I am not going to put a poll because im sure about 90% of you will say yes BUT...

In All Honesty do you think we can beat the Celtics right now (as in on Christmas Day - 3 weeks)?

I think our offense has improved much since last year with bynum adding in about 12-20 pts extra and farmar and ariza both stepping up averaging around 10 points a game with some steals.

And our defense has improved since last year, but I still think we are not up to par with the celtics defensive intensity.

What are some of the key differences between now and last year?

Please post all thoughts...

I will answer this after the 4 game road trip just before that game.

We need to improve our defense before that game, but KG and Perkins will have their work cut out for them going again Gasol and Bynum. I think we can beat them but they will need to play a lot better then the last few games.

If we can beat them, that win could potentially give the Lakers the confidence to destroy every other team the rest of the way.

if we learn to maintain leads and build a championship killer instinct then yes. If not we will still win but not by as much :P

Phil has to learn how to keep the foot on the petal (IDK if you are watching the Louisville Vs., Rutgers game, but Rutgers were leading by 42-0 with 2 minutes left and the drove for another TD). Lakers should just keep the foot on the petal like Celtics did to the Lakers in game 6. Lakers also need to play 100% every game instead of playing down to their opponent.

I'm not sure yet honestly...We need to really have our defense down, which i'm not sure if it is yet from watching some recent games. Hopefully dribble pen. (and subsequent kickouts for 3's) can be eliminated. We need to take care of the ball and not give it away and take good, high percentage shots, which we did not do in the finals. We need to stop or at least contain their 3-point threat from Ray Allen, Eddie House, and Paul Pierce, because they get tons of points this way in general. The Boston Celtics are looking pretty damn good right now, so a win (especially a blowout) would make a big statement.

Hard to say. We tend to play down to our competition. I'd like to say facing the Celtics we'd be completely focused but you never know.

something I've noticed is that we defend horribly from the 3 pointer, notice how certain pg's and sg's have career games against us and we just overall get too many 3 pointers thrown at us and i've noticed a lot of the time they are left wide open.

If we play defense the way we have been the past few games, then no def not.

But, if we play defense like we were at the beginning of the season, then yes def.

All comes down to defense =]

Not at the moment, no. Even if we played like we did at the beginning of the year the Celts would give us fits with their strength and physicality. If we don't back down and play the full 48 then we have a chance.

If we played today, we would lose.

Bynum faced the Celtics twice last year, and was punked both times.

Kobe didn't shoot well against the Celtics, especially in the 2 regular season games.

I really wish this game was in Boston, and that we played them at home later. That way, if we lost, we'd have a better excuse.

Well Posey isn't in Boston anymore, so Kobe should have a better time.

For starts, I'd say we need another defense scheme....so Kurt got his hands tied for now...cos the early defense scheme is readily being broken down by teams, shown recently. PG penetration may just be the key to breaking us down...you guys want rondo to have a triple double against us? Definitely not.

So I'm looking for Lakers and Kurt to devise something changing and new before Xmas. Also to solidify our defense....really hoping for that.

i think we can beat them.. i mean during the finals we were up on them with a 20 pt lead a couple of times, even tho we lost... now we have an even more improved offense... and an improved defense... if you guys rmemeber how impactful ariza was in his limited minutes vs the celts in the finals.. and that was coming off an injury.. plus we have a bigger bynum.. (hopefully he can get really physical with perkins.. and maybe even get a tech .. or a flagrant on him lol, i think he needs that)

as far as bostons perspective goes... rondo just had a triple double.. and guards have been penetrating us to hell.. so rondo might have a field day.. we so need a good defensive performance from our guards... i must admit, boston still a big scary

I think we can win this. Phil Jackson has to stop taking out people who are on fire, like when Vladi hit 11 points for the Lakers in the 1st quarter. Uhh.. after that I don't think Vladi scored after that.

Our defense has to be consistent, we need better perimeter defense. Bynum will probably change things, but with also Vujacic kind of struggling to find his rhythm after his injury, that is also pretty hurtful.

The Celtics play a consistent game, playing good game the whole game.

The Lakers are unconsistent, they go on spurts then they go on losing spurts. we need to be more CONSISTENT.
