Paul Pierce for MVP?
Posted Image
I don't know how many of you caught the Boston Celtics' game against the Toronto Raptors last night, but it may have been the launch pad for Paul Pierce's MVP campaign.

NBA League Pass is a wonderful thing, making it so that if one game is a blow-out you can flip to something else and catch another good game. Several games were down to the wire last night, like the incredible show Dwyane Wade put on as the Miami HEAT came from behind to beat New Jersey and the Portland Trail Blazers did the same to the Orlando Magic. I had long since tuned out the Raptors and Celtics, as Toronto was up by a significant margin. Later, as I flipped through the game, I noticed it was getting closer . . .and then the Paul Pierce show began.

Three after three from Pierce, driving plays, dishing to an open teammate for a three . . .it was something to see. Pierce scored 36 points and fueled a 35-22 fourth quarter run as Boston came out on top 94-87. Right now this looks like a two-man race between Kobe Bryant and Pierce.

Update from ESPN MVP Race

Posted Image 1. Kobe Bryant, Lakers. My buddy Marc Stein handles the ESPN.com Power Rankings, but the undefeated Lakers look like the top team to me. Kobe's stats don't jump off the screen like they used to, but that doesn't change his importance.

Posted Image10. Paul Pierce, Celtics. KG gets credit for being Boston's emotional and defensive leader, but after the C's win on Monday against the Raptors, there is no way to deny Pierce's value -- 22 of his game-high 36 points came in the fourth quarter.

If Lakers get 1st seed in the West and do good then Kobe will win MVP....if Lakers get 3rd seed and do fair but Kobe goes all out......30/6/6....then he will still win it

No one gave Kobe credit when he had a great 4th because it seems we are immune to it; as is the media. Thus, they do not credit him when he does amazing stuff like they do with other players.

However, 22 points in any 4th quarter comeback is amazing. Thing is, Lakers look unstoppable in a season where Kobe may be doing the least, yet, still playing the best.

Kobe is MVP right now, b-cuz he is the conducter to this track. Without him, we dont have a go-to guy that is proven. MVp for 24 as of now...Pierce gets some consideration
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

How can you be the NBA's MVP when you aren't even the MVP on your own team?

If Paul Pierce gets the MVP, then the NBA will officially be corrupt. There's no way that Paul Pierce should get an MVP, he's just not THAT good.

Because that was one of the unsaid conditions of the MVP, and it was best exemplified in the years of Dirk and Nash. Best player on one of the best teams. Now these folks realize that. Laughing at them in a condescending manner is uncalled for, especially if you have no idea if these are the same people who were "whining and moaning" years ago.

Yeah I don't think that you absolutely have to be on the best team, but I do agree that you have to be among the top teams in the league.

I don't believe in ESPN rankings for MVP because I do believe it is Kobe vs The Truth starting from here to end of the season. I want a true Laker Vs Celtics rivalry. Like Magic & Bird had going against eatch other for MVP's. It's been a while since we had a Laker & a Celtic consider to be MVP. And trust me this will do wonder for the NBA. If they if it does indeed become a tight race between Kobe & Pierce it will go down as one of the biggest MVP race to ever go down. But we all know  will be :pau:
