It happened to my brother's about a month or two after he bought it. Not sure what he exactly did, but I think the gist is that he contacted Sony, they sent him an empty box, he shipped it to them, and then they sent him a new one. You may need proof of purchase...

Buy an xbox 360.
PS2's were infamous with the laser alignment being off. It was a relatively easy fix, if you have the jeweler size screwdrivers and aren't squeamish about taking it apart. Problem is, once the problem shows up, its a habitual adjustment you have to make, to keep them up and running. Don't know if the PS3 is the same, but I'd do a Google search and see what you come up with.

At least that's what I've read online from PS3 fanboys.

The OP is lying, only 360s get [expletive]ed up, PS3s are perfect.
At least that's what I've read online from PS3 fanboys.
Perfect my [expletive]...fanboys will always protect their own machines...=.= Hate the fanboyism that exists....plainly making things ugly.
I'm not referring to you dogg.

yea, i know i haven't heard much about any of this, i was just going off experiences of friends of mine, not a fanboy...i don't even own either system, so i can't really say, but my housemate has both...his have both been fine, but i know about 4 people with 360s that broke down. the reason people probably don't hear about the PS3s breaking down as much is because they're expensive as hell, and most people know more people that have 360s...LOL...you haven't heard anything man....I've heard loads of PS3s having disc read problems as well as this...but of course, 360's got insanely famous and smeared

You can't compare 33%+ [360] failure rate to <1% [PS3].
And yes, these are confirmed by plenty of sources. Google it.
Now, I'm not saying the PS3 is perfect, but it was built much sturdier than the 360. That is fact. Games, peripherals, online services, etc. are for another argument.

True that. I dun own a PS3 myself but I'm involved in a community that has more PS3s over Xbox360s thus that's where I get my experiences learnt, and why I'm aware of PS3's situation.
I myself haven't got a 3ROD, only disc read problems.

i haven't bought a videogame system since the PSone, but i've always had people close to me with every big system, so i never really missed out...what i am going to do though is build a new computer this month...already ordered the parts, excited that 2k9 is on PC this year too!

I know that nignog, I'm not saying 360 never gets [expletive]ed. I'm on my 3rd I think. I'm just saying I see dudes (like all over M2) saying how the PS3 never ever gets messed up and it's built perfectly and all that. You can't compare 33%+ [360] failure rate to <1% [PS3].
And yes, these are confirmed by plenty of sources. Google it.

And with the less people having PS3s, it's true with me. I know 2 people right now at UCSB who have a PS3, while like 5 have 360s and alllll of my pre-college friends have 360s.
