We should have a better chance...

the Lakers' D has improved (Boston is still way better, but offensively they are way worse)
Bynum is back (rebounding should be improved by now)
Ariza is healthy
our bench production is far superior
even Slalom has improved
Luke Walton = rotting on the bench (the most important factor)
no Posey, Cassell, or PJ Brown to save their underperforming superstars *cough* KG *cough*

Just feed the bigs and we win...

No, I don't believe we can beat the Celtics right now, and I don't believe we would beat them over finals series RIGHT NOW. We lack the mental strength, grit and determination to beat the Celtics. The Celtics are hard nose and relentless, we aren't. If we played the Celtics in the Finals right now, I think we'd lose 4-2. Maybe 4-3 if we are lucky. Talent wise we are 4-2 over them, mental wise they are 4-0 over us. Maybe trading LO for someone with more substance and MENTAL STRENGTH than skill would be a wise thing right now.

We will destroy them, we´re stronger than ever (offensively and defensively) and they are weaker than last year (no MVP Posey, no PJ Brown) and the most important thing: we are hungrier than ever!

Arguably the greatest franchise ever

the celtics arent as great as most of you think, they blow leads, and still end up winning, they have two losses, but they are on a good strecth right now, just like the CAVS, so to answer the question
WE CAN BEAT THEM, but will we, I think so...because our frontline is better equipped to match with thiers this year, no griity player like posey for them, the addition of Ariza, and our new defensive schemes,
Watch how many turnovers we get between house and rondo, but I cant wait 4 this 1
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

So lets ask this question... If the celdics were to beat us on Xmas, then how are we gonna improve for a showdown in the finals with them?

Mike Breen: Walton can tip it. Bryant with the save.
Hubie Brown: Oh you gotta get a shot here

Personally, I don't want us to peak Dec 25th. I would hope we peak around playoff time. That said, I want us to kick some Celtic butt on Christmas!!

The only butt we will be kicking is our own. Fact of the matter is, we kill OURSELVES off with a lack of mental strength. We ALLOW other teams back in the game. The best chance we have, is the leaders on the team getting tough and setting an example for the others.

I am glad someone agrees with me and Lakers mental toughness.

^ i swear , base and darth havent watched much b-ball, the Shaq and Kobe teams lost leads, teams got back in the game when our bench was on the floor, as is the case with most teams. I guess you guys are too much into the Lakers, like you expect perfection, we had a strecth of games where we looked unbeatable (7-0) and you guys thought it would always be like that
We are a top 3 team in the league and we are younger than the other 2 in that discussion, we have the best in the world(mr. clutch) and we have the zen master
this year has nothing to do with last year, its basically a different team, with bynum and ariza.
Stop over reacting to people having late runs on us, b/c thats what happens, we were one 8 footer away from winning the indiana game, and the flaws are correctable, but that was 3 games in 4 nights with a lot of traveling
I really need someone else to chime in with me so these knuckleheads can learn a lesson about the NBA

yes, they are mentally tough, for example people dont say the spurs arent mentally tough, but they let us win a playoff game, last year down by 20, so if they arent tough, then we arent tough.
But honestly, the Lakers are tough
The kobe saga last year , could have had the Lakers playin like Chi-town, but they played great b-ball last year, even in Pau and Bynum's absence.

Look, good teams are BUILT on two things:

1. Talent.
2. Mental Strength.

If you get the perfect mix of the two, then you'll have a great team. At the moment, we are 90% talent, 10% mental strength. This means that we out do most teams talent wise (Spurs). But when it comes to real tough opponenets like the Celtics and Pistons, we can't beat them.

They can improve on mental toughness as they age, but other than time, they are tough enough. And I prefer my mental toughness with a touch of class thrown in, unlike the Celts, who act like thugs on the court.
