Pau's a very underrated defender, critics give him the label soft but look at the stats of the opposing forward's numbers against him.

LaMarcus Aldrigde is a career 48% shooter
4-12 from the fg = 33%

Luis Scola is a career 50% shooter
3-9 from the fg =33%

Dirk Nowitzki is a career 44% shooter
5-17 from the fg = 29%

David West is a career 49% shooter
9-19 from the fg = 47%

Amare Stoudimire is a career 56% shooter
9-21 from the fg = 42%

That's a combined 30 for 75= 40% fg

His skill level is so high with his great passing skills 3.7apg and his accurate shooting 52% that his individual defense credibility gets lost.

Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

Garnett has the same length as him but only shot 38%, so it's more than that. Pau has great foot speed and great awareness on D.

Yes he is, they leave him one on one. They hardly double team whoever Gasol is guarding. He does a good job denying post position and forcing opponents to bad shots.

It's easy to score you just have to work on your stroke, but I still can't shoot

Pau has been very good this year and his one on one defense has definitely improved...he has the "Tim Duncan" mindset...he doesn't wanna block shots. As long as he contests the shot and the opponent misses it, he has done his job

I remember Pau just shut down Dirk all game long and 2 of Dirk's makes were lucky shots. Now thats great defense.

pau is one of the best one on one defenders against finesse PFs

pau's defense was largely criticized because he was defending centers much more physical but against PFs where he wont get beat up seen as 95% of PFs are finesse even KG he can shut them down

How does this show he has defensive skills all this is ALL offensive numbers...

I say when we play Boston we should play mix up the match ups time to time..

I personally believe Pau can school Perkins in all parts on the game

and Drew Height and Athleticism will out do KG.

So Phil if you are out there Christmas day!! try it out!!

Ok so what he holds opponents to doesn't indicate how well his defense was against them. Please think before you post.

There really isn't any back to the basket PF's in the game now. Bosh, Boozer and most the guys i posted all depend more on there jumpshot and score off pick and rolls. Gasol has defended them well though.

yeah, Gasol is a great 4 defender. There are strong back to the basket 5s though, and that's why its vital that Andrew defend those centers well. Based on the Suns game, where Shaq basically had his way with Drew, he's got a lot to work on. His offball defense is great but 1-on-1 is what he needs to work on.

I'm also thinking of Kendrick Perkins, who can be a feisty SOB offensively and defensively. Andrew needs to learn how to be a tougher defender, and shut guys like Perkins up. I don't see too much 1-on-1 toughness from Drew yet.
