I've noticed a decrease in intensity from Kobe. It's as if he's not giving his all.

And yet I believe he's doing this purposely to conserve energy for the finales.

And the funny thing is, he's still putting up amazing numbers.

25 pts, 5 reb, 4 assists, and shooting 48% from the field.

I'm actually glad Kobe seems to be pacing himself really well this year.

I think he is playing great this year, like always.

But if he has slowed down at all, which I don't really think he has, I don't think he would be doing it to "conserve energy". Kobe is the kind of guy that comes out and plays with his all every night, because he loves the game and he wants to win.

He's not the kind to hold back at all for anything. Also I don't think he is taking getting to the Finals for granted, he knows that he has to work hard to get back there, and that anything can happen in this game.

i disagree, in an interview earlier this year, when Kobe was asked about getting tired Post-Olympics, and Post-30, he said he was nt concerned because the team is good enough for him to pick his spots
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

Kobe's shooting 48% now? Hell yea, keep it up. Kobe isn't "coasting", but he's not always 100% intensity either

if you notice a trend, Kobe kind of starts slow at the start of the season, except for 05-06 season. I think that Kobe really know that he doesn't have to score right now to win, he might some games, and most games he wont. i like it better this way cuz any player who has ever been on the all-time scoring list (Wilt, Kobe, Elgin, Alex English etc.) has never been to the finals and or never won a finals. MJ started winning championships when 1. he got a better team and 2. he stopped shooting so much.

I'm not trying to say he's lazy. I'm saying he seems to be playing very wisely, and making sure not to go nuts.

It's as if he knows he has his MVP, and now he can let his teammates do the equal amount of lifting.

Picking his spots, it's great to have the luxury of having good teammates.

He is definitely conserving energy. I don't know if I would call it "coasting," but you can see it.

Then when we need him - he has been there almost always. Even in the Indy loss he hit a big J around 50 seconds left in the 4th to put us up by 1. And games like New Orleans and Dallas... he takes over and you can see the increase in intensity. Either way, I want him to conserve as much energy as possible. The dude has played incredible amounts of hoop over the past year and a half. It's amazing.

If this is him coasting, other teams better fear him even more than usual when he's not.

“It’s obviously important to have homecourt advantage, so we look at it as a challenge to achieve that goal,” Bryant said. “Obviously we have a long way to go. It’s a great opportunity. We have quite a few home games here, so we look forward to trying to stretch this out a little bit. We have plenty more gears to go to. Plenty more. I haven’t even played in third gear yet.”

Haha, Kobe is coasting at 25/5/4. That's like saying I'm coasting down the highway at 110 MPH.

But it does make sense when Kobe would be compared to that Lambo I'm coasting in.

I feel bad for the teams that piss him off.

February AND March...please kick into 3rd gear and shift to 4th when you can. Those 2 are one hell of road games to play in.

^He's actually 32-5-4 ever since he switched to ZK4.

I'd be mad if this was a few weeks ago when we were playing poorly, but he's playing well right now so I have no complaints. I'll believe this "gear" thing when I see it though. But for now as long as he continues playing in whatever gear he is currently in, I can patiently wait for whatever future gear he will go into.

I hope he is coasting. The guy needed a break in the summer and never got one. I would like to see his minutes get to close to 30 a game to prepare him for the PO's. Lets hope the Boston big 3 play in the high 30's.
