I was wondering which wing defender they would pick up to help save LeBrons energy against the great perimeter players in this league. Seeing as Kyrie and Dion are minus defenders they're going to need help on the 1's and 2's as well. LeBron might be able to preserve his energy on the offensive end now that he has these weapons around him but he can't take defense off with this group like when he tailed off last year. Marion is still a good addition for that reason

Marion is 36 and we view him as a great bench/ role player at this point in his career.

Kobe is 36 and we view him as the center of our team.

Not saying their skill sets were/ are anywhere near the same, just interesting how we see them so differently at the same age.

Kinda of a reach for Marion bro lol.  I do believe that Duncan would be a better person to compare too.  He's more viewed as a leader and a part of the puzzle rather than the center.

Agreed.  Duncan is a better analogy.  He is a very important part of a c-ship caliber roster but certainly not the center of it anymore.  Averaged less that 30 MPG last year.  I shudder to think where we will be of Kobe a similar number of minutes.

The thing is Kobe doesn't have the appropriate supporting cast nor the coaching stability to play such a reduced role. I have to admit Kobe himself has a lot to do with it because his confidence is his biggest strength and weakness but for comparison Timmy hasn't played more than 34 mins since his second chip (03).

It would depend on the effectiveness of Young as a 6th man, how good Jeremy Lin plays, and how long it takes Randle to develop in terms of Kobe's role.

The Lakers are full of guys that excel in a supporting cast.  What they need is another 'initiative taker' that is starter quality next to Kobe and they need the young talent in Randle to develop as well as Kobe to remain healthy for all that to happen.

But Kobe's surrounded by a supporting cast, the question is who is the guy that can step up and be more than that (along with Randle).
