yea, some clubs are either 18+ or they have a designated night of the week for 18+

i don't believe they serve alcohol at 18+ clubs though...some might, but i'm not sure

Bars are generally 21 and up. Clubs where alcohol are served are usually 21 and up, but some have 18 and up nights where they serve no alcohol, or you get a wristband or some sort of identification to let the bartender know you are 21.

Your friends are going to a dance kind of bar where they mark you if you're under 21.

It was the same way in the 80s, but if you're going to just a straight up bar, most will not let you in whatsoever unless you're 21. They don't go through the hassle of marking everyone (usually on their hand or wrist) that is under 21.

Just the way it is.
