great posts nelo. That 09 joke was gold

“With iSuppli’s estimated PS3 cost at $448.73, the product retailing in the United States at around $399 and taking into account other expenses, the PS3 may be able to break even in 2009 with further hardware revisions.”

:P

I do think that these estimates are probably off though. Sony is going to be buying such a large quantity that they are going to be getting a LARGE discount from the manufacturers of the materials, along with the press those companies are getting.

Still curious as the Sony's business model for the PS3 though.

I absolutely love my 360. It offers basically all that the PS3 offers (no blu-ray obviously) but it's cheaper and imo, the entire look and feel of it are better. I had a Wii but sold it. I'll admit it was fun at times but I prefer to sit with a normal controller and do my thing. I think Wii is one of those systems you have to be in the mood for, and I was rarely in the mood to play the way the Wii requires. It's aimed more at kids while 360 and the PS3 appeal more to older gamers. The good thing about the Wii is that it's cheaper. The bad thing is in a lot of places it's hard to find. I remember having to wake up at like 6 am to hit up Target b/c they had just got around 20 of them and I was like 3rd in line to get one. That's the good thing when reselling, it's in high demand.

Yeah without Blu-Ray I think the PS3 would truly tank. The games are gorgeous, its just so cost prohibitive. For such a smart company, you'd think Sony would dump that price to about $250. I guarantee their sales of both the PS3 unit and Blu-Ray software would soar. They really have slipped on game selection and support for what the machine can do. Its a disappointment and I think Sony's lackluster support of it kind of shows that they may think the same.

It just feels like that console is one small step away from being absolutely buried.

We just got a Wii today. Its really fun, just an alternate style of games/gaming. You do have to be in a different mindset to play them, but man once you do, the thing is crazy addictive.

Can't go without my 360 and the Media Center hook-up though. There's just no console with better games, a wider/more diverse selection of media on most fronts, great online community and marketplace and more versatility overall.

^the thing is they cant drop the price since theyre losing an insane amount of money as it is cuz they poured so much money into blu ray and stuff like cell

also instead of using resources on home they couldve used that time to improve psn

You're right.

I really think they just dropped the ball big time on the PS3.

I would imagine the PS4 will be first to hit the market - long before the next X-Box or Wii incarnation.

So at this point right now, not considering anything that might happen in the future, would it be better to get a PS3 or a 360?

I think it's VERY important to remember that although the Xbox 360 sells better in America, the PS3 SMASHES the 360 in sales in Europe and Asia.

I highly doubt that, in fact it will probably be the opposite.

I have this Blu-Ray Player that has these weird letters on it. I think they were like P-L-A-Y-S-T-A-T-I-O-N-3 or something like that. Does that spell something out in Japanese? Whatever. It's a solid Blu ray player.
