The Knicks plan is pretty much going to be waiting out this year and suffering through it and then trying to go get Rondo and Marc Gasol as they'll have cap space.

Sound familiar?

Knicks' Players Don't Like Triangle, Hope To Run Different System

Carmelo Anthony and other members of the New York Knicks do not care for the triangle offense, sources said.

The players have been ready to move on from the triangle for several weeks to another system. The Knicks feel like other teams know what they are going to run and where they're going on the court.

Phil Jackson said on Monday that the Knicks players have shown defiance to the changes he and Fisher have made in the name of "changing the culture."

"There's some resistance to discipline and order and culture change and things like that," Jackson said.

Carmelo Anthony, who is playing hurt, may eventually need surgery to fix his ailing knee. http://nydn.us/1qwq2ez

It's different when Phil ISN'T the one coaching.   And young players these days don't have the patience nor the self discipline for offenses like the triangle.

When you watch how hard it is for some to grasp the Princeton, the triangle is a simpler version but you need to be disciplined.

If that entire Knicks team is rebelling against the triangle then why should Phil have to remain there?  That's why he's there isn't it?

Jim Cleamons tried to run the triangle with the Mavericks in 1996-7.  Didn't work.

Phil + talent, is what makes the triangle go.

Power struggle imminent.

First casualty: unsure.

But Fish might be close.

Certainly before Melo and Phil are gone one way or another

Praying for 1. Kobe's Health (looks pretty good so far), 2. High Draft Pick (Randle...injured game #1.*sigh*) 3. Miracle Trade (Not yet), 4. Quality Free Agent (Boozer, kind of, Davis, nice upside!), 5. Brilliant Coaching Hire (Byron!...but the jury is out)

As long as Phil is there, the triangle stays.

Ex-Bulls star Dennis Rodman takes a shot at the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony; says he learned (the triangle) in probably 15 minutes

"You came to be the savior and all of a sudden it's like, ugh, then you went and got Derek Fisher. Really, is he coaching? Is Derek Fisher coaching? I don't get it. I don't know what's up with that team, man. You've got Carmelo [Anthony] and after that who else do you got?

"They're not running the triangle. Derek Fisher's not really coaching. I know Phil is trying to throw his input in the background but who expected this from Phil? They expected him, we're going to give you $15 million a year for the next six years and this team is - wow - they might not even make the playoffs."

“I learned that in probably 15 minutes when I was in Chicago,” the former NBA bad boy/rebound machine said Tuesday morning at an appearance in Manhattan.

“It’s not that difficult. It’s a triangle. Everybody has an opportunity to touch the ball and shoot it. It seems like it goes back to Carmelo Anthony and then everything stops. What are you going to do?”

Rodman added that "nobody wants to play together with Carmelo [Anthony], it seems like," and in Chicago it took him "probably 15 minutes" to learn the triangle offense with which the Knicks are struggling. Fisher told reporters that Rodman's comments did not impact his day.

All those off-season moves that were made were made to get the supposed "triangle" players.

But as Jackson said

Can't make a donkey read books, Phil.

And the Knicks aren't gonna respect anyone Phil brings in unless it's Phil himself coaching and he's got a good gig, a good contract and can collect his dollars without having to sit on the sideline.  If they let him go they'll have to pay him all that money anyway.

Phil pretty much said it himself when he was told by an interviewer recently that he'd be a much better coach for the Lakers.. He said "You have to have (player) talent to be that good.".

It's true.

Phil needs two superstars, or one superstar that buys in and one guy who could be a Nightwing in order to make it work.

Because it starts at the top.  If the main guy doesn't buy your offense, the rest of the team isn't going to either.  And he's got a bunch of young guys on the team that seemingly only felt the triangle was like a 'get rich quick scheme'.

Carmelo returned for the money, not for Phil and that's very apparent by the fact he's shunning everything Phil is giving him, power struggling and now just collecting his max contract for the next 5 seasons.

Like I said, the Knicks would have been better off letting Carmelo go, falling in the lottery this year and starting to rebuild.  But now they've got Carmelo for 5 years, a main piece that doesn't buy into the triangle, and is a "Nightwing" himself more so than a superstar or a Batman.  Case in point, the Knicks if they want to win anything need someone on their team better than Carmelo that would take the team from him if they want a chance at competing at all.

That isn't happening.  Not unless they landed Westbrook.  But that's 2-3 seasons away when Carmelo is 32.

It was a bad deal all around for New York and now you have Phil there for the sole purpose of the triangle and no one buying in because the Superstar isn't and is tired of feeling like he felt last year.

But he willingly walked back into that situation for the financial security so he's made his bed.

Won't be long now till Dolan steps in as this experiment continues to not work.

Keep in mind Phil had the two greatest shooting guards to ever play the game, as well as a Top 3 all time center with one of those shooting guards in order to win championships.

Carmelo is nowhere near that.

So hope they enjoy what the 'triangle' without discipline gets you in this era of basketball.

Probably frustrating for Phil, but hey, he got an awesome contract regardless.  If they cut him loose a few years early and still have to pay him the full salary it's no problems for him.

Mini shots fired from their so called rivals lol.

Nets big accomplishment tonite? By my rough math, they no longer have NBA's biggest payroll. That distinction goes to your New York Knicks!

I mean we know the Knicks suck and have a team full of bone headed players.  I think this says far more about them than Phil.  Offenses like the Triangle and Princeton don't work when you have dumb ass players in the mix that don't move the ball.  Melo included.  Hes having knee problems too.  Melo is always lowkey banged up but some of you pop tarts wanted him here.  You can tell he doesnt get respect.  Even for as much as Kobe has done in the name of hero ball no role player outside some clown like Smush ever came at him

But I think Woodson is a Clipper assistant
