LaMarcus Aldridge won't sign an extension in this off-season
w640xh480_REU_2026987.jpg?ts=1400180391
He wants to become a free-agent at the end of 2014-2015 season

Portland Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge reportedly wanted a trade out of Portland over the summer.

Come January, he was talking about a contract extension with the team.
With the season, and a breakthrough playoffs, now behind him, and a year and $16,006,000 remaining on his contract, Aldridge isn't expected to pursue the extension route any longer.

This from ESPN's Marc Stein:

Aldridge wants to be a Blazer. He's made that pretty clear.

But his last deal wasn't quite a max deal, which limits the size of the extension he can receive. So Portland might be forced to wait until after Aldridge plays out the final season of his contract at just over $16 million and hits free agency on July 1, 2015.
Stein goes on to note that the summer of 2015 will be critical for the Blazers, as both Aldridge and Lillard will see their contracts expire, and both will surely be expecting max deals.

Aldridge averaged 23.2 points and 11.1 rebounds during the regular season, then 26.2 points and 10.6 rebounds in the postseason.

So.. Love and Aldridge are available in 2015 and Portland will likely have to pick one to give the max to.

Can't really think of a better situation for him unless he finds a way to play with LeBron or CP3

He's just doing this so he can get a better contract from the Blazers when his current one ends.

Some players just like to be courted. Who doesn't like feeling like the prettiest girl at the dance?

I see him re-signing with them.

LaMarcus Aldridge and the Portland Trail Blazers had a great run this season and a trade could be coming in the future after past rumors cropped up last year, as teams like the Chicago Bulls, LA Clippers, Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers could be interested and with reports coming out that Aldridge will not be signing a contract extension with the team, he could be traded before the NBA deadline next year.

Aldridge had been mentioned in trade rumors throughout the season for Portland, but that was before the team hit their streak of success and made it into the playoffs. That talk started to die down once Aldridge and the Blazers pushed into the top half of the west, but now things are starting to heat up again after the team lost in the playoffs. According to ESPN.com writer Marc Stein, Aldridge could be looking at free agency after next season, as he is set to make $16 million and he may rather hit the market than sign an extension with the team.

Aldridge played very well this season and if he follows things up next year with another strong performance, he could be looking at close to a max contract for his next deal. Things have changed quite a bit over the past year, as Aldridge reportedly wanted a trade last summer and teams like the Chicago Bulls and LA Clippers were interested, but that never went down and once the winter rolled along, Aldridge was talking about the possibility of a contract extension. Now that the playoffs are over and the summer free agency period is coming, Aldridge may start thinking more about his future and even if he wants to remain in Portland, his best course of action could be to hit the market.

I don't doubt Portland will offer him a max contract if he opts out.   Just depends who else is offering it.  The only way I can see him wanting to leave is if the Blazers somehow didn't do well next year or didn't make it further in the playoffs.  If that's the case there are also teams like Phoenix who I am sure will also have interest as well as the money to sign him.  Unless they sell the farm to go after Love this off-season by giving away Bledsoe and Dragic then they might be a good option as well.   The only way the Lakers fit that mold is if they somehow in a years time looked to be a piece away.

There's no doubt in my mind the teams offering Aldridge the max in 2015 will be

Lakers
Trailblazers
Dallas
Suns
Bulls
Cavs
Sixers
Magic
Knicks
Spurs

So it just depends which team looks like they are going to make a push(which would potentially be Portland unless they'd be screwed by giving Aldridge and Lillard both max's they deserve).  Under this new CBA someone would have to take a paycut between the two of them to leave room on the team for adding another piece or deepening the bench because that was their weakness this year.   So to me it all depends, on this off-season and the next off-season but the only for sure thing is that Aldridge will be a free agent in 2015 and we will be one of the teams going after him as well as going after Kevin Love.  So that's something to chew on.  There is no doubt he'll be, a target, while not as likely as Love the Lakers would have to put together something that made them more attractive than the others above beyond just the fact that they are the Lakers.  Which makes our draft pick, this draft and this off-season as well as next season that much more important as it's not just about building a championship contender it's about building a team that is a piece away and spending our 'max' money wisely. A lot can change in a year. It's just something to think about if Portland starts to look like one of those middle of the pack teams without the flexibility to make the leap to championship contender.

now to put this here as the thread wouldn't be right without one.

Oh come on. The blazers are gonna be a power house soon. Why the hell would he leave. He just wants a bigger contract and the extension isn't gonna give him that. Resigning as a FA gets him more money. Unless they end up having a horrible season and everything is going wrong (Which I still doubt would change his mind) he will resign. Blazers have a much much much brighter future than we do.

As of right now the Blazers are in the same spot that the Warriors were in last year.

Aldridge and Randolph have the best low post gms in the NBA. Only pf with a better perimeter touch than Aldridge is Love. Dude has a ridiculous skill set.
