That goal by Portugal has got to be the most gut wrenching tie in sports history...

But what are some of the other gut wrenching moments in sports history?

Of course, ray Allen's 3 pointer in game 6 is on that list...

But what are some other ones ?
For example, I don't think the lillard 3 pointer at the buzzer qualifies as gut wrenching enough... The stage wasn't big enough...
With the ray allen shot, a title was on the line... Mere seconds from winning the title, to defeat...
Detroit losing its lotto pick, gut wrenching, but not like this...
I remember a golfer employing on the 18th hole at a major, and losing in the first playoff hole... But the tragedy of one man can't compare to a gut shot to 330 million people...

Team usa was seconds from setting all kind of firsts and accomplishments . And boom. Gut wrenching goal allowed...

I'm not even sure if ray Allen's 3 is even close to that goal thou...
That was seriously the most gut wrenching moment in sports i think I have ever experienced... (Kobe rupturing an Achilles was gut wrenching, but not in the same way)

What are some of the other most brutal endingS to a sports game?
Keep in mind, most importantly it has to be significant, like an own goal in an exibition friendly in overtime is gut wrenching, but really has no significance..

This game meant more than any other soccer game in team usa history... Now, they go toe to toe with the Germans.

I hope the Americans are hunger and go for the win vs Germany, don't play to tie!!!! Even in this game, I wanted usa to continue to attack, rather than run to the corners and kill time...

What are some of the other most gut wrenching moments in sports history?

Let's lay it out... Maybe assign a point system
That Portugal goal in 90+5' was a 10/10 in the gut wench scale...
Ray Allen's 3 used to be a 10/10, but is now lowered to a 9/10

The way Ghana lost to Uruguay in 2010 in the World Cup has to be up there. Suarez with the blatant hand ball, Ghana gets the penalty kick and misses, and then loses in the shootout. And they were the last African nation alive at that time. Makes it doubly worse when Suarez cheats and pretty much gets away with it.

lakers dropping that 24 point lead to the celtics in the 2008 finals...

that's probably as bad as i've felt physically and mentally after anything that's happened in sports

2004 finals against pistons was pretty [expletive]ty...

and was it 2006 when we went up 3-1 against suns and lost the series...that wasn't as bad because we weren't supposed to win that series, but painful nonetheless...

Angels losing a one game playoff to Seattle in the 90's
Rice with the fumble, Owens with the catch
4-26th
Letting Terrell Davis run wild with a migraine in the Super Bowl
Kings just beating the Blackhawks could be mentioned, I wasn't mad. Hawks fans still obsess about that 3rd period. I was over it the second the puck crossed that line.

Also has to be mentioned is Worthy's pass that got intercepted in the 1984 Finals I think? The Lakers lost that game and ended up losing in 7. That's definitely one the Lakers should have had over the Celtics. Magic would have had 6 rings and Kareem would have had 7. Imagine that.

The Aaron 'freaking' Boone home run was bad for Red Sox fans

I remember the 1998? NFC championship game...
Gary Anderson had not missed a fg or xp the entire season

The 15-1 Vikings were on the way to the Super Bowl, after a monster season from rookie randy moss!

And. All thy needed was a short 30 something yard fg from their kicker, who hadn't missed all year....
The kick is up!!! And it's goes left!!!
Vikings lose and falcons go to the Super Bowl!!
I remember sitting in a resturant in Maracaibo with my dad watching (randy moss led our fantasy football team to a title. And big money!!!) and over the season, we adopted the vikes as our team.

That was brutal

Also, i remember chris webber calling a time out vs UNC. When he didn't have a timeout... That was brutal.

For Kings fans, it is Horry's three pointer.

But as a Lakers fan...nothing stung me more than the Spurs sweeping us in the final game at the Forum...

That was the most heartbreaking..and them watching them gloat after it. Nothing was better than sweeping them 2 years later. But that one hurt the most to me personally.

When the Celtics beat us I didn't cry, I just said of Garnett "I hope he enjoys his one and only championship."

Losing to detroit because of all our injuries in 89 was upsetting for my dad but I was too young, I was upset cause he was upset.

I was an Angels and Yankees fan but the Yankee fan in me hurts a lot when I look back on the Angels beating them on their way to the world series. And Jeter removing his hat and walking through the duggout saddened. The Yankee fan in me hurt like no tomorrow but the Angels fan in me that predicted they'd win it all that year was overjoyed.

In terms of regular season... The warriors beating us...

The game in the 2nd year of our three-peat and Kobe was trying to single handedly beat the warriors by himself. And almost did. But that game hurt cause it was the first time I ever felt like the wrong team won. Like Kobe's effort was almost wasted. That's how it felt anyway and that one stings me to this day.

So much so I told myself if I ever made it pro the warriors was a team on my hit list. But a back injury from a simple game of flag football put an end to those plans.

I don't think there has been a more gut wrenching loss for the purple and gold since maybe our 84 finals against the same damn celtics. 2004 was tough but it was a weird drama filled season all the way through and it wasn't just one win or loss that cost us, we just got our ass beat. In terms of looking back at history and nothing changing after obv lol the Lakers would have supplanted the green guys in total championships and there would be no argument as to whose number one. Phil would have 4 diff three peats with 3 different core players. Kobe would have 6, been 2-0 against the celtics and 3 finals MVP's while being 2-0 against the celtics. Just a complete change of history but alas lol
