the scorer off the bench that they have been looking for. There's no way he'll take Rondo's starting job though.
Gooden>> Lamar Odom. Mo Williams>> Ray Allen>> Gasol. Nene= Gasol.

Pause ll

Not to go off topic, but people don't know how hard he works.

He bangs up 3 songs a day, that's why it seems like he has like a million out. For every Lil Wayne song you hear, there's probably another 50-75 you haven't heard.

Going back to Marbury, it'd be kinda funny seeing him and Sam Cassell get into it.

Recently there has been some serious talk of marbury possibly joining the celtics if he can get out of new york. Both sides are not acknowledging the idea but nor are they denying it at all. KG hasnt even opposed the idea so far even though the two have history.

What are your thoughts on what if marbury goes to boston?
BOSTON SUCKS!!!

Sure but,
Quality>>Quantity.

But hey, to each his own.

His music is of quality, people just don't understand what he's talking about.

I can't defend every line he uses, but a lot of the time people are just too lazy to capture his thought. They don't feel like thinking about what he's saying because they're so used to hearing other artists who give them the thought on a silver platter.

"Before I had a mirror, I knew who I was."

"Who can you trust? Who can you love when love kills like somebody gave cupid a gun?"

"And every time I see the sunshine I drop down and give thanks at least one time
Feelin like I'm living on front line
Feelin like every second is crunch time
I've had breakfast, will I make it to lunchtime?
And I ain't joking so don't be looking for punchlines
Will I be the next victim of a gun crime?
I don't know the answer, that's why I brought mine."

Plus his flow and delivery are both second to none. It's not just about what he says, he delivers it in a way that's entertaining while most rappers just go in the studio and say it. He makes an art out of it.

low risk high reward

its worth a gamble if the knicks buy him out and the celtics sign him up for the minimum

The Knicks may wanna think twice about sending him to an Eastern Conference team since they're gonna always have a shot at the last seed and they might have to face him in the first round

A Rondo + Marbury combination can be deadly if Marbury plays like he did in Phoenix & NJ. And if he plays like that off the bench wow that will surely help the Celtics with taking out Rondo or Allen anytime for rest

What's this got to do with Lakers? and if he's back how he was back in NJ and PHX , they are set at PG depth.

He'll be coming off the bench for sure. Just more fuel to the fire.

If he does head up to Beantown I hope he sticks to his shoot first point guard mentality and messes up their chemistry even more :dance1:

Nothing, that's why it's in NBA Talk.
