Williams struggles weren't just because he left Sloan.

It also had to do with injuries

I don't know if Deron will ever be the same. For a while he was up there with Chris Paul, but those injuries really took a toll on him.

Hopefully those ankle operations help.

^ Both had & have valid points to a degree. Would be surprised if Kobe responds back though.

Don't think thats the case at all.  It's 2 different type of players and approaches.  If Dwill is taking a bunch of shots what is the offense going to look like?  Kobe is a scorer so him not losing confidence in trying to score is vital to the team.  D Will isn't going to get you 30 except on an extremely hot night.

Can't really agree with Kobe here. If your shot isn't falling, there really isn't a point to keep pushing it, especially when one of the other players has the hot hand (Joe Johnson). Find other ways to contribute, such as facilitating and rebounding, which he did.

I'm not excusing Deron though. The Heat usually struggle against teams with good PG's. He should have had a strong series.

Dwill doesn't need to take long range shots. He is a point guard, he can find his spots mid range, he can take close range shots. Be basically took himself out of the game and the heat didn't need to guard him because he was guarding himself.

Too win vs the heat, you need to score points and need to be top the of game, kobe is 100% about DWill losing confidence.

Not exactly.  Kobe would be more correct if he was talking about D Wade or KD but we are talking about a player that played his best ball by eating out of pick and roll.  You can't approach this conversation and say he simply lost confidence without having watched that game or some analysis on the type player D Will is/was.

DWill has a career avg of 13.5 FGA and this past year on avg 11 FGA.  So he was already approaching his avg as far as shooting that game.  BKN offense was also a mess b/c they had 0 guys that could finish around the basket well which totally kills pick and roll for them.  On top of that the Heat's blitz style was a killer vs pick and rolls and lastly he was just garbage from the field that game.

Outside of game 2 Dwill shot terribly the whole series.  Maybe he didnt have confidence the whole series maybe he did and just sucked b/c hes a fat ass thats been injured.  All Im saying its not as simple as saying he lost confidence.

Again I'd be more in line with the idea of pure confidence if KD went 0-9 and stopped shooting but not a PG.  D will eats best when others are a threat.  When Joe Johnson and PP overlap in the offense, no Brook Lopez down low and KG looks like he should be out of the league Dwill can't go hero ball on the Heat and expect not to get blown out...even though they did anyway that game

Didn't D Will say himself that he had no confidence in himself at that point?

So Kobe saying he psyched himself out is pretty on point.

Yes and no again.  That comment was right before the all star break after he was dealing with injuries.  Whether or not he had confidence or not D Will trying to find his game by jacking up shots doesn't work for him or his team.  With Kobe it does.  Him being a PG is a big reason for this.

It's clear by his play from the last couple of years that he's lost a ton of confidence in himself as a player. Ignoring injuries, which have taken their physical toll, he just doesn't have the same fire or passion he played with back in Utah. He was such a scary PG to go up against when he was on the Jazz, so dangerous all over the floor. Nowadays he's really subdued during games, like he doesn't really want to go all out and try to win it. That Bobcats game from a season back when he just busted out for 50+ points was the only noteworthy thing I remember from him in the last few years.

^ that and the game he had against the Knicks because he took it personal that "Linsanity" started with him so he dropped 38/6/4 and Lin had 21/9/7 and Carmelo had 11.  It's been downhill for Williams ever since.
